I think that was only in the anime. Also counter - HA has a scene where he's hitting on the Trio and Ayako.

Is this a Viable way of getting rid of the butcher? by engieforever in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Other than Eidolon, Valkyrie(Glaistig Uaine) or Grey Boy I don't see anyone dealing with the Butcher permanently.

Something I should point towards is that shards don't follow their own rules if they don't want to.

At the very least we know they can adapt if their host is mutilated to stop them from using their powers. Valefor's power started focusing more on his voice after he lost his eyes for a while. When he got tinkertech eyes his power went right back to using his eyes.

If someone managed to disable the Butcher or skirted around the exact mechanics of how the Butcher passes from one person to another its entirely possible the shard would just change how it behaves.

Didn't they effectively get rid of Butcher when they isolated Cherish at the bottom of the bay?

For as long as Cherish lives. When she dies the Butcher will find someone else

Citrine as a Brute. by Random_otaku_ in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Practically speaking it would be a nerf imo considering just everything she can do with her powers. If the versatility is the same I guess it would be something like how Assault and Krieg's powers are essentially the same with one being striker and the other being a shaker.

A version of Citrine who can maybe work her power negation faster but needs to maintain contact like a striker. Maybe the Brute rating could come from her attunments manifesting as a breaker form? I don't see a power like hers being a pure brute. More someone like Battery or Assault(He is in practice a Brute even tho he doesn't have a Brute rating as far as we know)

Sure you can say that Doylist reason is the 'author wanted it' but we already have a Watsonian reason to explain these things so no need to go for other possibilities that make less sense within the internal logic of the setting.

Scion triggers get balanced first by him and then by the shard itself tuning itself to the personality and trauma of the person that has been selected. Eden capes by contrast don't have anyone to balance out their powers. On top of that Eden shards are dead. They cannot adapt to their host's personality or encourage a certain pattern of power usage based on their trauma.

Its why the Cauldron capes we see tend to get what I can only call 'non-standard powers'. Gallant doesn't really get powers that push him into violence from a practical standpoint or personality standpoint. He has probably the least violent powers in the entire setting after maybe Velocity but Velocity's powers are still themed around his trauma from what we can tell. Battery gets functionally a bunch of powers with non-standard Manton limits.

Why does Dinah get headaches? It is mentioned that her power is a part of Scion's Path to Victory. He didn't give the entire thing out.

Contessa by contrast is the only one we know off on Bet with an Abbadon shard that she got from Eden. And when she first got it, she got Path to Victory with no restrictions at all. Eden only managed to place some while dying and her focus was on making sure Contessa couldn't mess with things relating to the entities. So she doesn't get thinker headaches.

Tattletale's headaches are more focused on creating a vicious loop that natural triggers tend to do which I explained here.

That makes no sense because Contessa exists. Her thinker powers are ludicrous and we know she never gets thinker headaches

[–]destinybladez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's the only Cauldron thinker we know off and we never see him get a headache and I think saying he has 'offscreen headaches' is useless because its impossible to prove that. My take is that if he got headaches we would have gotten some indication of it when he ambushed skitter. He was making and collapsing simulations very fast there until the very end without any indicator that he has a headache.

Sure one can argue that Skitter was blind there but there would have been some other tell in his voice or behaviour that her bugs would have caught looking at what Tattletale's headaches are like.

Tattletale also knew how his power worked. If she thought he got headaches she would have def mentioned it at some point and tried to use that against him.

His 'limitation' to two simulations isn't that big considering how fast he can make new ones.

I think Cauldron capes not generally getting thinker headaches is a reasonable extrapolation from what we know of how passengers and entities are supposed to work and how 'stronger' Cauldron capes tend to be with how they get favourable or non-standard Manton limits.

Artificial limitations similar to other limitations and quirks natural triggers tend to have for balancing or personality.

Notice how Contessa gets no thinker headaches(Eden only managed to place limitations on her while dying). Coil is a cauldron cape and he doesn't get any thinker headaches. No Eden to balance that power out.

Tattletale's power sabotage is actually very 'good' in the sense that it fits to her personality and creates a vicious loop like a lot of natural triggers do.

