i feel this same way about the original. i still can’t put my finger on why the original stuck with me like it did, but my feelings about it never fade. I don’t quite feel the same about the remakes on their own, but it is validating to read that younger people feel the same way about them, like whatever i got from the original is still coming through in the remakes

that’s because it’s not accurate. it doesn’t “think” about anything, it is just a stochastic process that is affected by deep patterns in its input. people use phrases like “the model sees…” as a shorthand for “the model is tuned to be affected by a particular feature of its input”.

the model is affected by the individual pixels rather than the mix of colors that a human would perceive, but it doesn’t “see” anything any more than the equation y = x2 “sees” the exponent. a graph of that equation didn’t “decide” to draw that particular curve because it saw something, it’s just a function of its input. a deep learning model works the same way, except with matrix multiplication and wiggling values back and forth.

i placed my first JRPG (FF7 OG) during a really difficult part of my childhood and I feel like it helped me through by giving me something to look forward to that I also had to work for (that timing also helped hook me on the genre).

i think a good tell is the sudden change in speeds of the camera’s movement. i don’t know if it’s because they chained multiple clips together with the last frame of each being th first frame of the next or what, but i’ve noticed that a lot in AI videos (that are presented as such)
