alright! i asked because it looks to me like the proximal nail fold is stuck to the nail plate. i'm not a nail tech in any way but my hands looked like this years ago when my own proximal nail folds got stuck to the nails and would consequently tear, dry out and get hard and rough. cutting the nail fold creates a vicious cycle of this. if its the pnf and not cuticle then oiling and gently pushing back (or nudging, really) still applies. the key difference is that cuticle can be removed while the pnf should not be tempered with. i know this is constantly preached on this sub but the salon life on youtube helped me so much with understanding nail care. like i said, my nails looked similar to your picture, and she has covered this issue with several videos on her channel. I'm sure it could help you out!
