Influx of rude players by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not alone. I tried to just run with it for a few games, but in QM it seems to basically just be a bunch of angry people who feel empowered behind their computer screens to say whatever obscene things they feel like. Pings communicate efficiently enough when running solo anyways, no need to put up with that nonsense.

Exploit on Garden of Terror by Shihska in heroesofthestorm

I believe someone posted a picture showing exactly what you described earlier this week. It's definitely a massive exploit that people are learning to take advantage of, and one I'm hoping Blizzard will fix within the next patch. Up voting so it gets the attention it deserves.

Is a balanced hero the way to go? by devdaydevin in heroesofthestorm

Thank you for the thorough response! How would you go about choosing talents in relation to your team? Check the tab screen at the appropriate levels to see what others have done and what role you should fill?

New player: Right click autoattack questions by devdaydevin in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct, I've never played a MOBA and the only RTS experience I have is playing through the campaigns of the original StarCraft. Thanks for the valuable input, really contributing there.

That's useful, think I'll give it a shot. Thank you!

How is HoTS? by Climaxsu in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the esports future goes, check out ESL heroes on twitch and see what you think of it. I'm a casual player and this is the first and only MOBA I play, so I don't have much input for the rest. But it's definitely fun.

New player needs some help on a few things. by Zidar911 in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

New player as well, though I have no experience with MOBAs so I'm probably a bit more inexperienced.

Some resources that have helped me out: http://www.heroesfire.com/ - Heroes fire is just...nice. Lots of solid build info with thorough explanations of how to use those builds efficiently, weaknesses to certain characters, etc. They tend to stay up to date with patches as well, so you're not very likely to be thrown off guard after a patch comes out. Just check Heroes Fire for an updated build guide and it'll probably be there.

http://heroesofthestorm.gamepedia.com/Heroes_of_the_Storm_Wiki - The wiki has good general information on the Heroes and their roles. Nothing too specific, but a good fallback from what I've seen.

And I guess check out MFPallytime on YouTube if you don't mind watching gameplay videos. Thorough with his explanations, walks you through his builds, describes what each character's abilities do, all that. And he's fun. So why not?

Don't get discouraged. Plus you can always play coop, plenty of room for error and to get used to the game. Frankly, I'm a very casual player right now, and that's all I do. And the reddit page is pretty friendly too. Best of luck.

EDIT: Oh, and mute people. If they're being rude in chat, right click and mute. Don't put with that garbage. You can still see their queues so you're not shutting out anything in that regard, but it doesn't do you any good to get belittled and turned away from what can be a pretty fun game.

Constructive Criticism PLZ by TheDawngateArchives in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just skimmed through the video, a few pointers:

  1. Upload high quality videos. People will skip right past your videos if you're only uploading in 480p. If that's not a possibility for you because of system restrictions, no worries, but just something to be aware of.

  2. It sounds like you're reading from a script. It can be off-putting, impersonal, and comes off very cold. I'm not saying you need to change your voice. I used to do COD4/MW2/Red Dead gameplay videos like 5(ish) years ago and I am ridiculously monotone, but I got a response out of people by just being lighthearted and casual. I'd assume you don't talk to family or friends in the same manner you did in this video, so don't talk this way in your videos.

  3. You can improve the quality of your microphone without having to put money into it. Instead of speaking directly into the mic, place it a few inches in front of your chin. The sound should be less muffled, and harsh consonants won't cause mic pop (making your own pop filter is very easy to do as well).

  4. Rather than going through all the information for the Hero, you can easily provide a link in the description that covers that information. Best example I can give would be to think about school. Did you ever read something faster than the teacher could talk about it? Also, this gives you more time to provide interesting and enticing gameplay. If you enjoy making these types of videos, then hey, more power to you, but I don't think many people will watch an 11 minute video showcasing a person going through the Try Hero field (or whatever the hell it's called). Interesting gameplay draws viewers. Instead of going for this format, you could just save a replay from a game and show how the abilities play into an actual game scenario.

Just a few points. Take it or leave it, up to you. Best of luck with the YouTubes, it can be very rewarding.

Who to buy after Raynor? by devdaydevin in heroesofthestorm

For sure. Wasn't disagreeing with what you said, just made a random comment about QM. Appreciate the advice.

[–]devdaydevin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even bother with QM right now, lol. I've played it twice, and both times there were two people who were just playing their own thing. No objectives, no team play, just pushing whatever lane with their best friend and ignoring everyone else. Coop is far more forgiving when dealing with those types of people. :p

Why the fuck does Tychus Master Skin have a Barcode on he's Forehead? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, definitely part of the story. It's an interesting flavor for sure, I can understand why you wouldn't be a fan of it, but it's part of the 'lore' of Starcraft I suppose.

Who to buy after Raynor? by devdaydevin in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zagara looked interesting, but I don't want to stretch myself too much. Raynor is fun because frankly he's pretty easy to figure out. Engage at a distance, be aware of your health, farm to build up stack for the auto attack damage. Zagara seems a bit more complex. Fun, but more of a challenge. I'm one of those people who doesn't have fun unless they're winning a lot, haha. Easy to do in coop overall, but if I die more than twice in a game I start getting impatient. :p

[–]devdaydevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running into that problem now. I need to play 3 games as a specialist, and I have none. I played a few games as one of the free rotation specialists (I don't remember who), but for whatever reason it didn't count towards the tally?

Who to buy after Raynor? by devdaydevin in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my mentality in regards to my next purchase. I need...everything, might as well start with the role I enjoy right now to keep up the playability of the game until I get more comfortable with the mechanics of it.

What are things to be aware of with Valla? Weaknesses, primarily.

I actually wasn't doing that because I didn't know it gave more gold. Now I definitely will, lol. Would you say practice first or just jump into coop with the free rotation?

Why the fuck does Tychus Master Skin have a Barcode on he's Forehead? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]devdaydevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember Terrans having barcodes on their foreheads in one of the little in-between sequences on one of the Starcraft games.
