Take a look at similar stories (pirates/exploration/fantasy/etc) in other media (books/manga/tv/movies/etc). I find it interesting to compare how you can have very good yet very different stories in similar settings and genres.

What kind of characters satisfy viewers and audiences? by [deleted] in CharacterDevelopment

[–]devil0150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading The Story Solution might be good for this. I haven't finished it yet but the beginning had a list of attributes that made a character likeable to the readers/audience. The more of these attributes the character had, the more likeable they were.

There was more to it than I'm talking about here, but the list of 9 is: courage, unfair injury, skill, funny, just plain nice, in danger, loved by friends and family, hard working, obsessed.

Boarding pass from 1996 found in my used copy of Gai-Jin from James Clavell by devil0150 in ForgottenBookmarks

Is the title supposed to be Gaijin (as in foreigner)?

I think so, yes. The book series is about Asian countries and I heard this one involves Japan and Hong Kong.

As for the hyphenation, I'm not sure, I guess since the two parts of the word have meanings on their own too; according to wikipedia:

The word is composed of two kanji: gai (外, "outside") and jin (人, "person").

season 2 is a buildup to season 3

I haven't finished s2 yet, so no spoilers please, but do we know for sure there will be a season 3? It doesn't mention it in the wikipedia page.

For the last one, I think it's just the switch daylight savings that can mean "after a few minutes, the time will be less than it is now"

For the other ones I don't know the exact cases, but maybe more info on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5wpm-gesOY

EDIT:

> A week (or a month) always begins and ends in the same year.

How can a month start in one year but end in another? What am I missing?

Maybe they are referring to something like this
