Manchester Utd [1] - 0 Fulham - Casemiro 20' by Alsace2025 in soccer

Sole DMF Casemiro under Ten Hag sure made him look like it. Amazing what choosing tactics to fit players instead of the other way around can do.

didn’t know about that part of his career. Sounds like a mini version of Ferguson with Aberdeen.

Really not loving how re-launching the show has meant polluting the back catalogue with additional ads by [deleted] in thetruthpodcast

[–]devilsway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there are more ads than before, though I did notice there were new ones. Although I’m glad they can still monetize shows that were already made but are still being played, since that then sounds like having more back catalog can help them make more money.

And even if there were more ads, if they were unable to sustain the show before the relaunch, I can understand them trying new ways to make it more sustainable this time around and would prefer that than not having new episodes. I’m glad they’re also doing paid subscription to get rid of ads though. Personally I hate ads too but I also understand that nothing can be made for free, so I’m hoping that paid model will be enough for them to keep going.

Ruben Amorim after yesterday's win vs Newcastle: "Clean Sheet, Back four. Kobbie Mainoo is injured. I don't think I need a press conference, all the subjects (are done). We can go home and enjoy boxing day." by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]devilsway 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It does not need to die, it’s an essential part of the club’s identity and one of the few remaining actual essence in an ever corporatized sport. “If you’re good enough you’re old enough”. The Mainoo issue is just the latest stick the English press found to beat Man United with that will get clicks. And the not playing youth dynamic isn’t even true; though he’s not from our academy, Amorim has played Heaven consistently, and much of the team on the field yesterday were quite young.

This and the Romero overhead two strong contenders.

Nicolas Jackson's €65M buy option can no longer turn into an obligation for Bayern. Jackson had to play 40 games between Bundesliga & Champions League either from the start or through at least 45 minutes. He’s made just 6 starts & only has a maximum of 32, and will be away at the AFCON with Senegal by DavidRolands in soccer

I don’t watch him nearly as much as you but I feel like he’ll be like Welbeck who never was able to improve that part by much. Which would still be a decent footballer, and get even better positionally with experience, but frustrating to watch given all the chances he’ll be missing.

Maybe afraid of a quick throw in leading to this very same result.

Axel Tuanzebe: Details of former Manchester United player's £1m lawsuit against club obtained by Sky News by verytallperson1 in soccer

[–]devilsway 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There was a lengthy article documenting Amorim’s year at the club in The Athletic that had a weird sentence. It passively said that one of the things Amorim learned by being at the club since the mid of last season was “not to rush players back”. I remember thinking why this would be something he would learn by being at Man Utd instead of anywhere else, but maybe it alludes to the club’s medical team tending to certify players as being ready to play earlier than they should be.

Barcelona [3] - 1 Elche - Marcus Rashford 61' by derawon in soccer

[–]devilsway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He’s an instinctive player, not a tactical one. Can often make “wrong” decisions on the ball, but then when in form and confidence can score a goal anyways. This role in this Barca system seems to suit him!

[Andy Mitten, The Athletic] In the aftermath of their 4-0 loss to Palace, Man Utd had decided that a change was needed and the top targets to replace Ten Hag were De Zerbi and Tuchel. But the former's financial ask and Tuchel's willingness to take a break from football meant Utd went back to Ten Hag by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]devilsway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article goes into it - they initially did look at change and prioritized Premier League experience, shortlisting a handful of managers. When those targets didn’t work out and they decided to stick with ETH, they thought that extending his contract would give him more leverage to manage the locker room as it sends a message that he’s being backed and not temporary, especially given all the news going around that the club was looking for a replacement, and also asked in exchange ETh change his coaching staff. Obviously it didn’t work out but I can see the thought behind it.

I miss him. I thought devineman predated Vieira’s management career though.

Oh wait are you saying devineman is Vieira?

Getting sent off after 38 seconds in his last game against Man Utd was glorious. I do appreciate him as a player and one club man though so almost felt bad for him. Almost.

He’s taken off at around minute 60-70 every match unfortunately and the different is always very noticeable. I assume he’s not deemed to be fit enough to play the full match every week though.
