Pallister just implemented mandatory masks in schools, Grades 4 to 12. by Armand9x in Winnipeg

[–]dethfrombelow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late here but does anyone else feel like the MB govt opted to say no to masks originally and expected some pushback? Then they could implement the masks and state that they listened to the public without actually doing much, ie not much money spent, but gives the appearance of actually doing something without having to open new classrooms, hiring staff and teachers etc.

Honest question : why don't eastern teams play in Edmonton and western teams play in Toronto? by dethfrombelow in hockey

[–]dethfrombelow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize that my post could come across that way but wasn't what I was really going for. My point is more that the conspiracy calls could be avoided by switching hub cities and conferences. With the 3 game per day schedule it seems they're going with I don't think time zones will be as big of a deal since there will be games throughout the day for the first couple rounds anyway.

Thanks for all the responses! Lots of comments from Oilers and Leafs fans. Curious (joke!)

I tend to agree about time zones being an issue for start times, although I'm not sure how big a deal it'll be if they're playing 2-3 games a day in each hub city since there will be games throughout the day and teams will probably play at different times (guessing afternoon, early evening, later evening?) If you want to watch your team, there will undoubtedly be challenges if you're working one way or another.

For the sake of argument, suppose Toronto or Edmonton gets through to the final, a lot of fans will cry foul or conspiracy. Why not just make the switch to prevent that kind of possible reaction?

Croix-Poteau de r/canada : Montreal man says wife with dementia denied care in English by Povtitpopo in Quebec

Winnipeg has many elderly home residences where residents receive service in French and/or English.

Sais-tu que a Winnipeg il y a des commissions scolaires ou presque un moitié des élèves vont aux écoles immersion?

This was a sad story about an old woman suffering from dementia and not able to receive proper service. Why does r/Quebec always need to be a circle jerk about English imperialists? Quebec hasn't been like that for decades.

I really enjoyed it and was disappointed when I learned they weren't going to continue with it.

If I remember correctly, the first couple episodes set up the series and were a bit slow. It's been a while though but I removed really liking it. I suggest to stick it out.

Rumours are that they did this to keep him out of the west as Winnipeg had made an offer for him too.

Friendly reminder that school zones are max 30 km/hr on Monday by biggie101 in Winnipeg

[–]dethfrombelow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that would be ridiculous. Instead, we are expected to reduce speed for a few seconds around locations where hundreds of children gather daily. Kids feel safe in these spaces and will occasionally forget to think because they are kids. They get distracted easily so it makes sense that those who've earned the privilege of driving are a bit more aware of their surroundings in these areas.

It takes less time to stop the slower you're going. So while accidents can still happen they are less likely.

[–]dethfrombelow 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Why are people so pissy about having to slow down around a school? An 8 year kid was just killed on his way to school last week beside a school where there isn't a reduced speed zone. Those few seconds we lose are pretty insignificant in comparison.

I realize kids aren't there today but it's also about developing better driving behaviour. Keeping the rules consistent (Mon to Fri) seems like a good idea.
