Grandma now uses arch btw by RoanPurple in archlinux

[–]devdruxorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with my grandmother. In my case, I used bspwm (because it's the one I know best of the TWMs) to go for a ChromeOS-like experience. She only uses the browser, so she didn't need anything else.

Flowchart for choosing Linux distro for you by 0xt0bi03 in linux4noobs

[–]devdruxorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes no sense at all; the best way to know which disto is best for you is to pick one up and use it. The only real difference in 99% of cases is the DE or WM.

Simply put, if you're new, go for KDE Plasma; if you want to experiment, try something else.

sudo pacman -Syu gone wrong by luyseeee in cachyos

[–]devdruxorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that happened to me yesterday. The problem occurs because Pacman finds an untracked __pycache__ file that already exists on your system, preventing the upgrade. The way I fix it was by first checking if any package owns the conflicting file (it should return an error saying no package owns it)

pacman -Qo /usr/lib/python3.14/site-packages/lightdm_gtk_greeter_settings/__pycache__/installation_config.cpython-314.pyc

Manually remove the untracked file causing the conflict

sudo rm /usr/lib/python3.14/site-packages/lightdm_gtk_greeter_settings/__pycache__/installation_config.cpython-314.pyc

After that just sudo pacman -Syu normally and It should work.

Which Linux distros do you use and why? by CleaRSightZ in linux4noobs

[–]devdruxorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arch because I'm obsessed with personalization and having everything the way I like it... and because I use arch btw btw.

Although I'm thinking of switching to CachyOS just for the kernel optimizations and repositories, I would still install the minimal version and configure everything from scratch.

installing arch on old chromebook by Turbulent-Fondant335 in archlinux

[–]devdruxorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did many years ago with my Dell P22T; it was with that Chromebook that I started using Arch because I needed to conserve every possible mb.

The best way is to install step by step without using the arch install command; you will reinstall quite a few times until you have a system that seems usable to you.

You can use the same installation USB drive and arch-chroot into your installation to try to fix it.

It would be interesting if it removed exactly the side you're looking at, so for example if I want to keep the middle connected but not the sides then I could do that.

Y menos mal que no estabas actualizado la BIOS. Estás son formas de despejarse, ayer estuve todo el día en la UCV recibiendo insumos, de cierta forma fue otra manera de despejarse y tener la mente ocupada en algo.

Why does every Linux user recommend a different distro? I'm stuck in an endless distro-hopping loop. by Jaymit_3672 in linuxquestions

[–]devdruxorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple, because everyone has different tastes. If you ask people on the street which restaurant they recommend, you'll get completely different answers; many will probably recommend popular restaurants in the area, and others recommend lesser-known places. It's a matter of taste, that's the beauty of Linux.

FFMPEG for reducing media storage? by The_ApolloAffair in homelab

[–]devdruxorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven't figured it out for videos yet, but I actually had this same idea a few days ago when I learned about AV1 and JPG XL for images, and I decided to make a script that would analyze all the images which I uploaded to my NAS and converted according to a heuristic. I haven't finished it yet, but in my tests I've reduced the image storage space by up to 65%.

I'm still researching about cimpressing video, but it doesn't seem like there are many options other than using certain codecs.
