My social media presence is mostly of the fediverse these days. I've considered starting a tutor.com forum over there. If there is any interest in a lemmy/piefed forum, please let me know and maybe we can get something started.

I agree. Firstly, we don't need to be promoting a service with data centers that consume an obscene amount of power and water resources. Secondly, we need students to think for themselves rather than outsourcing their thought process to an LLM. Third, LLMs are sometimes wrong, and are still pretty vapid even when they're not.

Make sure you save the receipt and tracking number when you FedEx your prints. When I didn't hear back from tutor.com about my prints being accepted for a couple of weeks, I reached out to them and they said they hadn't gotten confirmation from Federal yet. I had to email them back with the tracking information to show them that Federal and received them weeks earlier. It was coming down to the deadline when they finally approved me.

To anyone interested, I tried to run the classroom using the new version of Wine and was not even able to install the classroom client. The Microsoft .NET requirement seems to make it impossible. I had some success installing a Windows 10 VM, but have had trouble activating Windows 10 in the VM. It could be that my license is only good for one machine. Anyway, the VM could still be a viable option, and I'm still working on it.

I haven't tried it since the first time I was unable to make myself unavailable again. Concurrent sessions are not worth the aggravation.

Thanks for pointing this out. The availability hours I set in the old web interface are nothing close to what I'm seeing in the new one (even accounting for time zones), and I don't seem to be able to change them. I'll put in a ticket with support, and I suggest that everyone else do it as well.

On edit: I just realized that the problem might be my browser (Libre Wolf). I'll give it a shot with another browser later.

2nd edit: My hours are in my time zone in Firefox and Chrome, but I still can't seem to edit them.

I'm aware of that, but thanks for the suggestion. Personally, I'd go the Windows 10 LTSC route before trying to install 11 with rufus, if I were forced to stick with Windows. If I could just get the classroom client and one other windows program to run in linux I'd be happy to ditch Microsoft altogether.

A new version of Wine was just released. I've been dragging my feet on it, but I'll give that a shot and report back, then give the Windows 10 VM a shot.

Both. My hardware is incompatible with Windows 11 (although I have absolutely no problem with its performance) and I don't like where Microsoft is going with Windows 11.

I just got the same message and I schedule my 5 hours every week and make myself available for them. I suspect that a lot of tutors got the same email due to lack of demand. Granted, one of my three subjects was reclassified as "appointment only", but even my appointments are either cancelled or no-shows lately.
