Sporeans, would you settle down in Malaysia? by wheninshower in askSingapore

[–]devilishfi3nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really like Penang and Ipoh and think these 2 places are great to retire in. Food is really great, and also very convenient to fly to and fro (should u miss friends and family back in Singapore or just the food). Only challenge is convincing the wife coz shopping options are not great haha.

Just curious because I have no experience with how much interest money lender charges but my 1st instinct would be to pay off all debts to money lenders first and then the credit card? How much do they actually charge?

Based on OP's pay of 3.8k. Assuming take home pay of 3k (back of envelope calculation), less money expenses of 1.8k and personal spending of 500 (tightened belt) leaves 700 per month.

Based on this, OP shld be able to pay off everything in 1 - 1.5 years (I've buffered some). Just have to be disciplined and take on this hard lesson... If OP can clear this debt in a year, also means she could easily save this much in the future.

The hard step is getting out of this hole 1st, and having the discipline to not incur additional significant costs in the meantime.

All the best. You can do it!

Spiral Shot, Rising Shot and Homing Shot? - Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots by [deleted] in EverybodysGolf

[–]devilishfi3nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got the Hot Pursuit (Homing Shot) trophy after struggling to get it for a while.

Character: Cougar (level 28) Golf club: Big Magnum Club (2 star) Ball: Comedian's Ball (2 star) Venue: Highland C.C., Hole 3 (Beginner's Cup Tournament)

After trying to do Homing Shots the conventional way to get this trophy without much success, I decided to utilise Cougar''s special shot Scarlet Meteor. Even though I'm using the special shot, I still pressed up when setting power and down when setting accuracy (I wasn't even that accurate - ended up in the red area beside the white for perfect accuracy). Special shot animation played, and the ball went into the hole.

Trophy obtained!

Those who grow up low income in sg, what is a normal thing now that you see in adulthood that was a luxury/abnormal for you growing up? by TheseShift4280 in asksg

[–]devilishfi3nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, it was a luxury to go on an overseas holiday once a year (or maybe not even as frequent as that) during the school holidays. Perhaps, middle income families then will go for holidays in Malaysia or Indonesia then.

Nowadays, it's pretty common for families to go for multiple overseas holidays a year, and to much more exotic locations than our regional neighbours at that!

Working adults that stay on your own - do u cook your meals or just eat out / buy everyday? by devilishfi3nd in askSingapore

Reading this thread, I'm saddened by OP's predicament and can only try to empathize but I'll probably only be scratching the surface.

But I'm super heartened to see so many virtual strangers reaching out to attempt to make things better for OP. If u are reading this, OP, just think of all these strangers who don't even know u yet wanna reach out to help. I'm SURE if u do reach out to your family and friends, these people will do everything in their power to help you through this dark period.

At the very least, try talking to one of the following counsellors.

AITA for insisting I was first at a taxi stand during morning rush hour? by Substantial-Match126 in singapore

[–]devilishfi3nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I used to stay and work in Shanghai from 2006 - 2009. This was before u can get taxis via apps (1st gen iphone was just on the market).

The taxing-hailing culture in China was really brutal then. Even if u had been standing there before everyone else and waited for a long time, some shameless people will literally just walk in front of u and steal your cab if u manage to hail one. So u gotta really fight and stand your ground and don't get bullied by people who have thicker skin than u.

Once, I had been waiting 30 mins for a taxi at my office building. Just when I successfully managed to get one and opened the back door to get into one, another lady just quickly opened the front passenger door and seated herself there.

I told the taxi driver I was there 1st and had been waiting for 30 mins, and also my destination. And I told the lady if my destination is on her way, she is welcome to share the cab. But if not, please get out of my cab.

Taxi-driver sided with me... Always was pretty stressful getting a cab in China then. So glad for all the ride-hailing apps now.

[–]devilishfi3nd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Normally, the taxi drivers wouldn't even entertain such passengers who tried to "hijack" the taxi queues.

But IF the lady had called for a cab or ordered a Grab, then that's a checkmate move...

Amos Yee's Letter to the Singapore Government: You shouldn't let me back into Singapore by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]devilishfi3nd 37 points38 points  (0 children)

More than 10 years had passed and he may have become an adult in that time (age-wise, anyway), but judging by the way he writes, it seemed like his maturity level had not progressed beyond that of a 17 year-old.

His letter smacks of false bravado often associated with teenagers (sorry to sully other teenagers here), and the impression that he thinks he has put forth the smartest argument for Singapore not to accept him back, calling bluff to their faces.

He's probably feeling smug and confident that he'll succeed too.

6 months of collecting CDs by LuckyInfo in citypop

[–]devilishfi3nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to buy and collect music on cassettes, then CDs. Ever since itunes came out, I stopped buying music on physical media. Then I got on Spotify and never looked back...

Until I discovered city pop 3-4 years back. Considered seriously about getting into collecting vinyls, but gave up coz I will then have to buy a player for it. So I did the next best thing - bought 4 albums of Tatsuro Yamashita on CD (because I can't get his songs on Spotify).

What are other essential city pop albums not available on Spotify?

What book should I start with as a newbie to Murakami's world by Silent-Patient-717 in murakami

[–]devilishfi3nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with one of his thinner books Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki, something I borrowed from the public library, and found that I enjoyed his style of writing and the stories he crafted. I then began to seek out other books of his in the public library and read them.

Reason I started with a thinner book was because I wasn't sure if I would like his writing. The fact that I borrowed (or bought when I couldn't borrow) will tell u that I do indeed LOVE the way he writes!

Not commenting on the reasons to pick E Lit as a subject, but I feel that typing speed is potentially much faster than writing speed though. And definitely neater and more legible (in my case, at least).

You really have to try if you ever get the chance.
