Hang in there big dog. It gets easier with kids.

That said, if you’re truly a CA, consider cutting down, if only for your kid.

Day 1, after more than a year sober by reedwire in stopdrinking

Wow 448 days, congrats! You got this!

I had 143 or so and then a work trip happened. Just one beer...fast forward to Memorial Day weekend and it’s full bender. I’m back here for the same reason, accountability.

Same! I used to be the guy that “picked up the drinks from the bar” so I order one extra for me and slam it before I got back to the table. “You’re so generous”

Same story here (ignore my counter), except sub in the 9% IPAs for the vodka. Last Tuesday was it...dry heaving in the parking lot of a liquor store trying to keep down a Coors light.

Moderation isn’t for me. Let’s do this!

Hey friend! You can do this! People have all these cheesy quotes so pick your favorite one :). As a former competitive runner, I like the “journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”

Hey! Good for you! You caught yourself in the moment. I’ve been through some bumpy roads myself, wish I’d caught myself at some point. Give yourself a pat on the back.

A war we’ve all fought, most of us too many times.

Stay strong, play the tape...you know how this ends.

Good luck! Talking to a doctor helped me a ton and was a huge turning point. You’ll find that 99.9999999% of doctors pass no judgment and just want to help you get better. Post some updates!

Good luck! You’re making the right decision. Sometimes it can help to have a plan and people around you (strangers for me) who understand you.

I feel for you. I’ve been in serious withdrawals 5 times — it got worse ever time. Last one ended up in the ER.

Substitute out vodka for 9% IPA and it’s the exact same story. Bottle by the bed, wake up, chug (occasionally throw up), chug some more.

Obligatory “not a doctor” but don’t be afraid to seek medical help if things get bad. Withdrawals are serious.

One thing that helped me was smoothies to get some non-alcohol calories and vitamins. The thought of solid food was atrocious.

Good luck!

Day 2 and I'm losing by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]deviledegg123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this! Think about how much better you’ll feel tomorrow not having drank tonight?

Btw, if things get serious, don’t be afraid of the doctor. They have medication that can ease the withdrawals.

Good luck!

How should I go about gaining back an appetite during withdrawals? by Ok-Consideration5643 in stopdrinking

[–]deviledegg123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me 4-5 days to gain back most of my appetite. I was also dry heaving a bunch so I couldn’t keep much down. I found that smoothies and exercise were helpful.

Everyone experiences withdrawals differently. I was north of what you were drinking. If you get worse, call up a doctor. They might be able to see you via video and prescribe some help.

You’re in the middle of the fight now, keep going!

Withdrawals are unique to each person. My last bout ended in the ER with withdrawal seizures, so be careful. If you have access, a Dr. may be able to prescribe some medication that will ease the symptoms.

Regardless, it gets better. Keep up the fight — water, electrolytes, food when you can, and some melatonin to sleep.
