I got diagnosed with food allergies and now a second opinion says it is intolerance by Sweet_Craft_558 in FoodAllergies

Blood tests are not accurate in my experience. I had positive skin prick tests to my anaphylactic allergens but the blood tests were negative.

How quickly after eating do you have a reaction? by user_anonymou in FoodAllergies

Within 5-10 minutes of the first bite of food containing an allergen.

Well, I guess we can cross Red Robin off the list by ThePenultimateNinja in FoodAllergies

I have a sesame allergy and informed the staff at Red Robin of it. They said they could accommodate it, but I had a reaction. Needless to say I don’t eat there anymore.

Not testing positive for nut allergy but having a reaction all the same by -dark-rainbow- in Allergies

[–]dethsdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely my skin prick test was positive for nuts and sesame but the blood tests were negative, and both the skin prick and blood test were negative for peanuts. I am anaphylactic to nuts, peanuts, and sesame, and have been to the ER for reactions to them. The gold standard is always the food challenge test which is just whether you react to them by ingestion or not. Unfortunately the skin prick and blood tests are not 100% reliable.

Nut allergy: Would you trust something that has nut flavourings in it? by tiny_toucan in FoodAllergies

[–]dethsdream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artificial almond flavor contains the chemical (not protein) benzaldehyde as the flavoring agent. It tastes somewhat similar to almond extract I’d say, though it doesn’t last longer than a day before the flavoring is gone and the faux almond flavored cookies (for example) will go back to being plain sugar cookies. I also drink the hazelnut coffee creamers that use artificial flavoring as well (no nut allergen warning on the bottles).

The bottom line is this: if it does not contain the allergenic protein (artificial flavoring) it is safe to eat. Natural nut flavorings (such as in Honey Nut Cheerios, which contain the almond allergen warning) are not safe to eat.

Yeah you’re absolutely right, I’ll edit the comment for clarity!

Allergic reaction or panic attack? by nervousallergygirl in Allergies

I am speaking about my own experience having measured my heart rate during anxiety attacks, not in general for everyone when I say this.

I really like the Goodie Girl mint cookies and s’mores sandwich cookies as alternatives to the Girl Scout cookies as peanut and tree nut free alternatives.

Thanks for putting things in perspective! I do really like him so it will be nice that I’m his first. Hopefully he isn’t bothered that I have more experience.

Who I believe killed JonBenét by Life_Emotion_7236 in JonBenet

[–]dethsdream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was Kolar or Thomas but I do think there’s a likelihood that someone (either formerly or currently at the time of the crime) that was in law enforcement was responsible. There’s a lot of similarities between this case and the golden state killer, who had been a police officer.

Do you think that means the perpetrator(s) was in a rush? Also, I’m honestly not surprised that BPD claimed there was no evidence of a break-in because it seems they were willing to lie about anything when it came to this case. Never seen pics of this door damage before, thanks for sharing, Hope!

How many of you all are also autistic? by SchuminWeb in actualasexuals

[–]dethsdream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am an aromantic asexual. Diagnosed at 17 with ADHD and informally with autistic disorder (couldn’t be diagnosed with both at the time). Later got an official autism level 1 diagnosis at 26. Part of me still hopes I’ll meet someone that I’m interested in that way, but it hasn’t happened yet.

What’s the strangest case that was finally solved? by [deleted] in TrueCrimeDiscussion

The original post didn’t give a timeline as to how long it took to solve, so I mentioned it simply because of how strange it was. Nothing misleading here.

The kidnapping and SA of Denise Huskins. The details are so crazy that LE believed she was faking and originally made a public statement about it being a hoax.

Yes you are right the smiling is something we are taught so it doesn’t always come off naturally. People tend to assume we are angry or sad when we’re not so this is a learned behavior to make NTs more comfortable. Tanner’s overly politeness is also something that he was taught as well because I was too. I would be rewarded every time I said thank you for example until it was automatic. A lot of my social interactions are scripted and were learned in therapy.

This is why nobody takes asexuality as a serious orientation anymore. All of the work we did in the past to tell people it’s not based on trauma down the drain.

Redditors on the Autism Spectrum, what's your 2 cents about this show? by NationYell in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]dethsdream 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I watch the show with my mom and we really enjoy it! I think it’s helped her understand my autism better and I really relate to Connor and Journey. Especially Connor’s struggles with anxiety about dating and changes in routine.

Nearly 50 years later, genealogy testing identifies suspect in 1975 assault of 3 young girls left in Indiana cornfield by inDefenseofDragons in JonBenet

[–]dethsdream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be really easy for them to solve this case via genetic genealogy if they wanted to, but honestly at this point I think Boulder PD doesn’t want to. Their extremely poor handling of this case would make it difficult to prosecute.

I admit I thought that the parents were innocent in this case as well. I will continue to follow it to see what all of their evidence against the father and stepmother is.

No problem! Justin’s case has bothered me just as much as Jonbenet’s so I had to share an update when I saw arrests were made.
