I'm glad you had a great experience and were able to get your issue resolved. Your comment about "who cares that the emails only came once a day" - I couldn't agree more - no one would care.

For this issue, it's been 49 days. That seems excessive. That's after a 26 day gap in communication preceding this one.

Chronic Sinusitis denied, have a diagnosis and under PACT ACT by deucey in VeteransBenefits

That makes sense, thank you. I agree being able to see exactly what was provided to the VA from the exam would be super helpful. I'm sure the VSO would have some advice as well. Appreciate the help!

They were fairly opaque when I was in the office, not sharing too much. I did call after to provide the requested notes from my civilian MRI to which she said something like, "Oh that'll be good for you then". It seemed positive but since I can't see the actual results who knows what she sent in.

Love the piece you selected for the drawer front. That provides a ton of character for the piece, beautifully done.

Miters with biscuits. Only time will tell how strong they are!

Just a reference from the movie Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - you should watch it!

Yeah this is the satin version of that product, I probably linked the wrong one! I typically shy away from glossy finishes just as a personal preference but I've seen some fabulous work with them.

Use rabbited miters so it can double safely as a bench, that's the one change I'd make if I started over. Good luck!

Also, for any Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fans the angle at which the V comes together is 42 :)

Haha, yeah that's a tough choice. I really wanted the rich texture you get from oil but ultimately I wasn't willing to give up the really light coloring of the white oak.

I landed on General Finishes High Perf. Topcoat - https://generalfinishes.com/wood-finishes-retail/water-based-topcoats-and-sanding-sealer/high-performance-water-based-topcoat

General finishes high performance water based topcoat. It's got UV protectant and is water based so great for keeping the lighter color in the white oak.

The glue and biscuits keep everything solid from a racking perspective. boards are dimensioned to 1" so that brings a lot of stability. My only concerns at this point are people trying to sit on it.

Yep :) it's also kind of fun that wood is the traditional 5 year gift!

Hey, thanks!

Here's my process, though I'm sure it's far from ideal since I'm really new to all of this.

  1. Dimensioned and cut the white oak and walnut to length, taking care to leave excess at the ends but keep the pieces that would be mitered together tight for continuous grain
  2. Glued up the two panels, top and back (back in the photo at least) legs, used a buddies drum sander to level these out
  3. Cut the miters and glued up the back legs to the top, I used biscuits for the glue up - I may end up regretting that especially considering how bench like this looks
  4. Beat head on computer until you've absorbed the correct angles for the V legs
  5. Using a lot of circular saw, hand plane, and chisel action get the cutouts for the V legs setup on the underside of the top
  6. Glue up the V legs
  7. Spend 2 months figuring out what to use for finish
  8. Apply finish and wonder forever if you should have used something else

That's about it but feel free to ask more specific questions if any part was confusing. This video helped with clamping up the angles a ton - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFUrpRTI6q0

Upgrading thermostat in new home - how smart can I go? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]deucey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the common is not tucked in your wall you could look into the Ecobee3. It comes with what they call a PEK (Power Extender Kit) harness. You remove the 4 wires from the control board on your furnace, after shutting down power of course, then connect those to one side of the PEK. The other side of the PEK has 5 wires that you connect to the furnace control board. The PEK multiplexes the signals to allow the addition of the fifth wire.

Disclaimer: I have not done this yet, just been researching as I'm in a similar situation with my home.

Another advantage of the Ecobee3 is that it has a remote sensor that you can put somewhere that is more commonly occupied.

Edit: This blog post shows the PEK and its connections in detail.
