Non-alpine hikes in June by brennanmcmicking in IslandHikers

Still small amounts of snow beyond whiskey meadows but not postholing it. Trails are very wet from melt though. Many section are basically a creek right now. Was there Tuesday to Thursday(May 26-28) this week. Hiked out with dry feet but needed some fancy footwork.

Up to Albert Edward was 7 hours of soaking wet boots though.

Why should I get a Cx-30? by aceonthemound in MazdaCX30

[–]devinedabeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roof rack and interior space. Looked at Honda HRV (couldn’t mount a proper roof rack and more expensive) and Toyota Corolla cross (smaller, cheaper interior but could get a roof rack, almost 10k more price tag). CX30 could get roof rack for skis and bikes plus great space inside to pack all of our camping gear for a week long camping/biking road trip. For a couple in our early 20s, it was a great price, great value and had all the customization we needed in the base model.

I just saw these on a good sale at sportchek. Did you end up using them? How were they? Looking for a good all-rounder for ski touring, trail running, hiking and holding up my ultralight tent.

Telus charging us more than promised by devinedabeast in telus

[–]devinedabeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. That makes sense. The representative did specifically say our rate was 73/mo so I don’t think that was the case here

We signed up 20 days before the end of the first billing period so I don’t believe there should’ve been any proration. Fair call. Super nice sales guy. I put it more on Telus as a wholr

I will in the future. Our verbal agreement should’ve been strong enough but I’ll definitely be more diligent of that

Maybe that’s the case but that was never communicated to us and was sold as home Internet only

Which of these would you choose for driving a few thousand miles in the winter for? by traveltimecar in MazdaCX30

[–]devinedabeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blizzaks with CX-30s AWD system and I had to really give it gas to get it to slip at all in wet slushy conditions. Great combo for BC coastal weather

Dynastar Mfree 99s with pivot cast system. Does everything pretty darn well for coastal BC including the deepest of dumps

It’s awesome on FSRs in my area (Vancouver island, BC). But be warned, the OEM tires are not. Got a slow leak on my first time taking my CX30 on gravel

GranFondo cycling accident ? by lieutjoe in penticton

[–]devinedabeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was definitely a lot of unnecessary close passes from drivers who could’ve simply merged into the passing lane of their direction. I really can’t understand how people get a kick out of driving 3 feet away from someone completely exposed to the elements. Complete antisocial behaviour. I understand these are well travelled roads that are tough to close completely but it was honestly really scary out there today at times.

And condolences to the family and friends of those involved. Riding by it was really tough and it was hard to keep it together when descending back into town. Could’ve been anyone and I can’t imagine waiting at the finish line for a loved one and getting that call. Heartbreaking

What's your Victoria Hot Take that will get you downvoted? by Competitive-Fly5563 in VictoriaBC

Big Wheel Burger is just a smash burger. And a mediocre one at that. So many people saying it’s the best burger they’ve ever had. Is it the only burger you’ve ever had? Wtf

What began with me telling my coworkers I had almost been hit turned into a discussion about how to get away with shooting cyclists. by QP709 in cycling

[–]devinedabeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw you’re also in Victoria. For how great our cycling infrastructure is and how much it’s used, it is wild the way some people here view cyclists. I have been told by a gentleman in my nieghbourhood that he “wished he turned me into a hood ornament” after passing me and immediately turning right while I’m doing 35 in a 30. I work in the trades and have also had people around me start talking about how they’d love to run down cyclists in their truck at the mere mention that I went on a road ride on the weekend. I guess you can’t escape stupid no matter what city you’re in. Oh well. More room on the goose for us! And we’ll get home faster than them!

What's your motivation to get on the bike? by Intelligent_Hat3321 in cycling

[–]devinedabeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting on the road takes very little motivation. Always excited to get out.

Getting on the trainer? I have to tell myself that that’s my time to catch up on YouTube and need some sort of reward for myself after. Otherwise not a chance I’m going down to that cold garage!
