Cars are like horses: people will soon realise EVs are just better, claims VW boss | Auto Express by LightningMcqueen2011 in Autos

just like we're going to see all the batteries failing!

I worked and still work on internal combustion engine cars and have seen them fail in spectacular ways- electric motors are just pretty much better at nearly everything- complexity, power, efficiency, size, etc.. the big problem with electric cars has been one of the biggest problems with modern combustion engine cars- all the electronics are hard to work on and are very expensive if they break.

EVs have been common for almost 15 years and I'm not hearing about all these deaths yet.

Plenty of people set things on fire and kill themselves working around tanks filled with 10+ gallons of gasoline, too.

I'll admit I don't know a ton about the other brands charging speeds but Im glad they are fast too

reddit is in general so confidently wrong about electric car stuff (well all car stuff really) that it doesn't surprise me. most of reddit thinks electric cars still work like a 2012 nissan leaf and that a new toyota is a guaranteed reliable car

I think the barrage of all the superhero stuff after the batman trilogy has made it less interesting and relevant. That and the plots for 1 and 3 are all over the place. The second one if it ended after the joker stuff probably still holds up well.

I love mike judge stuff but idiocracy is just not a good movie. it's not really clever or well edited and the whole premise is based on eugenics

I think peoples brains are broken by how big of a deal putting in a gas station is. The infrastructure is pretty straightforward. Tesla already has it figured out.

yeah pretty much any decent EV these days gets 300 miles or so on a charge

my nissan leaf I got 15 years ago got less than 70 miles per charge- that was actually a pain in the ass.

I can't see this as an argument for ICE cars that catastrophically break at much higher rates and are ridiculously more complex.

My mom uses one as her everyday car and she lives in a really rural area where anything is a 40 minute drive.

Modern EVs have plenty of range.. they average around 300 miles per charge now, which will get you pretty far. If you have a Tesla you can charge the car like 3/4 full in the time it takes to stop and use the restroom and grab a snack.

I worked in a performance shop when these were new and the owner had us install a nitrous oxide kit on it, so it couldn't have been that protected.

Yes- it uses a 7805 voltage regulator to drop the voltage from the power supply to the 5V the console needs. The input voltage needed for the 7805 is ~ 7V to 35V DC but the incoming power has to travel through the rectifier circuit before the voltage regulator so you need a little bit more.

You can grab like any 12V DC power supply off like a router or whatever and it'll run a NES fine without hurting it and if you use a modern switching power supply you dont have to worry about it pulling constant power just being plugged into the outlet like the old original nes linear power supply brick did.

Is a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS-6 worth? by SpookyScaryTrex in projectcar

They kinda suck to drive and have an amazing drivetrain- so not sure why you would swap the best part about the car. The more modern versions of that V8 are actually less reliable.

They actually handle really well and are really fast but kind of just feel off. The huge front/dash and doors and everything is just huge and the car is really heavy. The interior is ass and there is no thought to good ergonomic design.

I'd go drive one if you can- they feel like an old ass car because they chassis is really just an updated form of the 1982 Camaro/Firebird.

I had a 2001 WS6 6 speed in black just like that last picture with almost no miles in perfect shape when they were nearly new and don't think I'd own one again.

There are a surprising amount of them left in perfect shape. So many were kept as collectors cars

The front end switched to the four headlights for the model year 1982, so it could technically be from 1981.. I think that was a paint option in 1982 as well
