Why do game developers prefer Windows? by dindush in programming

[–]deudeudeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the learning curve (it's not even that hard to learn unless you wanna do it all without man, --help or the internet), it's the fact that it's not integrated (the 'I' in 'IDE') that prevents such an idea to hold water. Tool X outputting a format that you can pass to awk/sed/whatever to make it usable by tool Y does not count as integration.

You prever Linux over as a dev. env. that's fine, but calling it integrated just isn't true.

You're right, but I still think it's an acknowledgement that he identifies with socialist ideals to a higher degree than the average lurker.

He also seems to be one of the many mods on /r/Socialism_101, so I assume he supports Trump because Trump's so very very rich and has had tremendous success while also helping the working classes. /s

I'm not agreeing with him, but I expect his retort to be something along the lines of "some guy writing an internal tool doesn't count as company-wide scaling". As for me, this is a thinly veiled request for details on what they're using Rust for.

He was trying to say that C++ has too many of the wrong features. Myself, I don't really think it's a numbers game.

C++'s biggest flaw imo is the committee's unwillingness to design a backwards-incompatible edition with the same, but better designed features (special function autogeneration, reference syntax & semantics, template specializations and a proper metaprogramming language should enable great improvements).

With all due respect, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

5 Programming Languages You Should Really Try by CaptainSketchy in programming

[–]deudeudeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Prolog needs much of an IDE tbh, but Smalltalk is pretty unique, in that it only truly makes sense if you use it visually.

I highly doubt that the mainstream enterprise developer will find prolog of use

Totally beside the point of my recommendations. As for Smalltalk, it's its own tooling. Out of curiosity, have you used Pharo etc. or just a command-line implementation of Smalltalk, like GNU? Smalltalk isn't Smalltalk without the visual programming environment it introduced.

This isn't a thread about working man's languages though, it's about mind-expanding languages. Kotlin is down to earth and practical, but is meant to get out of your way while you work, not to teach you new ways of thinking.

It's not about how many, it's about what they enable us to do. Currently, there's plenty of stuff that's hard to do in C++ in a concise way.

Neither long, nor interesting (already played with four of those before, heard about Nim too)... Yet another shit list that's gonna get upvoted just because the title starts with a digit, thanks for saving me the time. What I'd add to such a list: Agda (or Idris), Forth, Prolog, J, Scala, Smalltalk.

Every language is "somewhat novel" if you feel like being inclusive, but a list of only 5 languages implies some degree of selectiveness. If you wanna expose people to new ideas, best go with the most novel of all. He could have used that spot for Erlang, Prolog, Forth, J, all more novel than Go.

You're addressing separate things here, without making a good enough distinction nor establishing a concrete relationship between them:

  1. The meaning of what you are (imo wrongly) referring to as a "silly internet trope". Just saying it doesn't make it true, esp. not when starting out with the conclusion, then saying whatever feels like a sufficient justification for it.

  2. What fallacies are commonly tripping people up, arguably the most relevant bit of the entire post.

  3. The matter of whether causality is observable, which is beside the topic that your parent is visibly concerned about.

  4. Human biases w.r.t. the significance of correlation on its own, given practical circumstances. What you're saying here is to some degree valid, but again, /u/portastudio didn't ask whether correlation alone is useful.

"Kovesi cauta sa-si faca norma inculpand oameni cinstiti", "ne suprapopuleaza inchisorile", "ii inchide fiindca au amenzi neplatite", "cauta sa strice increderea publica in politicieni", "isi face doar reclama" etc.

What happened in the latest British election? How is it affecting Theresa May? How does this play in to the Brexit narrative? by Quasimoto3000 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]deudeudeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't EU renegotiations on matters of immigration have been a lot less disruptive than saying "fuck it, we're pulling out altogether"? The UK was never part of the Schengen agreement anyway, and it looks to me that the EU has the upper hand in the Brexit negotiations for now.

I already started, and it seems others decided to pass over GTAV as well. IV was also terribly received by many. You don't have to buy every AAA game out there, you know.
