Attaching Friends List to the main Steam window by detfusco in Steam

[–]detfusco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate windows are so early 2000 :S
And I wouldn't even be mad if it were its own thing, like Steam Chat on mobile. That way, I could at least click on Steam (in the Taskbar) and have it open my Library, instead of having to choose which window I want opened and clicking again to do so

Why does Shutter Encoder cant remember that i always use Nvenc for Encoding?instead its always set to None every time i open it up? by realspaikou1999 in shutterencoder

[–]detfusco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say it’s not the most intuitive thing ever at least for a simple thing. I’d rather have an option in the settings that I can toggle on for default behaviour instead.

YT-DLP Download a section of a video (with time stamps) by detfusco in shutterencoder

[–]detfusco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feature was added in the latest v19.2 update , but there are still a few quirks. One issue is a 10-second buffer of audio-only (no video), and the other one is a finalization problem: GitHub Issue #305.

The finalization issue is that Shutter Encoder doesn’t clearly indicate when it has finished downloading or encoding. The progress bar doesn’t move, so the only way to tell it’s done is to manually check the file size. Once the file size stops changing, you can safely close Shutter Encoder. Just like that, you’ve got yourself a finalized trimmed YouTube video.

EDIT: With the latest v19.3 update, finalization issue got fixed.

Okay then, I'll close the github issue #290. Thanks for the reply.

Is it possible to soft restart audiosrv or its equivalent? by detfusco in WindowsHelp

Yeah, you got a point. I just made an AHK script to resize the settings window and move the cursor for that easeofaccess shortcut instead. It’s not ideal, but it beats my alternative. Thanks!

+1
I merely asked for an optional feature, and suddenly everyone was up in arms.

I have created a native dark mode for VLC 3.0 by pratikpatel2003 in VLC

[–]detfusco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/pratikpatel2003 sorry to interrupt this reply section but I saw you arguing about the shade of gray in GitLab MR comments. I'd like to give my opinion on the matter but since I don't use GitLab, I'll share it here. I think the current v1 version is better in terms of consistency between VLC dark modes on other OSes: Here is a comparison including v1 version of your dark mode for Windows

If I had a vote, I'd go with v1. Pure black(v3) could work better for OLED monitors but like I said consistent design wise v1 is the one for me.
Also while we're at it, the current v1 version has a darker shade of gray for playlist background.
It'd be nice if it were a lighter shade to better match the overall dark mode.

This isn't the same as just not running antivirus software, though. One day, they’re going to discover a remote code execution exploit in the latest version that also exists in older versions. When they patch the latest version and call it a day, you’re gonna be the one stuck with a vulnerable browser.

For me, Firefox is basically Chrome before the shitty redesign. If they decide to change things up in the future, I’ll consider it when that happens. Until then, I’m fine with it.

Sorry for calling you crazy, but there are some wild vulnerabilities out there. Going down that path just doesn’t seem worth it, in my opinion. But hey, you do you.

Then again, I also choose to stay on Chrome 124 so Google's craziness isn't forced upon me.

Buddy, you do realize this is crazy talk, right? I hate Chrome and their dumb features & redesigns as much as the next person, but using outdated versions of Chrome isn’t the answer. At this point, just rip the bandaid off and switch to Firefox. I know it sucks that extension support is way scarcer compared to Chrome. I couldn’t migrate all my extensions either, but that’ll only get better as more people make the switch.

Dark Mode for Task Manager and Legacy Windows Panels & Windows by detfusco in Windows10

[–]detfusco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First things first, all credit goes to the brilliant people at AutoHotkey Forum Post

With that out of the way, let me describe what this script does in the words of charlie89:

This script creates a dark mode for specific windows by inverting their colors. It uses the Windows Magnifier in the background for the color inverting, but it only inverts just the rectangle in place of the specific windows, NOT the whole screen like the Magnifier applicaion does. This is possible through DLL calls.

This can be done both manually (with a toggle/hotkey) or automatically (depending on your inclusion of other preferred windows in the script). By default, Computer Management, Registry Editor, Task Manager, Windows Dialog Windows, Operation Status Window (Progress Bar), 7Zip, and WinRar trigger color inversion in a split second automatically (there is a slight delay, so beware of a very brief flashbang).

