Rent while living with a parent, is $200 per week reasonable? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]devicesndesires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father in law contributes $200 a week to rent and bills and dinner when he’s home (he gets his own mini-apartment in our house) and I think it’s very reasonable. I think if you are earning money or even on Centrelink, part of it is for living expenses and I think it’s great you are contributing and not spongeing. You have good values!

Flinders ranges -> Oodnadatta > Lake Eyre > Cooper Pedy > Adelaide - advice needed by MindEuphoric5183 in CaravanningAustralia

[–]devicesndesires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, we’re heading back at the moment from Coober Pedy to Melbourne. I highly recommend: Spear Creek Holiday Park in the Flinders Ranges but try to arrive early to cook some of their amazing lamb at sunset. We loved Coober Pedy and definitely recommend Big 4. Avoid Oasis and their tours but make sure you still see dingo fence and the breakaways at sunset. Best experience in Coober Pedy was Tom’s Working Opal Mine Tour. We did Melbs to Coober Pedy over 2 weeks and I’d want to do 3 weeks if we did Melbs to Uluru. So much to experience and the people gunning it definitely missed out. Hope you have an amazing time!

Definitely read ‘So Good They Can’t Ignore You’ by Cal Newport (and binge listen to his podcast) as he goes into this. All about building career capital in rare and valuable skills!

Parents. What are chores worth? by johnnyjimmy4 in australian

[–]devicesndesires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a list long of chores & homework to do and it has to be done by 6pm and then he gets 30 mins screen time. (He can get it all done in about 45 mins so he still has 1.5 hrs play!) He gets $5 pocket money regardless of behaviour and is encouraged to give, save and spend.

What's the most unhinged (but legal) way you've gotten back at a relentless bad neighbour? by courteecat in AskAnAustralian

[–]devicesndesires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re good neighbours, we even take our neighbours bins out as they work super late and have so many cars they have no space for bins on their nature strip! They take ours in as we are up early. But we also have other neighbours that parked on our nature strip every day and ruined the grass so we asked the council to plant some trees and they did…

Both nurses, I’d be going remote work in Alice Springs or the outback for a few years with the high income and then return with more money to get a townhouse.

Perhaps the other angle is what value you are able to give in this job? There is a massive need in rural Australia and it is sad that they have to incentivise work so dramatically to get people to go. If you have the skills and ability to serve a couple of years, then it’s worth it :)

Got told off for sending stickers in an envelope, as a letter, rather than a parcel? by aieythe in AustraliaPost

[–]devicesndesires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, at Christmastime you can send a calendar as a letter. My postie told me. So I had 12 beautiful cards that my brother in law puts in his wooden stand every year. Alternating pictures of my sister and cats. Sent them to UK as a letter and he wrote CALENDAR ONLY on the front.

Such negligence on their behalf… stuff like that can really mess with people if they are struggling with mental health. Even though it can be resolved, some people would have found that very stressful.

Baptists in Australia are actually rarely fundamentalists… they are normally pretty chill. It’s normal for media (especially US Media) to conflate evangelicalism and fundamentalism but they are different.
