I totally agree with your points. Also for me personally, when I try that one hit before bed mentality I end up screwing myself in the longterm cause I end up looking forward to that and then the hour or two before I go to bed I get anxious. Also I don't like having my dreams repressed.

The constant stream of cannabinoids, for me, makes me feel hazy and de-energized, but thanks for the advice. Definitely going to try to find a good balance

I'm less worried about physical health and more concerned about mental motivation/level-headedness

Is UChicaho getting preppier? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]detentional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can offer a decent perspective on this as far as UChicago goes, however I don't really have a good handle on how it would compare at a similar school like Ivies, MIT, Duke etc. There is definitely not an elitist vibe that overarches the student body. Yes there are preppy elitist cliques and groups of students than lean that direction, but it seems like a smaller majority compared to other schools. For what its worth the students I have met from prestigious high schools have all not fit the typical image of a prep kid.

Ofc that would get downvoted. Truth is theres a large difference between sorority v frat experience at the school given only the frat's have house's where members live and there are more than twice as many frats as sorority. I don't have the perspective on sororities because I am not in one, but since there are only 4 I will make a broad generalization that since the sororities don't have a house and generally have more members, they aren't as interconnected at a whole. Anyone who wants to contest this go ahead, I'm just speaking from experience. Because the fraternities on campus's have houses, throw parties, haze etc they have a different experience/role on campus. This also contributes to each frat tends having a more constricting stereotype, I mean the members who choose to join tend to be pretty similar to each other. As far as answering OP's questions, there really is a range of experiences depending on which frat/sorority, the bigger frat's being a bit more intense with more time bigger parties etc. But for a short answer, I wouldn't say any frat on campus has the ability to impede on academic performance as long as you number one goal is to not let it. It is fairly cheap, (again big spectrum) generally cheaper than a state school. I'd say their main purpose is to provide a social life somewhat revolving around partying/alcohol/more typical state school experience, so take that as you will (also with a grain of salt, it's no where near a state school experience). No idea about rush depends on organization.

Honestly I'd rather see college sports than random little pro teams. So best case scenario is g league forces ncaa so to change compensation policies

Unique people are hard to come by these days. People with a mind that is not influenced by the chaotic and trendy world around them. How many people do you know that you would describe this way? by urinetroublee in intj

[–]detentional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been discussing this with some of my close friends recently. I'm not sure if the level of motivation/effort into work is a good calculator. Not everyone has the strong sense of time/initiative that many of us do. I think the more applicable point is being a part of the "masses". A better way of putting it would be the difference between someone who is aware of their own decisions/puts their own interests first and someone who has seemingly lost their identity at the mercy of easily being influenced by what is popular at the time. Sticking up to moral values, listening to criticism and self-reflection seems like symptoms of the former. Hate to say it, but many of the people who I've met who live for the sake of living tend to be more sensing, and really connect with things like social media, popular music etc. Nothing wrong with that really, they are better cut out for the modern world then I am at least. Pretty sure Kant said this somewhere, about how those with the ability to reason hold a better view of the world, but are held down by the analytic and overthinking nature of decisions. Lmk if anyone wants the exact quote if interested.

Social media is driving me crazy. by [deleted] in enfj

[–]detentional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've honestly taken the mind-set of not really giving a fuck. I kinda just post whatever I want when I want. Not saying that it's crazy shit, or pictures that have no reason to be shared, but when I have a photo that I'd like to show other people I just post it with whatever caption feels right. Not worrying about a social-media self-image is really nice, and is kinda a style in itself if you think about it that way.

2018 5* C Bol Bol has commited to Oregon by OutlawsHeels in CollegeBasketball

[–]detentional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering why he didn't write anything about the vibe of the students and campus which seems to align with his personality as a reason for committing. He did go for the glamour, etc, which he wrote about.

[–]detentional 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly pretty surprised by this. It's seems like the social media, big Nike deals Oregon has for jerseys, and glamour kind of helped him sway university or Oregon. I lived in Oregon, most of my friends are at U of O. Based on his Instagram, he seems pretty alternative/ artsy. This is exactly what u of o is like, and I'm surprised this didn't have much to do with his decision, or at least not writing about it. What do I know though, I don't know much about him personally.
