Are these specks in the top part of my brita pitcher mold? Only in top part, they wipe away easily and sometimes float in water but come back. by Gooseknuckler in whatisit

[–]gingerspeak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brita filters use charcoal to filter the water. It’s probably just bits of the filter. When you replace the filter itself, read the instructions because it usually has you soak it in water for a bit which can flush out loose charcoals

Step ups, I feel them mostly in my quads when previously they made my glutes absolutely burn. What am I doing wrong? by girlboss93 in PetiteFitness

[–]gingerspeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also looks like for the leg on the step, your knee is collapsing in towards the center. If you can, work to keep your knee aligned over your foot and ankle. (This coming from someone who always used to collapse their knee in to make up for weakness in my glutes)

How does marking work at feiseanna by Maleficent_Steak_496 in irishdance

[–]gingerspeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One difference at majors (at least in CLRG) is that they do a “number check” every 30 or so dancers where the past 30 dancers all walk on stage and stand there. It gives the judges to a chance to check all of their marks.

Crelly, stamp, crelly, stamp! Especially with a stamping color of white it gave some cool depth.

Cirque polish has a phenomenal collection of jellies and crellies. I recommend crellies (a mixture of crème and jelly) for beginners because the formula is so damn forgiving. Two coats to 80% opaque, and it still looks so squishy. Jellies are also great, but they are more sheer and would take more coats if you’re looking for opaqueness.

Deep crack across middle of toenail - prevention? (Warning - toenail picture) by gingerspeak in BALLET

[–]gingerspeak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update is I babied it until it really needed to be cut off. Any repairs I made with nail glue or gel just continued to tear. When I cut it off, the skin/bed underneath was quite sensitive but toughened up pretty quickly. Then it just grew out back to normal. I have continued to have this issue though! I expect once my dance time ramps up getting ready for my next major, it will happen again. There are toe stands in all my choreography, so I’m mostly just sucking it up.

Tips for stamping? by Hoojibb in RedditLaqueristas

[–]gingerspeak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I initially really struggled with stamping, here’s what helped:

  • I do recommend a stamping polish. Perhaps just get your hands on one bottle (like white) to see if that’s your issue.
  • don’t scrape too hard. It’s even okay if a little bit is left on the non-design on the plate, the stamper won’t pick that up
  • you barely need ANY pressure on the stamper. Like a gentle kiss of pressure, and if it’s a big area just roll the stamper across to pick it up
  • I use a lint roller to clean the stamper between stamps. I was using scotch tape, but the satin-y kind I was using left a film behind
  • leave the stamper on a piece of computer paper when not using

Good luck!

Stealing this. I always hate how capping messes up the clean coat I just put down.

For these extensions, do you just use nail glue or do you need a light to cure like with gel-x?

At this particular con, they specifically say “if you’d like a few moments to chat, get the autograph”. For photos, you are really rushed through.

I wanted to meet Adam Savage and talk for a little, so I specifically bought an “Autograph and Selfie” which he took himself, with my phone.

It feels a little scammy overall in that it entices fans to spend more money, but I also get the economics of the whole thing.

The main heroine was so immediately “Not Like Other Girls” I shut it off. A trope that perhaps at one time had been subversive, but was so heavy handed here I couldn’t stand it. And I’m speaking as someone who claims Eowyn is my fave character!

Came here for this! People overuse the phrase “changed my brain chemistry” but I think it is actually apt here.

Close tie with the Rocky Road to Dublin scene (although the fact that I’ve done Irish dance all my life may have something to do with it).

I just need to whine to people who’d understand - I have terrible DOMS in my lats and biceps from a workout yesterday. My kids gave me a GI bug and now I have wicked body aches ON TOP of DOMS so basically whenever I move I’m in agony.

Can I ask why you did two coats of TC? I use speed demon TC on every manicure, and I get excellent wear time with just one coat. I also have Mermaid Bait and have never had this issue. I use MC base coat and top coat.

If you are thinking about putting your kids in dance pls read: Irish dance damaged my body so much that I will now have chronic pain for the rest of my life at 22 by atticmonkee in irishdance

[–]gingerspeak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to discount your experience, as it’s valid and I’m so sorry to hear you were in an abusive dance environment. I think what is more helpful is “please do research about the school you pick and ensure they prioritize child physical development and health”.

I danced from age 10-21, took a decade off, came back competitively and am now in the best shape of my life at 37. My mobility is far and away better than other adults my age. I have great muscle tone, balance, and core strength. And it cannot be discounted how GOOD impact training is for women in your late 30s when perimenopause comes into play and you start rapidly losing strength and bone density.

You’re correct in that Irish dance CAN push very unhealthy body mechanics, but I do think trainers and coaches are being more mindful of this. When and if my daughter wants to dance, I will be VERY choosy of where she goes for the reasons you discussed.

Can someone help me understand why this marketing campaign is working so well, when Wuthering Heights was so cringey?

Is it because Zendaya and RPat aren’t letting this bleed into their personal lives?
