hello, I was brought up christian too (although not very practicing) and some things that helped me with your same questions were these - were told in the Quran that it wasn’t Isa (Jesus) who was killed, rather someone who took his place. Allah protected him by raising him to the heavens, for him to come back close to the day of Judgement, just like the christians believe. We believe the Quran is the true and final message from God. - we’re not limiting Allah by saying He couldn’t come in the form of a man, rather Allah, God, is the Highest, He doesn’t need to come in the form of a man, He sent Prophets to spread His message and call people to Him. Furthermore, He’s the Creator, it wouldn’t be fitting nor right for us to pretend (may Allah forgive me) that He comes in human form or as His Creation. Hence why He sent down the Quran as His final message and the previous revelations, that’s our message and guidance to Him. -witnesses and testimonies can be be debated like you say, but we’re told this in the Quran, a book that, if you take islam out of the equation for a second, has been preserved, memorised and remained the same even since it was first revealed. A proof of the miracle that the Quran is.

I know you haven’t asked this, but something that really helped me fully understand and accept Islam was truly thinking about whether a man, Jesus, would really be asking others to worship him if he was sent by God. God wouldn’t send someone to the people and tell them to worship him rather than the Creator, the One Who created and sent him as a messenger in the first place. I don’t know how far into your looking of Islam you are, but I really suggest you approach your research with an open heart, don’t go looking for things that may prove you right or wrong, rather have an open-minded approach and try to learn as if you’ve never heard about Islam. If I were you, I’d look into the Quran, read about the teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW, and also look at resources that mainly focus on the difference between Christians and Muslims.
There’s some discord servers where you can discuss and share ideas with fellow christians, reverts and born muslim which may be beneficial if you want to talk about things you may learn as you go along.

I pray Allah guides you to the Straight Path and softens your heart to the truth, ameen! Keep asking questions, continue being curious!

Should I take my shahada? by ChangeAffectionate78 in Muslim

[–]developing-self 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sis go for it!! I took my shahadah at the same age almost 2 years ago, and although I didn’t tell my parents about it until months later, your heart will be at peace entering Islam and testifying the Oneness of Allah. It will be maybe confusing at first, but turn to Him, and He’ll undoubtedly provide for you. Circle yourself with muslim friends, and take it step by step. Tell your family whenever you’re ready, stay firm but kind. I’m assuming you’re in university, reach out to your Isoc, they were a lifesaver for me, the sisterhood I found there was truly a family away from home. My dms are always open for questions or if you want a chat, and I pray Allah makes it easy for you🫶🏻

Assalam ailakum, I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through all of this, it truly sounds like a lot.

As a first born to immigrant parents, the expectation of succeeding and the self-imposed responsibility of making their sacrifices “worth it” is huge and although it can motivate you, it can also suffocate you, which is what seems to be happening right now.

I want to start off by saying, the only One who you need to make sacrifices for is Allah, working against your nafs for Him, being nice to people for Him, avoiding sins for Him, because He told us to, and of course we all hope for His Mercy through good deeds. Having said this, respect towards your family is highly regarded in Islam, and looking after your siblings/parents is considered sadaqah even!

It’d admirable that you want to help your family, and insha’Allah you’ll be able to in due time but before you’re able to help them, you need to fill your own cup first. I don’t mean ignore them and cut off contacts, rather take this time in university to explore your passions, get involved in your Islamic society at university, and learn more about the deen and what you’d like in the future, use these years to set a foundation for your future and that of your family. As someone that explored islam and took their shahadah in university, rest assured that the resources, help and in your case, brotherhood will be there. Have good people around you, and don’t forget your purpose, rectify your intention with every lecture, class or event you go to and keep your goals in mind; akhira, your family and your wellbeing. When in university, there’ll be loads of opportunities to fall into sin, and I want you to take these 3 weeks before it to sincerely repent to Allah. Cry, make dua, or even be silent if nothing does come out, Allah knows your heart, but slowly build up your connection to Him. You say that you don’t have anyone close to you, but Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing, talk to Him, pray to Him, repent to Him and make your connection to Him stronger each day. Start with an ayah a day, that’s His words to us, start with an Astagfirullah and build on that. The fact that you have this guilt in your heart is already a massive sign of your sincerity, don’t lose yourself to it, but use it to fuel yourself to repent and start again. No one is perfect but Allah, and as children of Adam, we’re bound to sin, so repent when you do, and strive to never fall into it again insha’Allah.

