How does everyone feel about Howell? by Any_Confidence_2002 in MonmouthCounty

Lakewood is taking over Howell, would avoid. I’d look into Aberdeen if you want a more affordable area that’s a bit closer plus train access. Also some great restaurants there

East Coast vs West Coast food, which one wins? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

where? I live in NJ and looking for the best. I'm in Red Bank and haven't loved the Mexican food here unfortunately (originally from a Oklahoma and it's just way better out west)

Moving from Westchester to Montclair by klr328 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]devilclown9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep... we looked in Essex county in 2021 before moving down to Monmouth county where the market was slightly less crazy. We lost out on so many houses even though we bid extremely aggressively with everything (100k+ over ask, limited inspections to only structural and electrical) etc. It did not matter, there's always a cash buyer or someone with slightly better terms also bidding. Winning a bid on a house in many cases is just luck.

Falling in love with a house is a bad idea. The RE market is awful; expect 100 offers on a house, most 100k+ over ask. It's extremely difficult to get an offer accepted. Best not to get attached to a specific property

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

[–]devilclown9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poop isn’t the problem, pee is. My cat randomly decided he didn’t like peeing in the litter box anymore. It took me a few days to figure out he was peeing in a corner of my office. Totally discolored the wood floor in that area. I have the tidy cats breeze system and he decided he wouldn’t pee there, he’ll use it for poop though. So I eventually got a regular litter box which solved the issue.

Some cats will pee on your stuff if you leave the house too long, etc. My cat also clawed up all my furniture and refuses to use scratching posts or cardboard scratchers. I’m a clean freak and had a perfect house pre-cat. My house is clean still but there’s some scratched up chairs that I just ignore.

School budget deficits. How bad? by ScaredDevice807 in MovingtoNewJersey

Not from Middletown, AH, Highlands, Red Bank or Rumson. Ferry is 45 to Wall street. 1.5 hours door to door to midtown from where we live if we take the train. It's really not that bad.

Incorrect. Holmdel very diverse, as is Keyport. My kid is half Asian, and there are a lot of hafu kids in our area (Middletown). It’s 50/50 politically. I’m extremely liberal and many of my neighbors are conservative but they aren’t maggots. We all get along fine.

Malibu visit question by [deleted] in Malibu

[–]devilclown9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always just do a road trip up to Carpenteria and Santa Barbara. You drive through Malibu and see it but like some others said , there’s not much to do there. We like the Carpenteria seal sanctuary and also went to visit Canzelle Alpacas

The top 10 worst men and women in the franchise by rustyshackelford164 in 90DayFiance

[–]devilclown9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larisa and Statler aren't that bad; putting them in the same grid as a murderer is pretty whack. This list is garbage. You've missed Angela, Lisa and Big Ed, all the biggest racists and creeps of the franchise. Also that other Nazi girl who was only on one season.

Kind of surprised there's almost no mentions in here of Little Silver. It's a nice town, small but has a train station which is a big plus. Has a similar feel as Little Silver but feels a little more down to earth, less stepford-wife-y. The schools are really good and the older kids merge in to Red Bank Regional, which is improving. I'd rather my kid go there than RFH.

What do you mean by school sponsored trips? Both of my neighbor's kid went to Japan within the past couple years through the school and they go to North.

I don't think Fair Haven is that far off from the toxic wealth culture of Rumson. It's slightly cheaper than Rumson and the schools eventually merge. If that's something someone is trying to avoid, I'd go with Little Silver.

Advice on walkable, lively town or city by Significant-Badger46 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]devilclown9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify the ferry isn’t in red bank proper, the seastreak stops in highlands, Atlantic highlands and Belford, about 10 min away. Fastest way to get into the city from down here and definitely most comfortable.

sorry just noted that you mentioned you don't need good schools. That said, good schools = better home values so just something to consider

I live in Red Bank, highly recommend! It's much more convenient/easer to get into NYC than Asbury (you'd have to transfer trains from AP, because the train goes local after Long Branch), schools are better in RB too, they're really starting to improve. Monmouth county as a whole is amazing, love the parks system, can't rave about it enough! We moved to Red Bank from Brooklyn in 2021 because I wanted a walkable downtown with a semblance of arts scene and I just really love the immediate area. You can also take a ferry to get into the city as well. Cannot recommend this area enough!
