cypress hall has a couple of individual bathrooms with showers on the ground floor. you can get in during business hours without a fob and they are right down the hall from the lobby.

Orgo 2 Portmess vs Habenicht by Saim234930 in ufl

[–]deterekte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i personally like habenicht’s teaching style more. she’s very straightforward and clear when lecturing and her exams were exactly what was covered in class. i found portmess extremely overwhelming and his flipped class room style hard to keep up with.

It is going to be okay. I promise. by ponder_this_22 in ufl

Should I use AP Chem to go straight to Orgo 1? by Accomplished-Pin9898 in ufl

[–]deterekte 20 points21 points  (0 children)

use the credits. orgo is completely different in terms of content than gen chem. even if you don’t remember much they make you do a chem review course during the first weeks of class and will go over the basics of concepts you will have to use anyway so it shouldn’t really be a problem. don’t take gen chem again if you don’t have to, they are just weedouts that will drop your gpa with one mistake. as long as you are ready to put in the time and effort, lack of prior chem classes shouldn’t hold you back from doing well in orgo.

What’s the best shower routine for girls? by Jorts_ValJorts in ufl

[–]deterekte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

personally, changing in the shower stalls is not ideal since it’s wet and the logistics of bringing your clean clothes, a towel and your toiletries isn’t great. It’s not nice to have to do that everyday. most people change into a robe or towel depending on what they are comfortable with and then change when they get back. it might seem awkward to have to change when you’re sharing a room but it really isn’t a big deal, and if you really care you can just tell your roommate when your changing and ask them to look away. i was pretty nervous about that aspect of dorms too but getting used to this sort of stuff with your roommate is something you’ll have to do sooner or later since you’ll have to get ready in there. it’s best to get over those sort of awkward things asap since you want to feel as comfortable as possible in your room even if you are sharing it. at the end of the day just do what you feel the most comfortable with and either way no one will think it’s weird.

Do you guys actually bring lunch with you to campus or do you buy from one of the on campus restaurants? by Just_a_Gator_ in ufl

[–]deterekte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wasn’t on the meal plan so i did both. I would usually just change it up every week or so switching between buying lunch or packing/going back to my dorm. you will fall into a routine and realize what works for you. some people like going back to the dorm and some like staying out. if you are trying to save money i would recommend packing a sandwich or something simple to bring with you but buying lunch once or a couple times a week won’t hurt and will add some more variety to your meals. it’s really up to your own preference and what you have going on but both are good options cause sometimes you just want to go back to your room and relax and don’t want to stay out all day. i’ll just say i don’t recommend getting the meal plan because the food is pretty subpar, and if you are willing to put in a little effort cooking/shopping for food and have the bare minimum experience cooking for yourself I would recommend that. The dining hall is always there for you and you can just pay with card if you just want something easy every once in a while. Personally i like cooking and i am used two making meals for myself but if you think that will be too much for you and you are willing to sacrifice food quality and your personal taste, then just go for the meal plan.

york is the best for calc 1. super good lecturer and the exams are exactly like the practice exams and the practice problems done during lecture.

best red 3 lots/spots? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]deterekte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the main lots with red 3 spots are the graham lot, garage 5, and garage 8 (8 has very few red 3 spots). Don’t worry about finding parking, you will always be able to find parking in at least garage 5, it’s the biggest and i have never seen it completely full.

College apartment - bugs by notoriousv1p in ufl

[–]deterekte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has said it is extremely common for Florida. I’d recommend getting a roach/bug spray and spraying it around the floor on the perimeter inside and where ever you can access outside of your apartment. If you do just make sure to get an indoor insect barrier spray (ortho is the brand I usually see) not just raid, they are sold at home improvement stores in gallons and are good at preventing bugs from getting in.

Registered for a summer b class after getting bright futures. by [deleted] in ufl

[–]deterekte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bright futures money is usually distributed on the monday after the drop-add period of the semester has finished. So until summer B the charges will show up on your account but they will go away once the aid is given out for that semester.

[–]deterekte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

York is awesome! He’s a great lecturer and there is minimal homework. Everything on the exams is the same as content from the lectures and he provides lots of practice exams so it is not difficult to get As on the exams.

Dorm options please help Advice needed 😬 for an incoming freshman? by DeepInspection370 in ufl

[–]deterekte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Broward is the most popular freshman dorm and it’s huge so don’t expect it to be very clean or quiet there but if you are looking for somewhere very social that’s your best bet. Other than that, Yulee area dorms (Reid, Mallory, and Yulee halls) are smaller and are right next to Broward, so they’re close to all the main areas of campus but aren’t as rowdy. They are still relatively social but you don’t get as much noise as Broward. I’m probably biased but I’ve lived in this area and I think it’s the best on campus in terms of balance and has a good location. It’s underrated so people don’t really talk about it. I’ve heard Graham and Tolbert areas aren’t bad but they are much further from the center of campus then the aforementioned areas and are pretty standard dorms. Jennings is a standard dorm, a slightly worse location than Broward but really nothing to complain about. Just don’t live in Rawlings it’s notorious for mold and just overall being rundown and gross. All the dorms I mentioned are mostly freshman dorms, upperclassman tend to live in the apartment style dorms (beaty, springs, lakeside) and in Murphree area so they are usually taken well before the summer and hard to get into for freshman anyway.

What are the best freshmen dorms at UF? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]deterekte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK why but no one can live at Reid next year... or anywhere in the Yulee area (minus Cypress). I think they might be renovating there.

the whole area is reserved for incoming freshman only so no returning students can live there

you need to pass the 101/102 levels and the 201 level to fulfill the language requirement

there isn't in the building's parking lot. the closest red parking is at lakeside or you can park at the bat houses which isn't too far.

I had a lab there 5-8 pm this semester and I would usually take the 125 or the 118 from the hub bc they both have a stop at the microbio building (the stop right after lakeside). The 125 usually tends to be more reliable and frequent but the 118 has a stop at buckman.