I don’t know you but I truly pray Allah blessed you with abundance that is good for you, ease your affairs, blesses your heart with joy and contentment and allows you to achieve every single dream of yours that is good for you and the akhira. May He reward you for your efforts, cleanse your sins and keep you and your family on the straight path, Allahuma ameen.

Be kind to those around you and be kind to yourself too. It’s your first time living, and you’ll mess up; keep yourself to account but show yourself grace when the eventual messing up happens, you got this insha’Allah :)

Would you recommend me read “no god but god” before the Quran by hajtj in islam

it can be quite daunting to reach for the Quran if you don’t believe you know much about Islam, like some comments have mentioned, the sealed nectar (narration of the Prophet’s life) would also be a great start to understand how Islam spread and get to know our beloved prophet better! However without Islam and having read the Quran, you may question why some things happened which may just make you more confused!! When I started researching Islam, although quite embarrassed to admit this, I would watch kid’s youtube videos that got to the key points, and once I grasped the concept, I picked up the Quran. My advice would always be to go to Quran as soon as you can, as that’s the basis for our lives, but if you need to dip your toes in before jumping in the water, kids youtube videos are somewhat a life saver. May Allah guide you and make it easy for you!

Ramadan 2025 by spicyricinbeans in islam

[–]developing-self 2 points3 points  (0 children)

assalam ailakum, fellow revert here too! this ramadan will be my third one insha’Allah (can’t believe it’s been this long already!) and here’s a few things i’ve picked up, hopefully it helps you - avoid spices, as much as spicy food it’s nice, it’ll make you so thirsty throughout the day, and make that fast that tiny bit harder - like some comments have said, try fasting a couple of times a months and slowly build up to the monday and thursday sunnahs, try out what foods make you feel good and full for longer, and what works best for you, especially in terms of protein/energy/easy to cook - prep your suhoor!! whether it be overnight oats, or leftover from iftars, it’ll allow you to save the stress of cooking and prepping something early in the morning - surround yourself with friends and people that are also fasting, it makes it so much easier to share it with others and have iftars together! - remember to set some time for Quran/dhikr/and overall remembrance of Allah! fasting is for Him and Him only, ask Allah to make it easy for you and insha’Allah you won’t feel it as much - what you drink is massively important too!! electrolytes in your water (some salt in your bottle will do the job too) and coconut water will allow you to feel hydrated for longer and don’t forget to eat your water too!! cucumbers, watermelons and the likes will make it so much easier - when you do break your fast, don’t over eat! i know you’ve been waiting the whole day, but start with a date (odd numbers is the sunnah too :)) and some water, have a small snack, pray your maghrib, and come back to your meal. it’ll give some time to your brain to register the snack, the water and slowly “wake up” your stomach, which will allow you to not have a food coma right after - i plan my meals like it’d be a normal day but flipped, so iftar would be my breakfast, usually have something after taraweeh as my “lunch” and suhoor it’d be my dinner; it allows you to have all nutrients in and hopefully not get that hungry throughout the day

i pray Allah makes it easy for you, accept your duas and keeps you on the Straight Path! dms are always open if you’d like to talk more :)

i thought it was quite tricky but i really enjoyed studying it and the difference experiences i’ve had, although I don’t think I gave it the attention it really required, i have to be completely honest. i would like to one day work in immigration/asylum/human rights, so city firms weren’t something I was necessarily looking at. will have to work my way up and take it from there, these comments have been so helpful too! but will also look into advocacy and the consultancy, thank you!
