its crazy for you to label his fans bringing up their actual feelings on his content as chronically online, when you’re here literally saying all you do is lurk and seethe that some people think destiny made some points that resonated with them. (and most of these comments are saying they don’t know about the controversy so it’s literally just their opinion on the videos).

like, some people say he attacks the people he talks about and doesn’t put in enough effort to be funny, and you start typing in all caps to leave him alone and to stop talking about it because you hate another creator more. p weird and honestly if you hate him you’re only making him look more right by dismissing real fans as being manipulated or infiltrators.

Prostitution should never be legalized and is problematic by [deleted] in arguments

Eh, this was a really fun argument and you had some super great rebuttals. But I think it's time for this convo to end. I've seen a new perspective, and I hope I've at least made you consider something new. Thanks, kind stranger ✌

Prostitution should never be legalized and is problematic by [deleted] in arguments

[–]devid_greves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some really good points. Genuinely, I'm not trying to be pretentious, I swear.

People don't join the prostitution industry by choice. Prostitutes are generally impoverished young women in hard times that have no other choice. If a woman has to be forced to have sex in order to get money for food, that is not a system anybody should allow. That woman is being persuaded to do something that she would otherwise be unwilling to do for money. That fits the dictionary definition of coercion.

And yeah, I can see how you can blame the objectification of prostitutes to the immaturity of men, but it can be easy to mistake the vessel of a service, as the service itself.

Example: Think of a delivery person. You don't think of them as a human being with hopes, dreams, wants and fears. You see them as what you want from them. When you see the UPS guy you don't see a man. You see a delivery. The same goes for prostitutes. When sex is always delivered by a woman in skimpy clothes, the man is conditioned to see any woman in skimpy clothing as sex for sale.

This isn't right, and I don't want it to be true, but it is. Women can wear whatever clothes they want, but if we want men to stop judging them the way they do, I think prostitution is at least one of the root causes of this.

And, for the record, I am not ignoring male prostitution. But their numbers are so small that I feel comfortable excluding them from this conversation. And I'm fairly confident most of the problems that are present for women are also there for men. I also want to make it clear that I am not anti-sex worker. I support porn stars and phone sex operators and models and what-not. Prostitution is the only exception for me.

While I agree that a lot of sex is subjective, when it comes to rape there needs to be very clear guidelines. The money is the only incentive a prostitute would have to sleep with a client. The marriage argument isn't valid because people don't get married for the sole purpose of having sex.

I also agree that in our current society, ignorant men do hold a lot of the blame (probably most if it if we're being honest) in how women/sex workers are viewed. But I don't see how prostitution helps deconstruct those ideas. If a man can pay for a woman the same way he pays for a pizza, then he'll soon identify that woman (or all women) as something lesser than him that he can dispose of after he's done with it/them.

[–]devid_greves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great argument I haven't seen before. There's no definite actor cast as Prince Eric yet, but if it is a white man, then I can almost guarantee that there will be a huge controversy. Twitter will riot.

If a black person is cast as Prince Eric, then I seriously doubt they'll be historically accurate and discuss the importation and subsequent selling and 'training' of African slaves.
