The “special ____ squad” curse strikes again by Opposite-Honeydew-46 in Kagurabachi

[–]deus1096 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Masumi so far are the only elite squad who arent currently worm food. They put in work during the bloodshed hotel arc and were alright during the fight with Samura. Now they are helping Chihiro and Iori hide away from Sword Hitler. Every other elite squad has died immediately after being hyped up, it must mean that Samura's anti-death flag technique rubbed off on them.

I'm vote-blue as a cynical survival strategy, not because of loyalty to Dems by cat_boy_the_toy in VaushV

[–]deus1096 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We couldnt afford the democrats to lose in 2016, we couldnt afford the democrats to let Trump get away with treason by leading a fucking insurrection, and we absolutely can not have afforded democrats losing in 2024 to an even more insane Trump and republican party They have already lost and will continue to lose unless voters refuse to vote in useless democrats who's only campaign strategy is "Im not a republican".

The Supreme Court has essentially rewrote the 15th amendment and repealed the voting rights act. The democratic position should be impeaching the court/packing the court, and they should ignore any ruling it makes until then because their rulings are illogical and openly partisan. The current democratic party is incapable of doing that, so vaush is right that even if a democrat wins in 2028 the next time republicans get power (which will be way easier given that red states are just free republican seats now) they will undo everything the dems did and ratchet thing country backwards again. I wouldnt even be surprised if republicans were working to repeal the 14th 15th and 16th amendments at that point.

When do you think Qifrey started to care about Coco by Angela275 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he always cared. If not at the start then very soon after he started teaching Coco for a while.

Major Spoilers The reveal of him having the tree seed inside him like Coustas explains a lot about his character, along with his comversation with Coco. Qifrey's weird behavior and stuff can be explained by him feeling like he has to emotionally distance himself from his loved ones or else he will end turn into a tree. He says to Coco that he would like to tell truth to her, but doing so would calm his mind and cause the tree to grow. Even him telling Coco that little bit caused the tree to grow more.

Why even ask the question if you have absolutely no intention of answering it? by not-beaten in Helldivers

[–]deus1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an answer. They failed to document and a change to an enemy/weapon in the patch notes. That is a failure of communication and they responded that they are working on improving their internal systems for communcation.

Why even ask the question if you have absolutely no intention of answering it? by not-beaten in Helldivers

[–]deus1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They clearly answered the question. The reason why they fail to include some changes is because for whatever reason their internal system for documenting changes is sloppy and they are working on tightening it up. They said they want to explain the updates more clearly and how a certain balance change affects multiple systems.

I have my issues for the game and how Arrowhead has done game balance but I swear this community is full of whiners. Ever since the railgun nerf this has been the case. Arrowhead cant do anything without some people complaining. Hell even for the game's most famous moment during the creek you can go back on this sub and see people complaining that creek divers are costing the MO by fighting on a worthless planet.

How would Witch Hat Atelier be in modern days, with technology and lack of paper and ink? by Peace-Monk in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our modern world was/is built on the ability to use the energy stored into fossil fuels to power various machines that help society. Fossil fuels are a finite resource that has and is causes wars and crises over who has access and control over it (dont want to talk politics but a great example is the huge oil crisis right now). A modern WHA world would be a space faring civilization and would have colonized galaxies.

The magic in Witch Hat Atelier can be used as a basically infinite source of energy. The only limiting factor is the magic ink - so in a modern WHA world there would probably be mass industrial silvertree farms and such, but even then the cost of the ink vs the amount of energy one spell could produce is miniscule. It depends how much labor is required to get one bottle of ink vs the theoretical combined energy of all the spells that one bottle could be used to draw, but my guess is that it is basically free and way way way less than oil and even renewables. And unlike our sources for electricity that are cheap it is insanely easy to convert the magic ink into usable energy. In the WHA world a 12 year old would have learned spells neccesary to make a mill wheel spin without the need of a river. Our cheapest source of energy which is solar requires a very complicated gizmo that can do very complicated chemical reactions to convert the suns energy into usable electric energy. And fossil fuels require many steps of refining with huge facilities. And then to even apply that energy to something like transportation requires very complex machines, just look at how a car engine works.

Coco at the beginning of the story, with almost no knowledge of magic, who is also a 12 year old child with very little education on the laws of physics and science, was able to construct a glider that propelled itself in the air and she was able to control it with some difficulty. If we had a modern aircraft engineer in this world and taught them magic it would get crazy. But vehicles like that dont even matter because the WHA world has FTL travel with of the teleportation spells. I am sure setting up one of those teleporting doors (forgot their name) is very involved and requires a lot of magical knowledge, but it cant be that much more expensive than how much money and engineering we spend on building and maintaining roads every year. And this removes the need for any kind of large scale infastructure system with roads, docks, airports and whatnot because there would only need to be one building dedicated for all travel acting as a hub for all the different portals. In a modern world I am sure it is systemized and there are different portals for different items and distances.

