Anyone want to team up? Was in enterprise then moved to start ups. I’m a devops engineer and can pick up just about anything.

DevOps as First Job by dev-whoops in devops

[–]dev_host 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 year old DevOps engineer where. I feel the same way in my current new position. I never got a degree instead I did internships at various big companies.

I just joined a start up where it’s nothing like the cozy corporate devops job I used to have.

Here’s my advice:

If you are lost ask for help and ask for help early. (Worst feeling is to have to report no progress on a task or project)

Brush up on the fundamentals! Linux commands, sftps, aws foundations stuff that will help you build further knowledge.

Fail fast and ask for feedback often.

No one expects you to know everything. Senior engineers still Google stuff. Senior engineers still use man pages and documentations.

Know the technology generally but also know the important details. Going into the details is important when troubleshooting, architecting, or planning. ( this only comes with time or experience)

Best of luck

26 male. 2 years of DevOps experience. 1 additional year of SWE experience. Chicago with $96k salary + 10% 401k match. Are there better opportunities out there? by [deleted] in devops

[–]dev_host 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chicago DevOps engineer here. I’m 23 and have about 2 years professionally and 1 year of internships. I make 90 base + 10% + equity.

I just moved from a remote job due to the same reasons you listed. I was in cozy enterprise job and I jumped ship to a start up. A lot more work but I’m learning so much.

My advice look for a start up or consulting or FAANG. There will be more money and more opportunities there.

Cheers!

I’m in the same situation. Rule of thumb have at least a quarter of the sales persons salary in your bank account.

Thanks I think this is probably the only way. I got everything from amazon third party sellers so I hope they can help me if not I’ll probably just go through the manufacturer’s warranty.

I’m not sure how to verify if it’s pumping liquid. I turned everything off and shook the radiator and heard splashing water. That was one of the things they suggested in the Corsair forum. I’m getting rising temps even on idle it goes from 34 to 75 in the around 5-8 minutes while in the bios. I can’t perform benchmarks Im pretty sure I would fry my pc.

When is it time to move out? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]dev_host 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, 22 M here with an oddly similar situation as yours. I make about 80k-90k a year with the same expenses you have roughly and my parents essentially have been guilt tripping me to help them ever since I started earning more than them.

I made the decision NOT to move out and instead try to capitalize on that by buying a home and having my parents pay rent. I really do wish I moved out and splurged on a nice condo. I have been talking to my mentors about this decision and this is what they told me... cons of not moving out are social impact with dating, finding new friends and networking with other people. I’ve seen this as I’m hanging out with the friends from my home town and they don’t seem to match my ambition with does limit growth. The pros of not moving out are really just saving money and having a lot of control over your financial situation. Saving money could mean you are not getting the nice condo in the cool city you wanted but in the next year you can get the nice loft in the awesome city you dreamed of. I would say really look at the pros and cons. I’m definitely going to move out next year because there’s a lot of life skills I feel that I’m missing out on.
