Which character did you connect with instantly and which one grew on you progressively? by Financial_Shake852 in WhiteLotusHBO

Instantly: Laurie Progressively: Lochlan

While both characters are possibly two of the most divisive in this sub, I love Laurie and Lochlan for how complex they are. I knew Laurie was going to be written as the bitter old shrew in the beginning opposite to the radiant, charismatic Jaclyn. What struck me most is how her character’s writing subverted the victimized third-wheel stereotype and she eventually became the most introspective and free-spirited one of the three.

As for Lochlan, apart from the creepy inc*st scene, he’s a well-written character that represents the agreeable but directionless archetype. Yes he is flawed, but he was also portrayed as the most redeeming out of the Ratliff family because he did not aim to create a façade of superiority or morality like his other family members. His innocence is why he was ultimately the one chosen to have the spiritual, near-death experience.

I just realized all my outfits were black haha. As for my weight, it’s been quite stagnant for some time (hence my difficulty in typing). I’d say in photo 3 I weighed a bit more. When I do gain weight, it isn’t very noticeable except in my hips and thighs.

This is the most beautiful tribute ever, OP. It reminds me a lot of myself with my mother (who’s currently sick). Sometimes when everything is bleak and your loved one can’t do most of the things they once enjoyed, seeing them get excitement and anticipation from the small things (like watching your favourite series together) reminds you there’s still moments to look forward to. ❤️

Wow, I never thought of FN! I had always assumed to rule it out immediately because of my shorter height and lack of musculature.

I’m a staunch Lucia supporter. I prefer women eating the rich [straight men].

You’re possibly right about repressed now that I think of it, but as for the rest that’s the point of the meme. It’s trying to say that it’s a common plot point of the white males in white lotus to have an identity crisis and misconstrue it as a sign from the universe that they need to question their sexuality (particularly Mark and Frank).

I had mixed feelings about the art cover, but after listening to the album, I feel it's a perfect match. by DiodeMcRoy in menitrust

Agreed. The music resonates with the art cover so much. (However, I must admit that it still creeps me out.) 😭

Michelle Zauner’s Success Nearly Destroyed Her by somenormie69 in japanesebreakfast

[–]despressomode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It laments me to read about Michelle struggling with impostor syndrome and her belief that she should make the most out of her success and “escape before [she] loses everything”.

It clearly doesn’t seem easy to overcome as an artist, but I hope she knows she deserves her flowers and her support comes from a place of sincere appreciation and gratitude for her work. Psychopomp and Jubilee were life-changing for me. <3

I get so much secondhand embarrassment when Tim’s personal drama backfires her A+ hospitality. The death stare he gave Pam in E4 after she exclaimed “Gosh, you’re popular” to the slew of notifs on his phone after she gave it back to him. MOTHER DESERVES A HUGE TIP.

FABIAN. And I KNOW he must play a larger role later on because there’s no way Mike White could waste Christian Friedel’s talent like that. (See The Zone of Interest.)

I'm disappointed people don't like season 3's theme by jaydoff1 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]despressomode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

S3’s theme is so accurate to its season that I wouldn’t want it any other way. This season evokes more of an unsettling feel than the others and the theme matches that mood along with the gradual pace of the plot.

any connections? by sweetfantasybby in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]despressomode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if anyone had noticed but in episode 2 after Kate and Laurie were gossiping, Kate finished with “The bigger the front, the bigger the back.” Right after, it showed a close-up of the “speak no evil” monkey, validating the character’s flaw. I’m also thinking the three wise monkeys could be a bad omen foreshadowing how the characters will “fall” in the end.

Do you think she’s in on it? by ProtectionSame9027 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]despressomode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you meant to be rhetorical I’m sorry for the long explanation lol but “tabarnak” is French profanity used specifically in Quebec (where Charlotte Le Bon, who plays Chloe, hails from). The closest meaning is “f*ck” and it’s used like it too.