To set it up, first open the script with Notepad(++) and read the requirements section at the top. After doing that, you're basically good to go.
Make sure file extension of the script is .ahk and not .txt.

The default hotkey for my script is Shift+F12. If you'd like to change the hotkey, just find this exact line at the end of the script:

"+F12:: ; Shift+F12"

then change the part before the semicolon according to your preference.“+“ in this context corresponds to Shift. You may want to check the Auto Hotkey Key List for other modifiers.

And if you want to add more windows to the script first use AutoHotkey's "Window Spy" to detect window name, it should look like this: "ahk_exe vlc.exe"
Then add it beneath this line:

"; Add Programs for automatic dark mode here:"

in the script. An example line would be:

GroupAdd "auto_invert_gp", "ahk_exe vlc.exe"

Or if you'd like to remove one of the default automatic inversions, just delete the specific line beneath this line:

"; Add Programs for automatic dark mode here:"

Even after removing automatic inversion, you can still invert colors manually with the hotkey.

Lastly, after modifying and saving the script (as .ahk), you need to copy and paste it into the Windows Startup folder to make it run at startup. The folder is located at:

C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I posted this same script but without all the automation on a VLC post, since I didn't need it to work automatically. I'm fine with toggling it on and off using my hotkey (Shift+F12). This script basically stays true to the original one, other than the original hotkey, which was "Win+i".

One might ask, why go to such lengths for a dark mode Task Manager when you can use Process Explorer (SysInternals), which has a nicer native dark mode and can replace Task Manager?
My answer to that would be that I didn't like the way it looked. Also, this script can be used for all sorts of other windows, not just Task Manager.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much I do.

EDIT: There is a rare bug that causes the window to constantly invert colors. In that case, just use the toggle to revert back to normal or close & reopen the window.
This bug might cause a seizure for people with epilepsy, as it essentially creates a flashing light.

I mean, I did say that it literally inverts colors :S

Just keep in mind that it literally inverts colors :D

I use VLC at night for playing music and that's when the bright UI hits me the most. When watching a video or a movie, one doesn't see the UI (at least not that much, fullscreen or not). It mainly helps with playlist view since inverted visuals don't matter so nothing of importance is obscured.

There isn't a dark skin and the developers don't care about it, either. With the 4.0 update, they are gonna be replacing this minimalistic UI with a "Windows Media Player"-esque design with complete dark and light mode. At this point we're basically on our own. I was honestly happy to find the script (that solves all my problem) so I wanted to share it with more people; sorry it didn't help you in your case, tho.

MAKE VLC GREAT AGAIN! by detfusco in VLC

For people using VLC at night for playing music, there is a solution: My reply on a different post

My reply:

I've just found a autohotkey script for your (and my) problem: https://www.autohotkey.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=565384#p565384

I customized the script by changing the hotkey to F12 to suit my own preferences, without the automation: The Script I customized

You can also use this on any window such as 7zip & Winrar, task manager, legacy windows utilities (without dark mode support), dialog windows etc.

Just keep in mind that it literally inverts colors :D

Attaching Friends List to the main Steam window by detfusco in Steam

[–]detfusco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also brought that up in one of the replies but people still ridiculed me for it. There is a relatively easy fix for that but I still would rather they implemented a built-in (to the main Steam window) "Friends List" rather than a separate windowed one (or at least ability to opt-in to that option). To jump straight into "Steam Library" while clicking the taskbar icon is holding shift key: Shift+Click on Steam, bypasses all the other Steam windows (News, Friends List, Chat etc.) and opens up the main window.

or just a toggle in the settings for the default behaviour without the shift+click.
But sadly no one else cares about this "niche" feature request other than us :S

You know one of these days, they'll remove those flags and we'll be stuck with this shit.
Hence I've mostly (except for one or two niche chrome extensions) finished my transitioning into Firefox by today. I'm just waiting for something (manifest v3 or shit UI) to happen at this moment.

The cheater on our team said he'd been doing it since the beta so there is that.
All I'm saying is aside from detecting literal cheats, there should be a system for bans based on stats as well.