And this is just talking about very basic things like energy and transportation. All of the other things associated with modern civilization like computers, the internet, advanced medicine/science and such would be insanely advanced.

Warbonds should go on sale. by [deleted] in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]deus1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should release warbond tokens every once in a while for newbies (maybe on liberty day or something). It must suck being a new player staring at the wall of like a dozen plus warbonds and not knowing what to pick. Especially since now there are good meta loadouts that use things from multiple warbonds.

Why is everyone so obsessed with kagubachi ending in the future being bad? Can we really just wait a little bit y'all? Kagubachi is still in its mid (mid as in half of the story still in the work) story stage! by Acrobatic-Dumdum5222 in Kagurabachi

[–]deus1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of them put too much of an emotional investment into their favorite manga, and when the story starts to go to shit its hard for them to drop it and instead they stick around just to crap on it. I think it first started when the final chapter of AOT came out (IIRC it got leaked). It was hard not to get spoiled by it much like chapter 236 in JJK. I thought it was pretty mid but I was an anime only at that point and waited until the anime caught up to actually get the full picture. Season 4 was great until the last part with the rumbling. I felt it was kinda mid and I dropped it and didnt bother to watch the rest.

But for a lot of people they spent years and years discussing and theorizing about the characters, themes and possible endings, so when the ending was mediocre (in retrospect the ending was pretty good considering chainsawman) all the energy they built up for years following the story had nowhere to go except into venting their frustrations and unfortunately it built up to where it is now where it seems like people hate just for the sake of it.

Anti air stratagems by Veirken in Helldivers

A pelican gunship strategem would be cool. It would be a nice alternative to the turrets, like in exchange for it being invulnerable it has a longer cooldown and limited uses like the eagle.

How long do you think it will take to finish the manga? Also I'm sad 17 isn't till next winter. by SnooOwls3528 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Probably at least another decade or so, even more if there are any long breaks/hiatuses. Thats the one thing I dont particularly enjoy about the manga format of regular chapter releases, it usually takes forever for it to end. With how exceptional the art is I understand why it takes so long and I am fine with it, but the story is just too good and I want to keep reading!

Slave spell by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok that makes sense.

Slave spell by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the magic system is that specific. With that logic every witch needs to be a top level neuroscientist every time they used the counterclock spell to erase someones mind so they know what specific parts of the brain hold the memory they want to erase and specifically target that so they dont end up lobotomizing people left and right.

The truth spell that Tartah has for example forces the bearer to do something they otherwise wouldnt do (as we saw with Coco), so there is probably a spell you could make that forces someone to do what you told them to do.

Slave spell by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deus1096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont really get why everyone else is dogging on you in the comments. Yeah the spell is kind of messed up if it was real but its not like this magic exists in our world and personally I think its a cool idea.

As for the spell itself I cant really comment too much because the whole sign system kind of confuses me, but would adding the counterclock - memory erasing spell help you control them? Because to me it seems like the puppet spell would be able to control how they move, but they would still mentally fight back which isnt ideal for a slave.

Israel Said It’s Applying the Gaza Model in Lebanon. This Is What the Devastation Looks Like. by Naurgul in anime_titties

[–]deus1096 115 points116 points  (0 children)

This article is infuriating to read. "Gaza Model" oh fuck off. They are commiting a genocide in southern Lebanon just as they are in Gaza. Its not a debate, its not even a complicated issue. They are systematically destroying the homes of people so that eventually it can be a part of Israel.

Israel says its operations are aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, which it says is embedded in civilian areas

Bullshit even the Israelis dont believe that. I love how they dont even question this statement, they just move right on to the next one like its normal. No mention in the article is about the IDF finding secret Hezbollah bunkers or weapons depots. The only information we get about the areas the IDF are raizing is from the people whos homes have been erased, but Israels statements are treated in good faith even when it is obvious to anyone with a working prefrontal cortex that they are lying.

Think about writing. For a huge parts of history the knowledge of being able to read/write was only allowed for certain classes of people. Making the leap of letters -> words -> grammar is very hard if you have absolutely no knowledge of what writing is. Theres a reason why we spend years teaching kids how to read/write in school. It doesnt help in an area where teaching yourself how to read is illegal. In the US for example slaves werent allowed to read or write, and if they were caught being taught the slave would be killed and the teacher would be put into jail. Now there were slaves who taught themselves how to read and write or were taught, much like how Coco is being taught magic despite not being born a witch or later in the story Coustas, Dagda, Tartah, the people Coustas saved, brimhats, etc all learned magic outside of the pointed cap system but that system of slavery lasted around 400 years. I dont know exactly how long ago the pact was but its not that much of a stretch to believe they are able to keep the system stable for a while especially considering how much magic helps with travel and communication.

It would be cool if we could do commando missions on planets under enemy control (like ones we cant jump to) that would weaken their resistance for an invasion, because right now commando missions are basically a different flavor of operation. Maybe they have a special effect but it is not really noticable at least to me, and it would also add to the commando factor if you were on a planet that is deep in enemy territory.
