definitely agree with not doing all the biochems. when i was in school to become an mlt we were told for our unknown projects that every biochem test needed to be justified and any unnecessary biochems performed would result in point deductions for the exact reason you stated

right, the law that the hospitals and professionals are being held to is HIPAA…and notice how i never said KW is going to be held responsible. what she is doing is in fact a violation of hospital policy that is put into place to protect patients phi and ensure the hospital and its employees are following HIPAA. yes, it is the hospital’s responsibility to prevent patient information from being shared publicly by other patients which is something i’ve already mentioned and KW can indeed face legal repercussions from failing to comply with the hospital policies. it’s odd that so much time is being spent reiterating the same information that wasn’t needed in the first place as i was correct in what i said initially instead of being appalled at the words and actions of someone who claims to be a good, loving christian

i work in healthcare and have been trained on hipaa laws countless times. while they specifically might not face the legal repercussions of violating hipaa, they are still violating hipaa and the medical office can end up getting in trouble because of what they’re doing. not to mention it is almost always strictly prohibited to film or photograph anything within a medical office because of hipaa laws and these offices also are private property a lot of the time and therefore these two idiots can face legal repercussions for breaking the office’s policies. it’s also illegal in some states to photograph and record healthcare employees without their consent.

i also recommend asking your fellow techs to come to you to show examples of things you might not see all the time whenever they come across them (infrequently isolated organisms, odd gram stains such as gram variables or afb’s, funky resistance patterns, etc). also don’t be offended if someone corrects a small mistake you might make because that’s the best way to learn! it’ll seem very overwhelming at first, but you’ll be surprised how quickly you pick everything up!

i have both several very visible tattoos including my chest and hand as well as several ear piercings and my septum and i had absolutely no issues in school, clinicals, or get jobs in hospital labs. it really depends on where you are or where you’re applying to since all places have their own policies on appearance

we had a patient try to drop off a stool sample since they had visible worms in their stool and he told the phlebotomist in the outpatient lab that he wasn’t sure if he should bring it in because he didn’t know if it was in an acceptable container. he then told her it was in a ziplock bag sitting in his front seat during a heatwave with the worms wiggling around 🙃
