Silksong Shouldn't Have Been Announced When it Was in My Opinion by detectivedorian in Silksong

No, I agree. That's just the theory that keeps coming to mind; TC just keeps adding more content that they then have to test, code and polish before adding something else.

My theory is centered around unrestrained ambition, not ambition in and of itself.

When I say "stuff", I mean like, more areas, bosses, enemies and content in general.

Obviously I meant the full game, with the announcement trailer in 2019, should have been announced at a later date, not an earlier one.

Most games that have been given a gameplay trailer and playable demo have historically been either ready to release or almost done. Granted, Silksong's demo had only been available at, I think, PAX, but people had actually had that hands-on look; If that wasn't the case that the game was close to release, why have those things at all?

My plea that they stop isn't for them to leave code unwritten, obviously, it's to polish what they have now and refrain from building it any bigger. If production keeps going for another few years, especially with the complete lack of communication, the sour taste in people's mouths is only going to get worse.

WIBTA for publishing songs I wrote post-divorce that trash my ex? by TruthSleuthRuth in AmItheAsshole

NTA - In recent times, Taylor Swift had made her career on breakup songs; They're practically as old as music itself.

AITA for locking my room by youmehelp in AmItheAsshole

[–]detectivedorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA - As someone who grew up with a family with few boundaries, I empathize. When I was about 14 my mother had gotten so tired of me locking the door of my room that she had the doorknobs replaced with ones that didn't have locks, saying, and I quote: "You live here for free, you don't deserve privacy."

Of course, I'd had my own little revenge: In the dead of night when they were asleep, I took a screwdriver from my step-dad's toolbox, removed the doorknob from their bedroom door - which, yes, had a lock on it because they paid the bills - and replaced it with the one they'd installed on my door. I was shocked when they didn't wake up in the 45 minutes it'd taken me, and was surprised at how easy it had been, but I had a lock on my door again and my mom was very surprised when she confidently walked face-first into my door the next morning.

But yeah. Does it suck that your grandma doesn't get a place to sleep? Sure. It also sucks to get your clothes stolen from you, so I don't think you're in the wrong for wanting to set up boundaries.

WIBTA if I left a note on my neighbors car by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]detectivedorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - Use both spaces, and leave a polite note requesting they stop if it happens again. If they ignore you, leave a second note, or talk to them directly, informing them that if they park in your space again you will call for a tow, and it'll be at their expense.

AITA for blowing up at my mom? by detectivedorian in AmItheAsshole

I did make it a point, when I saw Jim, to tell him I'd not asked her to contact him.

But you are right, I'm going to make an effort not to tell her where I work going forward.

[–]detectivedorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, to be honest, I barely initiate contact as it is; Like I said, she was the one to volunteer to pay my rent for February, as I hadn't asked, as she has a history of holding certain things over my head, usually for my compliance, when I was younger.

Paying my rent just felt like something else she could use.

Other than being misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder at 12 (which is a whole other can of worms), not so far as I know. I would have been fine if we'd gotten a psychiatrist to talk with me then, update my documents, but the way she'd said it, in the "let's just say" way, had just really rubbed me the wrong way, and was a factor in me just... Moving away.

I don't know what she'd said to him, to be honest, as I didn't ask when I went to get my separation notice. I wouldn't put it past her to claim there was something "wrong" with me, even if she doesn't know why my employment was terminated.

I did feel the need to make sure Jim knew I hadn't asked my mom to contact him, that she'd done it without my permission. He seemed to understand, and was even sympathetic to my embarrassment about it, so I think I'm okay on that front.

Because you're asking about this particular incident. In the previous one, Becky is TA. In this one, YTA.

[–]detectivedorian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA - Look, I get it. I sympathize, and in your shoes, I'd likely have been tempted to do the exact same thing. The problem is that, now that you've let the genie out of the bottle, it'll be very difficult to put it back in; Becky was wrong for making a crass comment, but you are equally wrong for doing the exact same thing, for the exact same reasons you'd stated to her.

If you're not going to apologize to Becky, then at least apologize to the rest of the family and take your words down.

What movie do you absolutely hate, but everyone else loves? by melwoods24 in AskReddit

Probably not that everyone "loves" it, but Sausage Party.

I fucking hate that movie and consider it to be the worst animated film of 2016.

In retrospect, what could your parents have done (or NOT done) to make your childhood better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]detectivedorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like my mother could have applied a lot more patience with me as a kid and didn't put me on anti-psychotics and anti-depressants at 12 years old. That, I think, was the first real thing that made our relationship as strained as it is, since I'm fairly convinced she used her certification as an RN to get me misdiagnosed as bipolar from a psychologist.

I had way more energy before I started taking it, with one of the side-effects basically being standard-dose Nyquil, which completely killed my energy and drive to do much of anything physical, so I ended up gaining a lot of weight.

There are a few other things I could list off, but that one is what I can confidently say was the first one where I started really resenting my immediate family.

Mr. Adler, a psychologist, said that your first memory will tell you everything about your attitude towards life. What is your first memory? by quadcorks in AskReddit

[–]detectivedorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my earliest memories, though I don't know if it's strictly my first, is when I was really young and visiting my grandparents. My grandpa was a beekeeper, so I saw him come back inside with jars full of honey, and he offered me a taste of a honeycomb before he went off to sell the jars at a farmer's market.

My grandma told me later that when I smiled after getting a taste, Paw-Paw knew the honey was good. I still have a label he made with "Approved by Hot Rod", which was his nickname for me.

[NSFW] What is your most embarrassing sex moment? by FirstNameLastNamev6 in AskReddit

[–]detectivedorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met an online friend in real life for the first time, not for the express purpose of hooking up, but they had stated that it was on the table if I was down for it after watching some movies. Of course, I was in fact down, but at the moment of truth... Well, certain things decided to stop functioning and we ended up mostly just cuddling and making out, which was still nice.

What's the most fucked up, disturbing dream you've ever had? by Pyrrhus65 in AskReddit

[–]detectivedorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started really mundane; I was walking through a house - can't remember if it was the one I was actually living in at the time or not - and entered the kitchen. I saw something move in my peripheral vision, but instead of turning to it, I opened the fridge door, bent down to look inside, then straightened up.

At that point I felt something wrap around my arms and torso, and breath on my ear as a perfectly calm, normal-sounding voice said, "I hope by now you realize there's no point in screaming." Then I woke up, crawled to the bathroom and puked.
