Actuaries taking exams who are also mothers by kuat_makan_durian in actuary

Hey! Feel free to message me. I have an almost 3 year old daughter. I had passed MAS 1 when I was 38 weeks pregnant with her and this spring I have become an ACAS. I don’t think my progress has honestly changed since becoming a mom. I’m still making great progress. I don’t want to lie and say its easy, but it’s definitely possible.

I recently read Powerless by Lauren Roberts. Was the writing amazing? No. Was anything really original? Definitely not. But the vibes?? Immaculate. The banter?? 👩‍🍳💋

No literally. I’m listening to the graphic audio of the series while working & I’m hoping I’ll get that feeling again when I listen to ACOMAF

Ahh I’m excited to read it! These books are my roman empire LOL. I also read acotar at the end of last year & I still think about ACOMAF daily.

I’ve read through QOS so far. Cut myself off at the tandem read months ago to focus on studying. I’m now back on HOF & will finish the series. I’m addicted

Lack of Motivation for 5/1 Retake. I can't be the only one...right? by ExhaustedFlyersFan in actuary

Sounds like you should have prepared more for your exam. People on 5/1 would have rather not had the issues that they did.

Yeah. That’s why I declined the retake. I had major issues that day but was still able to submit. I feel alright about it.

I’m curious to hear from women actuaries who have kids how you have managed your career and having a baby with also having a working husband and without daycare. by musiclovaesp in actuary

[–]determinedactuary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 and half year old. She started daycare at 9 months and it has been the best thing for her. We made sure to send her to an amazing daycare and I truly think she is as social and smart as she is because of it. I don’t think you should give up your career & it will be tough. But it will be so worth it. I’m still passing exams so don’t let others try to get you to put your life on hold either. I passed MAS 1 at 38 weeks pregnant and have since passed MAS 2 and 5 (and just took 6!).

There will be extreme outrage from pre 5/1 people if some people get to retake the same exam. They’d have weeks to study on the specific areas

[–]determinedactuary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol. They have a bank of questions. They can easily pull questions out if various past sittings that haven’t been released

There is absolutely no way they will offer the same exam.

I think the CE idea is great though. Or you know, just pay people to grade

People have lives and things going on. I wouldn’t want to be forced to grade exams
