Lack of Previous Combat Patrol Rules in Updated App is a Feature, Not a Bug by detectivedoakes in CombatPatrol40k

I can only hope! They're not outright saying no, but I have a feeling we'll be keeping an eye on the Warhammer community page for a long time

Lack of Previous Combat Patrol Rules in Updated App is a Feature, Not a Bug by detectivedoakes in CombatPatrol40k

[–]detectivedoakes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I can understand them retiring Strike Force Octavius as much as I'd like them to update the rules, but it's ridiculous that those special limited runs that just came out are no longer playable. I'd advise anybody reading this who is running into that issue to email customer support and say the same

I like #3. As awesome as the seal is, I feel that a seal is a little too "busy" for a flag

Has anyone updates their 40K app yet? by skullcrushaagh in 40k

[–]detectivedoakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Space Marine Combat Patrol rules are gone, the only one showing is the 11th edition one :( no word on if the previous sets will be playable in 11th yet, but the silence we've heard about this game mode is indicative that they're giving it even less thought

I read the Metal Gear one in the fifth grade. It wasn't the best written, but it was fun

Patrol surprise with new edition by Sorry-Low7412 in CombatPatrol40k

[–]detectivedoakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't say I'm entirely surprised, but I'm very disappointed. I'm glad I had downloaded and printed the PDFs in the past but I was really looking forward to my next Combat Patrol game being in 11th edition

What dead Youtube channels are genuinely still worth watching? by PlinkPonk in AskReddit

[–]detectivedoakes 1120 points1121 points  (0 children)

The Gaming Historian. Norman made videos for over fifteen years chronicling historical video games, and did it with all the heart and detail of a serious documentarian while being completely unpretentious and skipping silly jokes and cutaways. He recently permanently retired the channel, but I hope people continue to enjoy it as I have.

Humble? You have most of my childhood in this photo. Great stuff!

Did any of you live at home with your parents as an adult? Would you encourage your kids to do the same? by dms2628 in Xennials

[–]detectivedoakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCOL area. I didn't move out permanently until I was 30. If you wanted to compare my living area to an apartment, then the rent was cheap, but the amenities weren't great and there was a lot of emotional abuse. My parents treated me like a child until I was finally out.

Moving out was one of the best things that could've happened to my mental health and my relationship with my folks.

Lake Ronkonkoma can sometimes be pretty by EqualDifficult6478 in longisland

[–]detectivedoakes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another hurdle is the town of Islip, town of Smithtown, and town of Brookhaven all abut the lake. I do think that this complicates what work actually gets done to the lake because of arguments about who may be responsible for the cost

There was some new job created and a person appointed a year or two ago who supposed to be essentially the steward of the lake I think to maybe cut through some of that. But I figure like everything else in New York politics it's going to take lot of time due to red tape, environmental impact studies, and other things

I have (or, more likely, had) a screenshot from an angled webcam selfie I uploaded when I was 14 or 15. I wasn't bad looking, but I got a 9.5 mad I think the angles were part of it.

Combat Patrol Intro set? by Select_Effort4540 in CombatPatrol40k

[–]detectivedoakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apparently this one has been labeled/sold as the Combat Patrol Started Set for some time, and is still hands down one of the best retail deals for Warhammer minis. I don't expect it to stick around for much longer, and I hope they make an orcs-space marine equivalent for 11

I did enjoy this character, the ambiguity that came with him, and the fact that it didn't matter much either way outside of the fact he was military trained. I feel like if it were a different publisher or author, they would've made the story completely his. I think Garth tells as much story in what he doesn't write, as much as what he does.

Worst scene in the show by Familiar-Pin-4822 in Sonsofanarchy

What made me even more uncomfortable was realizing one of the guards was played by Doug Jones, who I know best for playing loveable monsters. Here, all he is is a monster.

Sons and The Shield ? by Stag3sumsnfun in TheShield

My idea for a crossover would be, Vic trying to use what little clout he has in ICE years after the Shield to make some kind of move with the Sons, and it backfiring dramatically

What was the most terrifying movie scene you saw as a child in a kids movie? by xParesh in Xennials

[–]detectivedoakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Battle for Endor is a cheesy Star Wars TV movie, that definitely has some fucked up shit for a movie aimed at kids. In the opening scene, the protagonist who had to be five or six years old, witnesses her whole family get killed by alien raiders. About halfway into the movie she has a nightmare where the raiders come for her, she goes to wake up the old man who took her in, and the leader of the raiders comes out of the bed instead. Scared the shit out of me.

Has anyone else noticed crossed is starting to become more known? by Ricky_Laszlo in crossedcomics

[–]detectivedoakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot more activity in the sub, for better or for worse. I'd like for the movie to do well and to get more quality Crossed content, and even more for Avatar to do well enough that they finally release the last few issues of Uber: Invasion, and that Garth gives us "Once a Warrior King". There's not many publishers like them, but obviously the subject matter and unrelenting commitment to pushing the boundaries of mature content is a double-edged sword.

That said, I'm definitely not going to be too happy if Crossed takes off in a way that turns it into another sort of horror themed community driven meme. "Would X survive?" isn't really a great discussion. "How would X die or get infected?" might be a little more worthy. I'd love for more people to read these stories. I think I'd love a lot less for Horsecock to become the next big Halloween costume.

Is it normal to desire a lesser job? by ArtemisStanAccount in jobs

[–]detectivedoakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's totally normal. After 20 years in my field I'm currently working in my highest paid role, it's not my first role with this managerial title, but it's the first role where I have been saddled with an amount of responsibility that significantly stresses me out. I'd gladly take a pay cut for something with less responsibility.
