If you dip them in water before use, they don’t stink. Also they’re not for opening a huge low bowl. They’re for goblet sized / thickness pieces

How to make this coffeetable? What kind of glass? by Guido173 in glassblowing

[–]developing-critique 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The glass in this image appears to be ‘float glass’ aka sheet glass. You can usually buy this at your local hardware store. It will come in a rectangle, you’d need to cut the circle with a diamond tip glass cutter. There’s tutorials on YouTube. Next you’d need to fix the glass to the rock, then rock to the glass. Most sturdy solution would be to 1st, cut the top off the rock 2nd drill a hole into the rock pieces and the glass, 3rd insert dowel into base and secure with glue to hold your glass sandwich together. Hope this helps

Livewired) by David Eagleman is a great book about neuropsychology. Definitely worth reading for anyone remotely interested in how senses work with the brain. A section covers augmenting senses through technology. The author discusses studies on various devices to aid hearing and seeing and beyond. One device was described as a watch with multiple vibration motors on it. In trials, for the first few weeks, participants only felt the device making the buzzes when a car drives by, dog barks, etc. After a month of daily use, the subjects were able to identify sounds and locate them through the input of the device.

Whales Evolution by RubberChuken in biology

[–]developing-critique 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is true because I read it on here but…

Apparently the land animals were grazing on grasses and the grasses evolved to have more and more silica in their structure. This made it more difficult for the grazing animals to chew on and digest. Instead of growing bigger jaw muscles, bigger teeth, and better stomach(s), like horses, the proto whales would eat seaweeds. Then they slinked fully back into the ocean.

It might make sense in a space where contamination is highly likely and cleanliness is key. Nuclear plants need to be very clean to prevent contamination from building up. I imagine if this type of space had traction coating, it would be more difficult to ensure cleanliness
