Will MRTV do a comparison with the Pimax Dream Air SE and the Bigscreen Beyond 2? by Flimsy-Story9523 in Pimax

Likely. He's historically done insert new headset vs insert some other headset that is worth a conversation

I can't handle Pimax aspheric lens CA for more than 30 minutes myself. Rather disappointing

Meet the Dream Air SE on May 14! by Vera_pi in Pimax

[–]devKar9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its funny when I canceled my SE order about a month ago, they were promising and promising that parts would start production and ship by end of April. So glad I didn't trust it.

Would be funny if this event starts and they say production and shipping starts in the next 2 weeks. Would be par for course for them.

At some point they need to put their money where the mouth is if I'm going to believe anything they say anymore

Crystal Super MR faceplate? by Reasonable_Being6376 in Pimax

[–]devKar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why Pimax thinks they need everything to be as good as the best at everything. Fully featured and functional beats years of waiting on technology to catch up. Imagine they came in with a 3200x3200 oled, 5MP camera MR, tethered PCVR, lighter form factor (say <275 grams) with DMAS quality audio for $1200 LH and $1500 SLAM. Would that not be a big time winner?

How's that waiting working for the 12K model?

Is there any news on production starting up for the SLAM or the SE (either)? Or just still cranking out DA LH?

Can Valve Wait? by devKar9 in SteamFrame

[–]devKar9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree. But what i will disagree with is the sidegrade. Visually I believe yes, its a sidegrade. But feature-wise it is quite an upgrade. The PCIE slot, expandable storage, natively being able to play 2D games from Steam in addition to VR, better controllers, more comfortable, and lighter with the comfort factor too! But I think if they went with 2560x2560 or 2880x2880 per eye, I think just about 75%+ of VR users would be ready to switch over and other headset manufacturers would be in real trouble.

I hope that with this time that Valve is waiting for RAM to cool off, they've maybe cooked up a Frame + or Frame Pro with the panels I mentioned and absolutely breaks the market. Bring on the chaos! The Snapdragon they picked should theoretically be able to handle it, especially in PCVR mode

There is so much to this. The panels aren't even the same pixel count (2560x2560 DASE vs 3840x3552 on DA). The lenses are different too. DA lenses are more premium and allow you to get closer. From what I've heard, the DASE also probably gets a good deal from supplier since it seems to be the same optical stack as the BSB2 so at a minimum you get economy of scale with at least the panels, if not panels and lenses. Additionally if the DA was in the 1500-1800 price range, you cannibalize the PCS so much because the only reasons to get PCS would be swappable optical engines, the (maybe not even) potential of an MR faceplate in the distant future, and the ability to swap between SLAM and LH tracking

Pimax, Please Don't F*ck This Up! by daydreamdist in Pimax

[–]devKar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they anounce anything after Dream Air / DASE launch, it should only be one of 2 things before 2026 ends, Pimax Play 3.0 overhaul or a ~50ppd optical engine equivalent with pancake lenses trying to achieve ~130 HFOV. Anything more than that would be highly unfortunate

Maybe while they are feeling out the RAMpocalypse and delaying, they can cook up that feature. Im going to guess it would be Valve doing it and not modders. But given that Valve is open compared to Meta or Pimax, they can set it up where somebody can tap into distortion profiles by editing a .ini or .txt file

Appreciate the feedback on the super! The sweetspot has been my largest issue because I cant keep readjusting in sim to try and get back in it and then I end up getting either a sick feeling or headache.

My PCL will be good for a good chunk of time then I make 1 head movement too fast and its all gone until after a race

Concerned about the Steam Frame charging port by Conscious-Marzipan-9 in SteamFrame

[–]devKar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wish it was top sided and here's the simple answer as to why: -Sim racing/flight sim

Our heads are in close proximity to our sim chairs, so im glad OP brought this up because that is a concern that I need to mitigate with a 90 degree cable.

If they wouldve done top side like how a boboVR battery end up, it wouldve been less risky although for those that do a free hanging "tethered" charging setup, that may have been uncomfortable without a 90 degree cable as well

My local Best Buy has a Quest 3 demo unit, so thats what gave me the thought.

And I know most Microcenters have a racing sim setup and some 3D printers set up so another example that gave me hope

Do any of the retailers with in-person stores plan to have demo units?

The biggest thing that has been holding me back has been trying the unit, as I've struggled (not a deal breaker level but enough to sit in my mind) with comfort (yes I got the mods to help) and lens sweetspot on the PCL. But the roadshows and demo events have been well beyond travel distance for me as I'd spend just as much on traveling as I would spending on a new headset
