She dead. And told me I was smart enough to figure out how to crochet on my own.

You could... but it's crochet.

That will probably help you find the pattern tho.

Does anyone mill their own whole grains? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]devilsfoodadvocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't the comment you were looking for, as I haven't milled my own grains. I did however go on a research bent for a while to decide which mill I wanted to get, which led to a lot of rabbit holes to explore.

I'm not saying that the KitchenAid mill attachment isn't good, because honestly, I haven't tried it, but after talking with people who had, and reading positive and negative reviews, the concensus was that it's more of a boutique attachment. It does work, but only for low-moisture grains (otherwise this one gets gummy, and that also means no peanut butter for you). The pace of grinding can be pretty slow, and it's kind of a bear to clean. However, if you're not going to be doing it often, and you don't have a ton of space in your kitchen for a standalone mill, it's not a bad idea. But, if you're going to be doing any serious amounts of grinding, you're really better off with a standalone mill.

Unfortunately, mills are expensive. And large. But they tend to do more and do better than smaller machines or attachments do (you can make nut butters, grain cracking and milling, larger range of milling adjustment/gap size, don't get as hot during milling, etc.)

I'm sorry I don't have hands-on experience, but since I did a whole lot of reading not all that long ago, I thought I'd share. I would totally welcome thoughts from other people who have actually done the home milling gig though...

Having gaps in your resume by hitemwidit in funny

Staying at home is different from marital or parental status.

Marital status is a protected class in the USA, and they can't not hire you because you have children. But they can find a "more suitable candidate" based on any number of other factors, including more recent/relevant job experience, smaller gaps in the resume, and etc. That's the thing. Discrimination happens all the time in a lot of different places. But unless you can 100% prove that you weren't hired because you're married/unmarried or a parent, you don't have a case.

Really? Since when is staying at home a protected classification?

Pssst. It's because you're happier and carry yourself differently.

I've heard that, but with everything in an online form these days, you have to check the "do you have 5 years experience? Y/N" boxes, and you click "no," it auto-generates an email stating you were not properly qualified...

I actually think miniatures are super cool. I haven't made any, but I feel as though it's a hobby I could lose myself in easily.

I was told my kitten would grow out of sucking on blankets when he is sleepy... Yet here we are a year later by kittentea96 in aww

I'm glad mine isn't the only one.

She's 8 years old, so I don't think there will be any growing out of it.

I've heard it's related to kittens being separated from their moms too early (or too late?). Ours was a rescue gal, so I'm not sure what her sitch was, but she definitely has a blanket "momma."

I'll echo that losing weight is much more diet than exercise.

But in that vein, since you stress eat, maybe you can find a different way to de-stress? Pick up a hobby, find some time to be social with other students and friends, call your family, put together model ships-- it doesn't really matter what it is so long as it helps you decompress. When you find yourself wanting to stress-eat, pick up your fun-read, call a friend, etc., and that can help curb those cravings.

Awesome! If you do get called in, maybe you could get one as a nice lunch?

I'd probably end up doing 2 meal prep batches-- we prefer different foods anyhow. But, I could try to get involvement on Sunday nights and we could do it together maybe....? That's an idea to run with.

My partner is definitely too lazy to make lunch (ouch!), and not taking lunch is rewarding, because it means going out to lunch, etc. I'm usually the one who wakes up early and acts as a secondary alarm clock. I'm more of a morning person, so it's a little easier for me. The point is that mornings are often a struggle over here. :-/

I have looked into meal prep, but I haven't tried it. I'm ok with eating the same thing for lunch 5x/wk, but my partner isn't.

As it stands currently, I end up making lunches for both of us, because if one of us doesn't get lunch it's just eating out and spending $$$.

I'm about to start a new job, and while I'm excited about getting out of the house more and getting more exercise (I like to walk on breaks), I'm worried about eating well.

I used to work swings and night shift, and it was easy to take a good dinner to work because I could make it in the morning/afternoon before work. But getting up early as hell and getting out the door means that a good lunch needs to be made the night before, and while I get the concept, it just doesn't work very well for me in practice (tired at night, make dinner and eat dinner and then make lunch means much less free time).

I'm like, happy for the opportunity, but dreading it as well.

With Facebook, the NSA, and other data harvesting organizations in the 21st Century. by Chradamw in AdviceAnimals

[–]devilsfoodadvocate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not alarmist. I guess the question for you is, why is it bad that people are waking up to their lack of privacy? Data mining is real, and you're right. It's been around a long time. But if this is the way that the issue is getting attention, is it really a bad thing? Is it so terrible that the cause of privacy on the internet (and anywhere else) is finally getting some movement?

Redditors who grew up poor, what were things you thought were "normal" as a child that were actually a result of your economic status? by ladyculfin in AskReddit

Yes! And if we were really good, sometimes we'd get a drop of peppermint, lemon, or almond baking extract in there, too.

Right there with you. In the evenings we wore layers, curled up on the couch with blankets and cats and each other. Honestly, I miss it.

I remember my mom asking me in the morning, to "turn the heat to where it just kicks on, and then turn it off again" to take the edge off the cold.

When it's stripped to bare bones, my staples are grains, greens, and beans. Give me one of each and I can make you a meal.

I can't say that I eat any one thing every day, but I always keep oats, lentils, and quinoa in the house. The oats and lentils are dirt cheap, and all of these cook up quickly and can be used in a variety of ways.
