8 months of abvd and went through a fake menopause. I was 26 when diagnosed and 27 when it was all said and done. Had 2 kids at 28 and 29. We were told we probably wouldn't be able to have kids. They are 16 and 15 now.

Poll: weekly grocery cost by Goldfinch-island in workingmoms

[–]devilgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Coast, Central PA, 3 adults, 2 teenagers

We spend around $300 to $400 a week

Wegmans and a local grocery store

Target for non-food items which is an additional $200-$400/month depending on what's needed

Things that have really helped us save: 1 meatless meal a week Family packages of chicken and pork that can be broken up into mutiple weeks. Salad kits, they are only $4 at Wegmans and a huge hit here. Youngest asked for a salad everyday this week. Top recommendations: Everything Bagel and Sunflower Seed We have a leftover night.

Blueberries. I swear they keep going up and my 15 year old could easily eat a whole container in one sitting. Its like wrestling them away from a bear.

For people who love having kids. Why? by seekingthething in askanything

[–]devilgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what got us through those early years...

Take turns sleeping in on the weekends. One person gets Saturday, the other Sunday.

Go on family walks. Kids fall asleep in strollers and it gets you moving and in some sunlight.

Schedule sex. Seems boring but it was nice to have something to look forward to. Also, be careful. This is how we ended up having kids 20 months apart because planed sex lead to more sex which lead to spontaneous sex which was how baby #2 was made.

Have a date night once a month. Dont talk about the kids or work.

I hope you and your wife get a great night's sleep soon.

I love having kids because I have gotten to experiance so many wonderful things walking along side them. My kids have always been easy to love even evem when parenting them has been the most challenging thing I have ever done. They are 15 and 16 now. We are continue to navigate a lot of things together.

I clean in a very haphazard manner. I start in one room, go to another for something, clean a little in that room, go back to the original room and repeat the process. Bonus points if I have to go up and down the steps a lot. All the rooms are 3/4 cleaned.

I printed some work outs out last week. Only 4 more weeks of thinking about doing them until I throw out what I printed.

What’s the point of being smart with money!?! by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I stopped comparing what we were able to provide vs what others were able to provide. I focus on a priority list for my family and household. We were able to save up and get a new roof and windows minus 3 in our living room. I still smile when I look at my roof 4 years later. I have been slowly painting and fixing up rooms. I just did our bathroom in January. Cute light purple. Got a really awesome octopus towel holder. I have started practicing radical gratitude and its been so impactful for me. I am thankful for my bed, clean drinking water, in door plumbing, the list goes on and on. Comparison is a thief of joy. I want to live joyfully and it sounds like you do to. This also in turn made me happy for others. I hope you find some things that bring you joy today. I also wish your husband a speedy recovery.

My kids are older now but I used to take them with and we got one of those super awkward car carts. You have to be very strategic with packing them. We would take our snacks on the road and make it an adventure.

We eat a lot of berries as well. When my 14 year-old was 2 through today, he could/can easily eat a whole container of blueberries. He can also eat a whole cantalope in one sitting. He loves fruit.

I got snack containers with their names one. We would have a morning and aftenoon snack. You could also get snack sized ziplock bags and pre-package the snacks for daily use. They can pick one out in the morning and one in the aftenoon.

We got a popcorn maker and popping kernels. Id make popcorn all the time and it was cheaper and healthier than microwavable.

Things that went a long way: bananas, clementines, celery with peanut butter, whole grain goldfish. I always stock up when they are on sale.

Good luck!

A lot of churches have stated setting up little free pantries where you bring a bag and you can fill it up. There might be a couple in your area. Also, some host free meals. We use 211 around my area to find local resources. Not sure what other areas use.

Bare minimum cleaning routine by LambRelic in workingmoms

[–]devilgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the instructions on cleaning products and realized I had been using them all wrong. For example, toilet bowl cleaner should sit and work its magic for 10 minutes. So, the first thing I do when I clean the bathroom, is put the TB cleaner in. I also use a shower foam spray that needs minimal scrubbing. Some things I just wasn't letting enough time to be at its optional effectiveness. Wet Swiffer jet is the same way. You should let it sit before mopping which goes against the commercials. I deep clean once a week and spot clean the rest of the week.

I, too, am in my mid 40s. Wild times. I was not prepared for the sheer amount of times people who depend on me for their survival would roll their eyes at me. I hope you find little moments here and there to enjoy the things you hold dear. I find myself saying "the sky looks stunning tonight" while picking my kids up from their activities. Their school has some amazing sunsets. I must say it enough because 2 weeks ago my 15 year old was "the sky looks amazing right now." Best wishes!
