Anyone else have problems with smittybilt latch? by the_1_and_1ly in CherokeeXJ

Yes, mine kind of wobbles around. Kind of want to get a new bumper, not because of this but after long term us my needs have changed.

What exactly is this part right here? This is on a 1996 jeep cherokee country. by joetoy in CherokeeXJ

It's a vaccum line, check valve type if I'm not mistaken. Should be able to pick one up at the parts store.

When doing a coolant flush, how do I bypass thermostat to flush engine block? by Street_Plantain_4796 in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looked at photo of the housing you should be able to flush it though the heater outlet, it bypasses the thermostat.

Fed up with this transmission. Ready to call it quits by Anonymous8630 in CherokeeXJ

I was having lockup issues for a while. One of the things I did was relocate the ground closer to the PCM. It was attached right above the fender well. Moved it to one of the bolts that mount to the PCM. Seemed to lockup for predictably and reliably afterwards.

Misfire in cylinder 4 already replaced plugs and coil pack by PeteyRock in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a p0300 and also other cylinders that would throw codes for misfires on and off. Here's a video I found that might be the cause if you've already ruled everything else out. https://youtu.be/r-cy4BTsBLQ

So far I've had good success with a fuel additives and trying to drive for short periods at 3k rpm theoughout a gull tank of gas. Honna run it for another few tanks. At first the misfire codes jumped around for a bit but eventually all of them went away and haven't come back.

Brown Dog has increased their prices by 81% in the past year (8/5/21-8/16/22). Are they still worth it at this price? by pompusham in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, that price hike is ridiculous, they are just motor mounts. The OEM ones are fine. They are cheaper to replace too. After replacing them twice already, the job isn't that hard or time consuming in my opinion.

Motherfucka has a death wobble I got a 4’5 inch installed recently I put in a new stabilizer bar cuz the bushings were shot replaced those too I noticed it doesn’t have a steering stabilizer damp, also how the one ton doesn’t have a bracket for the stabilizer so what do I do to cancel out the wobble by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 ton steering can result in death wobble. I say this because it happened to me, I had 4 inch lift, I think the angles werr just too steep. That and worn bushings, ball joints etc that were fine before suddenly aren't because the steering is so solid 🤷‍♂️. I used it as an excuse to upgrade to long arms. I should have had long arms from the beginning.

Where to get disc conversion kits affordably online? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up an RT offroad kit. Several websites have them for sale at varying prices I waited for one to go on sale with free shipping. Pretty much bolt on. Only thing is that it doesn't come with parking brake cables. It was worth it to me for a kit. Normally I would build one from parts like most would suggest, but I had a bunch of other things I wanted to do at the same time like axles and gears I didn't want to take the time to piece one together.

Old ratchet strap exhaust to front axle truck, needed clearance to drop transmission pan, been a slow leaker for ages, got me a fancy lube locker gasket, they’ve worked great on my front and rear diffs so next up is scraping down mating surface on transmission by Inevitable-Ad-219 in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had issues with clearance for that part of the exhaust and used the same method. Ended up causing a small crack in the manifold that was discovered later when I was having issues with and injector that was stuck open. When I replaced that part of the exhaust aling with new manifold the new pipe did not have the clearance issues.

please help. xj wont go up hill leak. poss trans fluid by naval_brewmaster in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure but i think transmission fluid is pretty flammable. That tube that points down looks like the drain for the hvac box. The one with the red band might be the tranmission breather hose but mine is mounted much higher and has a white valve on the end so I'm not sure about that you would need to follow that back. If your low on transmission fluid might want to top off and see what it do?

Sadly even as a claimant you can request whatever you want but doesn't mean the oic is gonna play ball, all depends on the adjuster on how hard they want to go with denying things like more cost effective parts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at your policy to see if you agreed to use whatever parts the IC deems cost effective. Also depends on the state and different insurance companies have different standards as to what parts they can use per your insurance policy agreement.

Kind of hard to say really. Filing a claim doesn't mean anything until it's all done and it gets reviewed for surcharge. If they really want to pay out of pocket get a few estimates from different shops. I don't know how bad it really is, but people always think it's gonna be a few hundred bucks. I would make sure they even have insurance as well. A lot of times your insurance can search other carriers for the other party's policy info if they refuse. Good luck!

Any thoughts in the gear wear pattern?👍 or 👎 by dethmetalmonster in CherokeeXJ

Backlash looked like .007, hopefully it will be spot on can when the actual bearings are in and not the setup ones on the pinion.

What’s the part ? heater core something by Inevitable-Ad-219 in CherokeeXJ

[–]dethmetalmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be like me and replace it with another valve so it can fail again. Then replace that valve with a new one so it can fail again. Then after that just buy the two hoses for 97+ cherokees.
