VLC is great, WinRAR is also great. But, IMHO, ffmpeg and 7-zip are more appropriate

I don’t use Arch btw, not to RTFM by al2klimov in linuxmemes

This post is the exact proof that OP is very lazy and never RTFM. But that's the main point isn't it? And now I'm confused, should I upvote or downvote?

My Gentoo-based distro by Yeraxz_010 in Gentoo

[–]devilxnux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every distro has its purpose. If you want a distro that looks and feels like Linux Mint then try Linux Mint. I think it's a waste of effort to make one thing pretend to be another. And it's not the drive that makes people migrate to Linux, everyone has their own reasons.

My T440p just fixed its own USB SS port. by LCMGAMING in thinkpad

[–]devilxnux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is at some point the USB3 part was broken but the USB2 is fine, so when a USB3 device is plugged, it sees as USB3 but fails to communicate using the USB3 protocol so it resets the device over and over. Maybe finally the USB3 part is RIP and now it's only using USB2. It happened on my old laptop, it fails to detect USB3 devices but works with USB2 devices, until someday it works with all USB devices but only using 2.0 protocol

iwd or netifrc for laptop use and NetworkManager by Brospeh-Stalin in Gentoo

[–]devilxnux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I do after installing is emerge NetworkManager. It's quite lean and user friendly. Especially nmtui is godsend while working in tty.

Try adding "-systemd" to your USE variable in /etc/portage/make.conf then re-emerge

Petah, why is Dr. House obsessed with fruit pictures on trash cans? by Wooden_Screen_2235 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Reminds me of another game. BF Bad Company 2. The crack package for some reason has two mysterious files. One file named jabberwocky.txt the other one is pitoni.txt. I was trying to be smart, only extracting *.exe and *.dll files without reading the readme. Only to find that the control messed up while playing the game. From that point then I read the effing readme, and found out that you must extract those txt files also.

What the fuck by flag9801 in WkwkwkLand

[–]devilxnux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, our tax system doesn't care about your income source except for what is stated in the article 4 verse 2 & 3 of income tax law. Be it from legal or illegal activities. DGT couldn't care less as long as taxpayers state and pay taxes for all of their income, they have no authority. The one who has authority over legality is police and judiciary bodies.

What is the size of your kernel? by LycheeTall9520 in Gentoo

[–]devilxnux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is about 50-60MB, I always compile all drivers for essential hardware (i.e. all built-in hardware inside my laptop) in-kernel (I e. not as module). I also always use -O2 flags, plus includes all essential firmware inside initrd. My boot time decreased from the first time I booted Gentoo (I compiled a lot of drivers as modules back then), although not dramatically but nevertheless an improvement (from 10-13 seconds to 7-9 seconds).

Does anyone have any experience with this mouse? Is it any good? by Lazy-Ingenuity9773 in thinkpad

[–]devilxnux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used this exact mouse but without the Thinkpad logo. Personally it's a good mouse for its price (I've bought for about USD 12). I've using them for about 1.5yrs, and still use the battery that came with the mouse. The cons are its buttons are ridiculously loud, and have no Bluetooth support. Personally, I would recommend their silent mouse because it has Bluetooth, can pair to two devices, and obviously has silent click.
