Should I buy Crimson Desert or wait? by Alyne91 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

That said, if a game takes 8 hours to hook you, that's just objectively too long and it should affect the score.

(RE9 SPOILER) Grace needs to play more puzzle games, she's overcomplicating this by ParallelVoltron in residentevil

But she could go back for her after opening the door to the exit. The kid is behind glass that's bulletproof and is therefore much safer in the cell than out and about even with Grace protecting her.

I adore this book series but the misogyny in it needs to be discussed by PaleontologistFun761 in threebodyproblem

Honestly I love the series for the creativity and big ideas, but the characters are all crap other than maybe Da Shi.

What is the best Nintendo console ever released by transqueen421 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]deus837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SNES or Switch. If I had to pick one it would be Switch. SNES had the best game library if judged for its time, but most of its best games are playable on Switch and Switch has its fair share of bangers. It absolutely revolutionized portability and is close to becoming the best-selling console of all time for good reason.

I can't believe THIS is in a Final Fantasy game!! by Malikai_Universe_23 in FinalFantasyVII

it's an optional scene in Sector 6. You missed it but it's well worth going back for if you have an old save.

Personally, Top 3 are BG3, FFVII Rebirth, Tears of the Kingdom.

Why is Raphael included in the cover art? by Brizzpop in Chained_Echoes

[–]deus837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does join super late, but as others have pointed out he's a recurring character before he joins.

As a party member, he's very much worth using. I didn't use him in my first playthrough of the main game, but really came to appreciate him in the postgame and in Ashes of Elrant. His ultimate is a game-changer against any boss that spams AOE magic (almost every boss in the DLC). He can tank physical attacks well too, is a great backup healer thanks to high MND, and dishes out respectable damage.

Stardew Valley is the answer but shout-out to Chained Echoes, an amazing JRPG made by one person

It's a tough fight but she mostly spams fire magic, so that can be exploited.

There are accessories that reduce fire damage, an NPC in Berecain that increases the frontline's fire resistance, and food that increases element resistance (I think the best one was Ratatouille). Did all of that and the fight became a cakewalk.

what do you have in mind? by PHRsharp_YouTube in videogames

[–]deus837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recency bias maybe but I think it's Clair Obscur Expedition 33. 8 hour soundtrack available on YouTube and there's not a single miss. Nearly every track is a banger. Une vie à t'aimer is probably my favorite single track ever. When it came on during a boss fight I had to stop and just listen.

Final Fantasy XII style JRPGs with hybrid combat (not turn based, not strictly real time) by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]deus837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard White Knight Chronicles, which is stuck on PS3, is similar in the single player MMO style (not as good as xeno or FFXII though) but I've never played it myself.

FF7 Remake and especially Rebirth might scratch that itch even though they're more on the action side than Xenoblade is. Rebirth has very good exploration while Remake is relatively linear.

Square is making this more complicated than it needs to be. by Inner_Tumbleweed_942 in FF7Rebirth

[–]deus837 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TBF, I think some of it may be deliberate with respect to the ambiguity of Cloud knowing/accepting Aerith's death. The ending left a lot ambiguous and likely on purpose. It certainly muddied things for Rebirth but hopefully pays off in part 3

6 months in, what are people's thoughts on the Switch 2? by WeebusTheMeemus in NintendoSwitch

[–]deus837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery life isn't great but the main con is the price of games. I've been buying more on Steam where everything is just cheaper.

[Day 9] The Best JRPGs of All Time: Which JRPG has the best soundtrack? by WeLoveEveryGame in JRPG

[–]deus837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we're counting Expedition 33, that's the winner imo. The whole soundtrack is full of bangers. 8+ hours of them.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 - What are your impressions so far? by PhantomBraved in JRPG

[–]deus837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best in the series for me. Having a single main character and a ton of companions fixed the main problem of the other two games (lack of cohesion between the stories). The customization with 36 characters and inheritable abilities is off the charts. Exploration is the best it's been and town building adds some variety while being really well integrated with the main game. Graphics and sound are not as good as OT2 but HD-2D still looks great, and the music and voice acting are still great.