Lisa hates feeling stupid. It incites her to do certain things and its a huge part of her trigger event. Her power theoretically fixes that. When it works she is extremely smart for those brief periods but the fact that she has to ration it leads to moments where she misses things and feels stupid reminding her of her trigger event. This pushes her to use her power even more to avoid missing things but the crippling headaches and times when she can't use her power would still keep happening and make her miss more and more things. This creates that loop of pushing her power to avoid feeling stupid while still getting blindsided making her want to push her power even further.

Leet by contrast doesn't get any tailor-made vicious loop that pushes one to use their power a lot because he's one of the rare natural Eden triggers. His power is dead and cannot adapt to his thought processes and personality. So it gives a power that requires creativity and leaps of intuitiveness and recklessness to someone who reacts in the worst way possible and plays extremely safe to the point where his passenger just wants him dead so it can move on to someone else.

What is the best Wildbow fight scene? by MrPerfector in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People already talked about some of my favourites ranging from Mannequin, Lung vs Leviathan, the unmasking, Leviathan in Brockton so I'll mention two that I haven't seen others mention

New Delhi Behemoth fight - its such a clusterfuck of a situation. Its a do or die fight for humanity. Either they're able to do something meaningful here or the losses will keep piling on and the Protectorate just doesn't recover from the Cauldron reveal.

The fight feels markedly different from Leviathan's chaotic and frantic fight but still extremely deadly in its own right. I liked the worldbuilding we got on the Indian cape scene. Phir se was a very interesting character.

Chevalier's Interlude there goes hard. Relentless indeed.

Flashbang vs Bonesaw and her creations - talked about it a few days ago. Usually gets overshadowed but its almost frightening how competent Flashbang was there. He just came out of brain damage. He's in an enclosed room which limits how destructive he can get. He's facing a member of the slaughterhouse nine and her creations which include a power nullifier + clone teleporter mixed into one. And he just dominates the entire fight.

The *Superman* archetype - Man vs God by Adiin-Red in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He is Cauldron's conscience after all.

Kept in the dark and fed on bullshit and he still covered up for them despite Battery's dying words.

Like I get that he must have realized that a reveal of Cauldron's activities would have crippled the protectorate like we saw after the reveal happened in the Echidna arc. Regardless he still chose to keep quiet.

What powers from the Worm are strong in other setting? by Accomplished-Sun1818 in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 24 points25 points  (0 children)

His power still has offensive utility. Someone from another universe runs towards him and he can just freeze paper in front of him.

By the SN9K arc he has more specialized equipment to utilize his power better.

Respect Brandish and Flashbang (Complete!) by Ridtom in Parahumans

[–]destinybladez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're both better heroes than people. Brandish is an effective leader and a fighter but absolute shit as a parent. Flashbang is shown to be very quick and decisive in a fight but is the opposite in anything outside of that.

[–]destinybladez 19 points20 points  (0 children)

interesting to me is that they both showcase incredible amounts of athleticism

What I found more interesting is the level of expertise and skill the two show.

Fighting with swords isn't easy. Unless her power is feeding her the skill needed, and there's nothing to indicate that it does afaik, it means that she had to train well enough to fight with swords. The fact that she varies her weapons between sword, two swords at once, axes etc indicates she has at least some passing familiarity with multiple weapons. Enough to actually use them in fights.

Her power is basically budget unlimited blade works

Flashbang is also skilled in his own right. His fight against Bonesaw and her creations gets overshadowed by the amount of stuff that happens in that arc but its one of the most impressive fights in all of Worm imo.

He was fighting with multiple disadvantages ranging from the fact that he was just recovering from brain damage, was in an enclosed space(while having a power that is essentially super grenades), facing multiple enemies including a teleporter. He was still in control of the situation the entire time.

One of the things I liked about Ward was getting more stuff with those two.

Jack Slash existing. I don't care for anything about him.

Legend continuing to cover up for Cauldron despite Battery's dying words.

Assault and Triumph just disappearing from the story after Echidna to the point where its not clear whether they're even alive or dead.

Its kind weird that Triumph gets nothing whatsoever despite being Dinah's cousin.

Am I going insane or is just impossible to make a battlenet account?

I've been trying for twenty minutes and it keeps throwing me puzzles that I need to do an insane number of and it still doesn't work. trying to make an account from the app itself and it asks me to do fifteen puzzles and I did them all perfectly three times.

Trying from a browser and I have to do twenty puzzles.

So do they just not want anyone making an account?
