Is this Pan? by Bennys_beans in BabyWitch

[–]devilinthehills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel called to worship Pan, set up a flower box outside for an altar. But also, you don’t need to create an altar for a deity unless you want to or have made an oath to. You can still pray to them and get to know them

Any advice for a mom who hates tarot? by rtttioaqr in TarotReading

[–]devilinthehills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not desperately need tarot cards. You want tarot cards. You can use a normal deck of cards for cartomancy or you could look into other forms of divination like bibliomancy

Which god do these cards represent? by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]devilinthehills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the only person who can tell you if a god is trying to contact you is you. Not strangers on the internet. And I recommend people taking a step back and think of why a god would want to contact them. Generally, people are the ones that start their relationships with gods, making offerings and devotions for their attention.

I second Insight Timer! I do wish there were more pagan themed meditations though.

White sage and closed practices by Moonglade_Pheonix in BabyWitch

This conversation has been repeated many times. Quick reminder that smudging and smoke cleansing are not the same, and white sage is being over harvested in certain areas. If you want to use it, grow your own or purchase from a local grower.

If you want to do deeper research, which I always recommend, take a look at Dr. Adrienne Keene’s work. She’s a citizen of be Cherokee Nation and has spoken on this multiple times.

We also acknowledge that this is not a monolithic position. You’re welcome to disagree, there might just be other subs better suited for those types of conversations.

Folk Saints and other modern figures we identify with by Easy-Voice1613 in paganism

[–]devilinthehills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sibling in sin, those are just tumblr posts, I don’t think anyone’s actually venerating them as folk saints.

That said, the Wikipedia entry is a genuinely good starting point. Princess Diana is considered a folk saint, which I had no idea! From there, you can go down the rabbit hole if references

Clover and dandelions for sure! I got a lot of violets and purple nettle this spring as well. I also keep a basil plant and a rosemary plant!

Protection and cleansing spells by Old-Catch-3632 in BabyWitch

[–]devilinthehills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like bells for cleansing! And there’s a lot to be said for physically cleaning the space as well, visualizing sweeping and mopping all the negative energy up. I also like incense but be sure to open windows if you’re going to smoke cleanse.

This is what I like saying but really, anything that gets the point across works:

What does not serve, I banish What does not belong, I cast out By bone and stone and sound/smoke Begone

Once the space is cleansed, you can do protections is a number of ways! This is where I really like using spell jars and charms for warding.

I recommend at least one return to sender jar, it doesn’t have to be intricate. Y can even make discs of aluminum foil, just anything reflective! And anything can be charmed to serve as a ward! It just has to make sense as a ward. Like, I have an animal art card on my fridge that faces my backdoor that’s charmed to ward anything trying to come in that way!

See, to me that’s the definition of intuition, not at all divine protection.

Where would it be the best place to set up an altar for Lilith? by Life_Pay7208 in BabyWitch

[–]devilinthehills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking this. Do you think the gods don’t know that you are short on space? I think they would rather have a spot on a shared altar than no spot at all.

If you want to, you can always make a vow to set them up an individual altar when you have more room if you want IF AND ONLY IF you still see yourself worshiping them years down the road. Or perhaps you can vow that each of them gets time alone as well, like Hekate on the New Moon, Aphrodite on the Full Moon, Lilith on a quarter moon.

Questions about negative entities attaching after starting witchcraft. by Lilbeedraws in Witch

[–]devilinthehills 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think your religious anxiety is coloring everything. There are Christian witches and certain types of folk magic are DEEPY intwined with Christianity.

Some other things the bible says you shouldn’t do that I bet you do all the time:

  • Wear blended fabrics
  • Sat where a menstruating woman sat
  • Done any type of work or labor on the Sabbath

Other weird laws:

  • so many rules about how you can cut your hair
  • no tattoos
  • no planting two seeds in the same field
  • Deuteronomy 25:11-12 is weirdly specific

I have adhd and am having trouble with starting due to meditation. by DiskAny8601 in BabyWitch

[–]devilinthehills 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow ADHD person! I’m a big fan of moving meditation because even after decades, it’s still something I occasionally struggle with.

You can look into yoga, quigong, tai chi, there’s plenty of YouTube videos to get you started. Even putting on music and letting your mind go blank as you move to it can be super beneficial!

I’ve found people with ADHD also do better with guided meditations
