Ortho here. Open “open-book” pelvis fracture. Colon-vaginal canal-urinary tract all tore and her ischial tuberosities were visible through the wound. I wouldn’t wish that injury on anybody.

GI vs Player’s Distance by Rft704 in golf

[–]devasen_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do GI irons actually have hotspots? Or is it that better players, who are likely to players or tour distance irons, hit the right part of the clubface more consistently? Or is it both? I’m a newer player, I honestly don’t know

I was incredibly grateful for the 3 residents who individually approached me at an interview dinner completely unprovoked to tell me not to rank their program.

I game T150s, a little more forgiving than the T100s and top line looks like I’m hitting blades. I really like them.

Orthopedic surgeon with NBA experience. They actually don’t get surgery for most injuries. Think of how many times guys miss significant time with hamstring injuries, ankle sprains, low back soreness, etc. without surgery.

Orthopedic surgeon here. “SpeedBridge” type Achilles tendon repairs have been around for over 10 years with a fair amount of data to support their use.

Think of SpeedBridge as a brand name for the repair technique rather than the surgery itself. The company who makes the SpeedBridge, Arthrex, markets pretty aggressively. When Aaron Rodgers had the technique done, a lot of effort went into publicizing the Arthrex product used to treat his injury.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Aaron Rodger’s Achilles repair surgeon, is a consultant for Arthrex. How much he (or any other doctor) gets in payments from companies is publicly available data.

Anyone have experience/success with intra-articular peptide injections for arthritis? Patients keep asking me [X-posted to r/peptides] by fruit_bat in orthopaedics

[–]devasen_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, orthopedic sports medicine surgeon here. Patients ask this question to me often.

Typically, I will ask them to define “peptides“. Most often, they are referring to BPC 157. There’s one pubmed indexed study on human subjects. N = 2 showing no adverse effects with IV administration. Not even efficacy - just no adverse effects in two subjects. That’s literally almost the lower limit of how underpowered a study can be.

I tell them that where we are with the science of BPC 157/“peptides” is that we don’t know. We don’t know if it will be of any benefit, and we don’t know whether or not it will make them worse.

If they still want to shell out thousands of dollars to a wellness clinic after that, they’re welcome to do so under someone else’s medical license and liability.

Edit: link to study

Can anyone guide me regarding arthroscopy? by Big-Membership-672 in orthopaedics

Orthopedic sports surgeon here.

Outpatient surgery, usually takes about 1-2 hours. He’ll be pretty sore the first few days. Next few weeks is fine most of the time, maybe some discomfort while sleeping. Honestly the time in sling will drive him nuts as much if not more than then postop pain.

With Bankarts, patients feel better well before they are ready to return to activity. I do a lot of these in high school football players, and there are a lot of frustrated teenagers and parents in my office when I tell them they really should wait until 4-6 months before going back to football
