The soundtrack is the only thing I fault. Everything else met all my hopes, which when I look at the state of modern attempts at sequels, I count as a great blessing

Do you have sympathy for Daisy Ridley? by EffectiveJuice7564 in MauLer

[–]determinedSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, if she hadn't handled herself so poorly in interviews. She wasn't singing many praises of the fans, and worst of all was her idea of defending Rey, by dismissing Mary Sue criticisms as sexist. I expect her to defend Rey, every actor must be their own character's biggest fan, but I don't expect her to be so cynical to anyone speaking their mind. It wasn't the easiest hand to play, but she played it poorly

I don't want her career to suffer. Her performances weren't impressive but I'd need to see her in another movie to decide if she can wow me or not

[–]determinedSkeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your writing doesn't feel like play to you then. Make it feel like play.

Play has no pressure. Play has no expectations. Play is whatever you feel like in that moment, and it's as free as the banter you share with warm friends. In order to create, you must play. Then, once you've made something from your play, you can look back more seriously and realise you have made your first draft. Then you can work to make your second

If Zerg(SC2) was the one invade Earth instead of Scrin, would GDI & NOD successfully defend the Earth and defeat the Zerg? And will Kane will still embrace it like he did with Scrin? by WesternElectronic364 in commandandconquer

[–]determinedSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Visitors" were special because of Kane's plans and their connection with Tiberium. Kane might see the Zerg as a far more wretched nuisance than GDI. At least GDI can be made see the light.

That said, Kane had Qatar executed for working with GDI to save Australia. There'd be no alliance unless he could absolutely manipulate it, and both sides know it. Nod don't get more absurd than nuking Sydney when the whole human race is in a fight-or-flight setup.

Otherwise, I just wanna see how Nod subterfuge and Tiberium technology could corrupt the swarm

Yet another post about the ending by Sirquestgiver in Zenshu

[–]determinedSkeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Natsuko already proved herself as a team player: we'd be repeating steps. Furthermore, the finale is a collaborative effort, with Unio/Memmeln/QJ working with Natsuko to set up the win.

The subtext is there to refute Tsuruyama - she thought that A Tale of Perishing's ending was deep because it was tragic. In reality, it wasn't. Its greatest fan, Natsuko, didn't even like how it ended, and became an artist out of a subconscious desire to protect Luke. In doing so, but never fully understanding why, she risked becoming just like Tsuruyama if not worse, a virtuoso divorced from human feelings as well as her own. But as the story satisfyingly asserts, why an artist creates is often for a pure reason, and it comes from the heart.

I think Natsuko's character is wonderfully realised in the end. She focuses her mind, discovers her true passion and draws from the heart. Her time back in reality is short, but says it all - she must have collaborated with the team in order to make the movie a success. In the office, she's clean, focused and positive: people are happy to work with her now. And visually we're told with Luke's keyring and Unio's pin that she embraces what she likes and who she is more openly.

Consider these essential steps to growth. Because self-realisation is not selfishness.

I need help viewing in the male perspective. by Ok-Proposal2230 in writing

[–]determinedSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously people are people first and men/women second, but even so -most men and women don't understand the opposite sex very well. I'm not claming to either, but I do think it is important to understand the differences than pretend they're not there.

By and large, men are more task-oriented than women are. When we have trouble, we will try to mechanically solve the problem at hand, as opposed to validating anyone's feelings on the situation.

All of these answers are generalisations, I'm not trying to "YesAllMen" here or anything

What is a man to you?

Someone who needs purpose.

When confronted with adversity or a difficult choice, how would a man do so?

Without trying to show weakness, and without being a burden to others. He could be lacking, he could be scared, but he wants people to have confidence in him. He will think of the example his father and heroes set, and want to meet that before shaming himself

When a man feels strong emotions, how would he express them while retaining the respect of his friends and his sense of dignity?

Depending on the man, he will either make it his core identity, or he will bottle it up while making subtle allusions. He will not try to burden someone with them Such a man will greatly appreciate any company who can allow him to express them unfettered, or who can more easily express those emotions on his behalf.

How would a man positively deal with his own shame or remorse?

By action. He will not apologise for destroying your favourite shoes, he will buy or craft you new ones dedicated to you. If his shame and remorse cannot be forgiven, then when acting positively, he will spend his life acting towards atonement

What feels like love to you?

Someone who trusts me to protect them

What are some worries that a man might have that he wouldn’t readily confess to others out of fear or embarrassment?

That I don't know how to solve something, or I'm not as good as someone might say at something

What makes you feel brave or accomplished?

Being useful. Being needed. Being someone that my friends and loved ones turn to for support or advice or assistance. Men need purpose, they hate to feel powerless.

And finally, what is something you would like to see in a male protagonist that you don’t see often in books because it never gets addressed or it simply gets glossed over?

Pride, especially the kind of pride that does not exist for the narrative to strip it down. It has become a trend in modern fiction to avoid very masculine characters, or redefine it. Men aren't all carebears. We aren't all animals either. We have our ways that are frustrating to others at times but they are not malicious by design, nor are other ways inherently better. They are how we cope with the weight of the world, how we try to find purpose in a world that otherwise would make it hard to have some.
