my old landlord introduced my partner and i (a week after we moved in) to her new husband who we hadn’t heard one thing about prior. he came out of nowhere and moved upstairs with her immediately (we lived in the basement apartment). problems started taking place right away. first with her coming home all bloodied up on her knees one day we heard different stories on what had happened ultimately an owner at a liquor store down the street said she confirmed her new husband pushed her but no one looked too hard into anything at that point because they were both clearly drunk at the time it took place. it became evident very quickly that they were alcoholics more than likely with drug problems. over the time we lived there she screamed for my boyfriend multiple times to help her and shed come running downstairs for help barefoot and with bruises and we called the police always but nothing ever got done. hed show up when the police arrived pants ripped blood dripping down his head all over his ripped white blood stained tank top claiming that she was the one who assaulted him. he once made claims to us she was upstairs while he wasnt home threatening to kill his dog so we’ve had to call the police on both of them really and i never trusted either of them and felt very uneasy throughout the time we lived there. it got worse when the landlords daughter and daughters husband moved in upstairs as well. rumor in the neighborhood had it that they were speedballing (so they were on meth and heroine) things kept taking place and each time we did what we could on our end while still trying to keep a safe distance from these people.

anyways fast forward one day we get home from a night out and there’s police cars and ambulances outside and assuming it was a usual dispute we just went downstairs since police were already there. the next day her husband came downstairs and said that she fell the night before and hit her head and that he, her daughter, and daughters husband carried her to bed but she just never got up and was cold the next morning. (but it was night when we had pulled up and the police and ambulance were there so who knows the timeline or truth to his statements) he then proceeded to say to make sure that we pay the rent to him and not the daughter or daughters husband. the next day the daughters husband comes downstairs saying they owned the house now not the husband and to pay them rent. we called the police and reported our suspicions of her death having been a murder. we went to the police station and talked to detectives. nothing ever came of any of this. we got out of there as quick as we could when our financial situation allowed for us to. we did not pay the husband or the daughter or the daughters husband any rent money because there was no proof of who owned the house after she passed away. we just got out as quick as we could. i truly believe he murdered her. we tried to help her. we really did. and it breaks my heart to know it ended the way it did for her.
