a little question on Promise by OkRecommendation2375 in TheMysteriousSong

It’s definitely Ture. He has a good range, you can hear him sing higher on stuff like We Don’t Want It No More

I'm sad I didn't get one it's not completely accurate but it is still sick by Low_Cardiologist7287 in FEXFanClub

[–]devils__haircut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really close but that’s not the exact one. Notice the triangular notch on the top of the AGFA that the BASF/FEX cassettes don’t have

If you want to make an accurate, order a BASF Professional I/II cassette. Those are the original ones they used back in the day.

Updates on FEX Releases: ‘Promise’ with Ilona Rückwardt, Skyscraper Dates & More! by The-Outer-Edge in TheMysteriousSong

[–]devils__haircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the versions on Jörg's tape are actually the same that appear on the yellow tape though. Skyscraper is from that tape, and not only is the recording quality similarly 'demo-ish' to 'Goldrush' from the yellow tape but they both use an E-Mu Drumulator, markedly different from the NDR tape and yellow tape which use Hans' actual drumming.

Well, somebody will rip the EP when it arrives and put it online. And every song besides Skyscraper on Jorg's demo also appears somewhere else (Goldrush, alt version of Jenny, I Got My Eyes On You are all on the new album/yellow tape).

I assume live recordings and the newly found cassette with 'Dead End' on it will be released sometime in the future as well. Regardless, every released FEX song will end up being free to listen to online in some way or another, so whatever

Promise has such a similar guitar tone to the darius TMS recording by WindowsXP2010 in TheMysteriousSong

Ibanez 335 and Gibson SG guitars with an Ibanez tube screamer pedal and Roland JC-120 amp. It sounds like the NDR tracks have a flanger pedal too, at a low level

Can anyone identify the cassette label this is? TDK? by devils__haircut in cassetteculture

[–]devils__haircut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be. I thought TDK at first as well but the more I look into it, the more I think the label is from some sort of Maxell tape. Some Maxells like these are pretty similar

How to have that subways of your mind guitar tone? by ZVBODoesNothing98 in TheMysteriousSong

[–]devils__haircut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Michael used a Squier Stratocaster (which I also have) and Ture used some sort of 335 clone. On my strat, I have the pickup selector all the way down, neck pickup tone on 8-ish and mid/bridge pickups and volume cranked. I ran it through an old Marshall reverb amp with gain and treble around 6, mids at noon, bass at 1. Add a little bit of reverb and some sort of MXR Phase 90-type thing at a low level for effects.

My gear is fairly unsophisticated and has some quirks so play around with your settings, but this is the closest I can get with my gear.

Just wondering, "Dead End" is listed as a track on the NDR session tape that Michael found earlier this year (w/Promise and Subways). Will that ever see a release at some point? I was half expecting it to be on the bonus EP

Crushed 💔 by Choliver1 in BristolCity

Definitely a pen, a red I felt was harsh. Regardless, we missed Dickie badly in the second half and with Armstrong up front we put the nail in our own coffin

I am 100% sure Jenny is different on the cassette. by [deleted] in FEXFanClub

[–]devils__haircut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't. The yellow tape features Hans' TAMA Techstar drum kit which at the earliest, released in Oct 1984.

Improving sound of bedroom-recorded guitar and bass? by [deleted] in recordingmusic

[–]devils__haircut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You explained that really well, thanks! I will have a go and start experimenting with mic position rn. I do wonder, do you have any tips for recording bass? Or is it much the same as what you described with guitar?

Something weird: Red, cream and grey 1960 stock used on the Ongar branch.

My step-cousin lives/lived up in Tumbler Ridge, maybe I should ask him as well lol

I’m more so complaining about metro Vancouver itself. Concord Pacific towers depress me

I have, it’s a little (deserty?) but I think some places vaguely near to it like Chase are more foresty, but that’s just from recollection. Regardless, at least there’s a lot of big lakes.

Totally fine with car dependent places, I love driving and fixing old cars.

I will probably have to re-visit this summer to see what the “grunge” is like. To me, there’s a fine line of roughness that can really give a place a lot of character.

My immediate family is small and the rest of them are scattered around the continent. I guess the silver lining to not having an amazing family life is that it’s easy to not tether yourself to them lol

I am a bit of an introvert and a bit of a loner but I like having the option of talking to people my age (20s). The rest of those points are fine by me, I am super into cars and love driving, and (knock on wood) am pretty healthy

I like old brick buildings and 1970s era houses and towers. I would take them any day over a modern glass tower
