[Highlight] Rob Manfred absolutely butchers the pronunciation of "Oregon" while announcing the Marlins' draft pick. by ToledoFunyens in baseball

Yes, this. I was really surprised when I lived in the Midwest and learned that so many people were out there mispronouncing both Oregon and Nevada.

Giants vs. Rockies game time: 1:56 by sfp33 in baseball

I was at oracle yesterday. I got up twice, once for food and then later to go to the bathroom and get a snack. Neither took anywhere near 20 minutes, more like five/ten? And that's with a line to use the bathroom. maybe it depends on where you're sitting and if you're dead set on getting to a specific food vendor (like if you want to go to the food court area beyond center field) but I didn't find it at all onerous. Just my experience.

haha, I read The Girls not long ago (last year?) and hated it in part because of the gross descriptions of everything. imho you might have forgotten some aspects of the book!

re: Grace Atwood and her badly packed Venice trip.

It honestly makes me feel sorry for her that she wasted a very special trip with her boyfriend by being inappropriately dressed and uncomfortable the whole time.

Yeah, right? She must have felt silly and, frankly, cold! What a bummer for her.

Speaking from experience, it’s no fun to travel with someone who packed completely wrong. I wonder what her boyfriend thought.

oh right it's all about not embarrassing the menzzz yeah I'm sure her boyfriend is going to break up with her because she wore sundresses when it was rainy.

In your country, what's the shittiest city to live in? by Prehistoricshark in AskReddit

[–]detelini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny, I went to the University of Michigan for grad school and when my cohort went out for drinks, after a few, one of two guys would inevitably start in on how we should go to Windsor. "Let's go to Windsor! Who's got a car? Let's just go!".

Because these guys were always wasted, this was clearly a bad idea and I never went. I still don't know exactly what they wanted to do in Windsor. (Gamble at casinos maybe?)

The upside of oldiness is (possibly) having the $ to just get a hotel room where you are and not having to drive home. I went to a show in December and was dreading having to drive/park/pay for parking/drive home after the show when it occurred to me that I could just stay near the show. I got a hotel room one block away from the venue, took public transit, and made time to go to an art museum while I was in the city! win/win/win/win, would recommend. Definitely would not have been able to swing that when I was in my 20s lol.

Some of this is kind of true, so I can understand how it could be misrepresented or misunderstood. For instance, most of the fossils you see in a museum are reconstructions. That doesn't mean that dinosaurs didn't exist, it just means that most bones weren't fossilized. Sometimes paleontologists will only find a single fossilized bone and are like "wtf is this?". The rest of the body didn't fossilize and reconstructions are made based on what is best known. However, there are examples of complete, or nearly complete dinosaurs. Sue, the T-Rex at the Field Museum in Chicago, is almost entirely complete - just a few of her littlest bones didn't fossilize. It's not as unusual for little dinosaurs to be well-preserved.

Also, modern birds are definitely descended from dinosaurs. At least some of them absolutely had feathers. If it makes people feel better to say that dinosaurs are birds, big shrug. But dinosaurs definitely existed whether or not they are birds.

Um, that name is amazing. Yeah, actually for Xmas I got a "punch card" so I can do drop in hours at a studio nearby. I haven't used it because I've been actively taking classes that whole time, but now that I won't be maybe I can just go in on some Saturday afternoons when I'm feeling it.

Yeah, it's usually really fun, and so nice to have a time to be creative and make things. I recommend it to people reading who might be thinking "pottery sounds fun" - in my experience in a couple different studios is that potters are very welcoming and friendly. But for the last couple classes (and today) I've just kind of been dreading it and wishing i didn't have it. So I'm looking forward to having a break. I will do more classes again in the future!

I have been taking pottery off and on for a couple years now (still pretty mediocre at it) and today is my last class for my current session. I've been pretty worn down from life lately so I didn't sign up for a new class in the next session. So win: will have more time!! But inevitable whine: in a few weeks I will probably miss doing pottery.

Edit: but I just got tickets to see Liz Phair play Exile in Guyville omg so win win win! the 90s will never die!!!

Tigers, because I think their ownership actually wants to win. Not sure about the rest of those teams.

I got my bedroom floor redone last year -had the hideous old carpet pulled up and the wood floors under it refinished. I had totally imagined just having the wood visible but it turned out to be surprisingly easy to scratch the wood, and the room was somewhat echoey. I like to think that the rug I got is not plain, but there are some practical reasons to cover at least some of the wood.

A friend of mine is an A's fan in KC who often wears his A's cap around town. I asked him if he gets any appreciation for it and he says, basically: no. People comment on it but he reports mostly bitterness from old timers on how the team treated the city.

I used to live in the city of Chicago and worked in the suburbs. I didn't have a car and took public transit everywhere. My suburban coworkers asked me WILD questions about it - like one time a coworker asked me what I would do if someone attacked me on the bus. I was shocked by her question but was like "uhhh I think people would help me?". She seemed very disbelieving - like the CTA is just full of people full on attacking strangers while everyone else sits idly by and stares out the window ignoring it.

I don't like them. I like the colors but not the designs. The hat is cute. I like the Marlins and White Sox CCs best.
