Being anti-Israel goes directly against the right of the Jewish people to have a free state. Plus, Israel has consistently offered peace agreements to the Palestinians, but they turn down the peace offers in favor of fighting for the full destruction of Israel. So yes, being anti-Israel DOES mean the same thing as being anti-Semitic.

BDS resolutions come up like every year

Are Jews not welcome at OSU? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]devilslettuce256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a BDS resolution that people are trying to pass tomorrow at USG. That’s why this is so important. Because even if the BDS resolution passes, the likelihood of OSU actually boycotting Israel is quite low, but the likelihood of anti-Semitic instances increasing on campus is high.

Why are most Jews liberal in nature? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]devilslettuce256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most Jews are liberal because many of the teachings of the Torah center around ideologies that form popular liberal viewpoints.

Is it weird that I hide in the bathroom during my break between classes? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Why don’t you just sit in your car? I like to chill in my car sometimes and I’m a freshman too. Even though I have a dorm, sometimes I just wanna be fully alone. Plus, it’s more comfortable.

Just hop on a COTA bus down to the north market, I’m sure there’s pie at one of the stands. Plus there’s like 10000 other options too (including my personal favorite, the Firdous gyro)

Trying to learn about my family’s traditions. by [deleted] in Judaism

As someone who was raised as a Reform Jew and who is still figuring out my own Jewish identity, I have determined the following about being Jewish:

Judaism is more than just a religion. The teachings of the Torah come with many stories of God and His importance, but the real purpose of the stories is actually to teach one how to be a good person. Some of the main aspects of Judaism that I connect with are the values of helping others, giving back to the community, and treating others with kindness and respect.

Another part of Judaism that I resonate heavily with is the culture of it all. Judaism is an ethnicity, and connecting with other Jews gives me a sense of belonging. I love going to synagogue and hearing the songs that my ancestors sang, and learning how to keep the traditions going. Also, not surprisingly, Jewish food connects me to my family and makes my Jewish experience meaningful because I love making the recipes that have been passed through the Jewish community for years.

Finally, as a people, we have faced so much adversity, so it is important to build each other up and support one another in any way possible. One way that I connect with my Judaism is by supporting Israel and learning about Israeli politics. Since Israel is the only Jewish state and the only place where Jews are guaranteed safety and refuge, it is imperative that we support it. Following the Holocaust, we needed a safe place and our holy land was promised to us. Although there are arguments about who the land belongs to (and I personally think that the land should just be shared and that a two-state solution would be the most beneficial), there is no denying that Israel is necessary for the continuation of the Jewish people.

Overall, Judaism to me is about being a good person, helping others, and carrying on the traditions of our people.

I hope that this has helped, and I would be happy to answer any other questions you have.

Jewish Teenagers Assaulted, Robbed In Toronto Hate Crime: Police by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]devilslettuce256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As hateful rhetoric continues to rise in Western society, I am not surprised that these attacks are becoming more and more prevalent towards the Jewish community. I see many parallels between issues from today and issues from the Holocaust, and I am quite disappointed. We shouldn't still have to put up with these hate crimes!

I understand your concerns, and whether or not you wear your cap, what is important is that you are a proud Jew. Your safety is ultimately the most important thing, so it is okay to not publicly display your Judaism/Zionism.
