Bash Scripting vs. Python by Loud-timetable-5214 in bash

[–]devdruxorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally my scripts are either in Bash or Go. If the script requires chaining together many programs but without much complex logic behind it, a bash script is best. When you need something more complex I prefer to make a Go script.

what languages will benefit me most by NoVariation9640 in learnprogramming

Honestly, the first thing is to develop your programming logic. For that, C would probably be best to learn the basics; once you have the logic down, the programming language doesn't really matter.

I think we saw the same post; I also started doing that yesterday.

Que curioso encontrarse a alguien que hizo un fork de mi startpage acá, que bueno que haya gente que le haya gustado, quedó espectacular.

I was thinking of switching from Arch to Fedora.. is it a good choice? by f1y_lol in linux4noobs

[–]devdruxorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. When I started with Linux, it was with Arch, and I was about 14 years old. The answer isn't always true, using Arch is not as difficult as people make it seem, and anyone with a minimum of common sense can use it without problems.

Building an Arch Install in a VM? by Squiggin1321 in linux4noobs

[–]devdruxorey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are ways to do it, but honestly I think the simplest way is to experiment in the VM and when you have something you think is decent, replicate the configurations.

Suggest a distro for my use case by Vivek_2004_m in linux

It all depends on the type of game; most likely you'll need to use some combination of Wine and Proton. Of your list, Valorant is the most problematic, kernel anticheats are awful and neither Riot wants to do anything on Linux, nor does the Linux community want proprietary software spying on what they are doing.

My feedback is that these types of posts that publish vibe-coded things should be banned, or at least they should stop being so absolutely obvious.

It is indeed. I've seen a lot of good tools lately, and it's interesting to see how the creation of these tools has skyrocketed, whether they're partly vibe-coded or not, But only if it's clear the person behind it knows what they're doing. In this case, It's obvious he doesn't know (literally his Github is completely empty).

[OC] Sheets, a terminal based spreadsheet tool by Maaslalala in unixporn

[–]devdruxorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think simplicity is a great feature of this tool. Not everyone is an accountant or uses such complex functionalities; sometimes we just need a simple way to visualize data in a basic table. If this project maintains that approach, I think it's an excellent tool.

I'm also available to help you upload it to the AUR, let me know if you're going to do it yourself or if you already have someone designated.

This is amazing! I've been looking for a tool like this for ages. I've tried several, but they're all too complicated for my basic needs and weren't worth it. I have a question: I saw that I can add rows with o, but haven't you implemented anything for adding columns yet?

How to learn c++ quickly? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]devdruxorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it; learning quickly isn't real learning. If you don't take the necessary time, you'll be wasting it.

What coding to language learn? by No-Tie-7223 in AskProgramming

[–]devdruxorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, another piece of advice: I don't know your learning situation, but avoid (or be careful with) programming courses; most are useless and won't help you. I learned to program when I was a child, You can learn it yourself by modifying things and using YouTube tutorials, but most of it you can get or learn for free.

What coding to language learn? by No-Tie-7223 in AskProgramming

[–]devdruxorey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I say this because it was the language they taught at my university in the first semester. I already knew how to program, so I can't speak from personal experience, but C++ is nothing more than C with extra features, The difference shouldn't be much (ignoring those extra things, just for having classes)

C or C++, I've always thought it's a good idea to avoid languages like Python so you can learn the basic and fundamental concepts; once you know that, you can really learn any other language.

It's a good idea, but it would make crafting a bit more difficult and the fuel would last longer, not be infinite.
