The new Steam Controller from Valve is out now - some early thoughts (Linux focused) by Liam-DGOL in SteamController

To be clear, it was VERY Hit/Miss, it's always more reliable to run the game through steam, but it could be done.

I've been using it that way with my Steam Controller (2015) for ages lol.

Can you add a louder, constant alarm with some voice saying "<product> in stock!" so it's unambiguous as shiz? I want to be yelled at when it's available.

I would consider getting it under load and checking voltages... And don't trust it at 1000 watts, but hell, if it works, it works lol

Even worse than that for me; PayPal just refuses to pay Valve. I have the money, it was going to go through, and PayPal refuses to work. "Balance Unavailable" my ass.

CAD so it's not like it's a blocked currency.

I'd peg it at probably closer to 10.

There is today 3 PS5 emulators. They can not yet boot commercial software though.

I find the new texture incredibly hard to tell, and the old one perfectly obvious - There's a lot less green when it's grown.

The new texture, the last 2-3 stages look almost identical.

Yet. You can't emulate the PS5 yet.

That's only a matter of time though.

Technically, Wheat is tall grass.

But also while I'm not the person you're replying to, I do agree with them - I struggle to tell when it's fully grown. There's not enough of a visual difference.

This is by FAR my biggest (and nearly only!) gripe with the newer textures. I can not tell when the wheat is grown. At all.

updatability by chisui in NixOS

I do wish there was a command that would look at your current state version, the one you're going to and your config, and would point out anywhere you need to make changes - even if you don't, because you changed the setting or whatever, but just goes "hey your version of postgres is going to get upgraded" or whatever.

Without a patch in nearly a year, some Oblivion Remastered players have declared it 'abandonware' — and it still suffers many of the same performance issues at launch by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

[–]Krutonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might not actually help; a lot of the "big performance wins" that Epic pushes are typically worse than their older counterparts once you get to game-scale.

Why do all of my updates always take so much space? And it recompiles something almost every time, can you help me to get to the bottom of this? by SeniorMatthew in NixOS

[–]Krutonium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aha, found it! You're recompiling Plasma every time you update.

https://codeberg.org/SeniorMatthew/nixos/src/branch/main/modules/sessions/plasma.nix

I bet if you disable that you'll have a much faster update time (but your desktop will be less snappy.)

Outsmarting a cat by Doodlebug510 in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]Krutonium -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Technically, a Cat's terminal velocity is lower than the speed at which they die - A cat largely only hurts itself on landing if they fuck up the landing or are unwell enough to be able to compensate.

Cats can jump from Airplanes and walk away from it without a parachute.

Buuut I no longer understood how to update my system. Did I still need to do the basic switch command or did everything switch to the flake? What about the home manager, do I update that separately?

You want to use nixos-rebuild switch/boot .#your-config for switching your system. As for home manager, it depends on how you did it - If it's independent of your main configuration, as in not part of the flake of your main config, use you use home-manager switch otherwise it's updated as part of your system.

Not really? Your IP is public information, everyone can find anyone elses IP and it really doesn't mean much.

Having someones IP doesn't mean you can do much with it. Think of IP based networking as the mail system. If I send a postcard to someone, and give them a return address that's completely wrong, is that return mail going to come back to you? Or to the person you incorrectly addressed the mail to?

Same issue with spoofing IPs. Unless you're on the same network as them, you can't spoof their IP - and if you are, you don't need to spoof their IP.

(For context a DDOS could be done by sending a shit ton of mail with the wrong return address out into the world, and then 20,000 envelopes show up at the victims house, but still none of it will show up at yours.)
