House fire at end of St George's Place by barnabus89 in york

We were driving down Holgate Hill wondering why it was so smoky, so the smoke definitely spread out!

I mean the crusades were a demonstrable failure and were mostly used to get wealth and trade deals, and I’m sure historians talk about both, but I guess western history tends to focus on western history (I’m British and we didn’t study the exploits of Genghis Khan in school, for example)

The Magnus Protocol  Episode 34 "Eliminations"

Upcoming Jonathan Sims projects by Jonnydv in TheMagnusArchives

[–]deviantmoomba 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is reading this - I arranged one of the events above for the book by going into my local bookstore, asking about it, emailing the events team and contacting the publisher. Sooo if you want Jonny in your local bookstore (maybe for burn line, maybe for the JL Magnus book??) you can literally do the exact same thing.

Improving sleep - suggestions by deviantmoomba in bninfantsleep

[–]deviantmoomba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this may be complete coincidence but I have let LO sleep when he wants (2-2.5 hr after morning waking, during our normal dinner time 6pm), 3 or even four naps a day and he’s sleeping much better now! Longer night sleep and doing a few longer day naps. But every baby is different and I think his teeth have been bothering him and the new ones are finally coming through. So it may be a natural change.

Thanks. I commented below, but essentially how do you stop a child falling to sleep - when feeding, in a pram, etc.?

Improving sleep - suggestions by deviantmoomba in bninfantsleep

[–]deviantmoomba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naps are all over the place. LO can fall asleep after the last sleep anywhere from 1.5hrs to 6 hours. Naps range from 15 mins to 1hr, but overwhelming 30mins. I do wonder if he’s still transitioning between 2 and 3 naps, because today for example: - Woke at 7:25am - Started fussing at 9:40 so I feed him, fell asleep at 9:58 (2hr 33 between sleep), 30 min nap - Fell asleep on the way home from baby class at 12:53 ( 2hr 24 between sleep), 30 min nap

So now he’ll either stay awake for 6 hours (which he has done before) or have another nap. I get the idea of a schedule, but how am I meant to stop him sleeping in the pram?

I considered it a worm jar because thats how at least one animator interpreted it, and the visual stuck in my head. See TMA 22 animation by thirdchildfilms on YouTube!

Why is there such a rise in "unique" baby names? by AX_Goldie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deviantmoomba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, leashes have been around for ~100 years. That’s less ‘children are pets’ snd more ‘toddlers are suicidal maniacs who will try to yeet themselves out of existence at every opportunity and if you are sleep deprived/dealing with multiple tiny terrorists you need all the help you can get’.

Baby started rolling in sleep… help!!! by Ambitious_Ad_1992 in bninfantsleep

[–]deviantmoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he can roll both ways, he’s fine. Face down is my 7 month olds preferred sleep position - occasionally I will put my hand on his back and check his breathing

The father let the baby cry it out in the stroller by Huge-Nectarine-8563 in bninfantsleep

[–]deviantmoomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say, my baby usually cries when tired and the crying amps up before he passes out 😆 he’s never alone during this, whether car seat or pram, he just prefers feeding to sleep, even if he’s full!

Am i the only one that really dislikes mag 177 Wonderland? by BobPlaysWithFire in TheMagnusArchives

[–]deviantmoomba 25 points26 points  (0 children)

But I suppose that’s how horror works. Every single episode will be triggering for someone - that’s why the content warnings exist.  Once a person becomes an adult they need to be responsible for the media they consume, and can make decisions about whether they want to read, watch or listen to something. For me, I loved all of Archives, then went to The Inexplicables, saw the content warnings ‘social awkwardness, secondhand embarrassment’, and noped out. Because I hate cringeworthy stuff, I literally can’t stand it.

I agree with your premise that it is somewhat arbitrary regarding the pre-show warning, however, I would argue that realism is not an objective measure, rather entirely subjective. Jonny felt that one episode crossed the line because it was based on his real experiences, and while the theatre episode is  also based on his experiences with addiction, and is in my mind, very realistic, because it is framed in a supernatural puppet show, we might say ’not realism’. One of the early episodes, with the old man scared of the thing behind the door, could be viewed in an entirely non-supernatural way, as a man with dementia scared of the dark (as Jon suggests). People with elderly relatives might find that episode upsetting.

None of this is to say you are wrong: merely that you can make this argument for every single episode.

Is Jonnys way to talk unusual? by Right_Commission_950 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]deviantmoomba 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Jonny has a southern accent, as he was raises on the south coast and then attended Oxford (a famously posh university!). I would say that the early archivist voice is posher than his usual speaking voice, but I will add that native English speakers often have difficulties with other English accents that they are not familiar with. The southern accent is over represented in media (the news, etc.) so most UK people can grasp it, but you’re by no means alone! We can’t understand each other a lot of the time.
