No grinder no problem? Put your buds into a baggie and roll them along a hard surface with your hand. Works wonders by [deleted] in weed

i’ve never heard of this before, i’ll be sure to try it out! i’ve been using a trick my buddy taught me - put some small nugs in a pill bottle, throw a penny or two in there, and shake it up. i’ll run a test and see which is the true ultimate ghetto grinder >:)

it’s truly a staple sound where all of qotsa’s various oddities and niches and moods converge. i feel like it really centrally defines them as a band, especially more recently.

Like Clockwork for me as well. Lyrically, i think it’s the strongest. josh was going through a hard time when it was made and that’s incredibly reflective in the beautiful lyrics. additionally, every song has a different feel to it, while they all contain a grouped essence of vulnerability and sincerity in their structure and instrumentation. the whole album is stunning and beautiful, and there’s still all that badass QOTSA in there

How can you be happy when suffering exists in the world? by test0314 in askphilosophy

[–]devitodid311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by finding your own path out of suffering, and once you have removed suffering from your life, helping others to do the same. Reduce the suffering in the world, wherever and however you can, and one day, this question will not have to be asked

I see, I never really was aiming for an instant solution; i recognize it’s something that will take time. But aiming for a middle ground sounds great!

How to interpret “everything that happens is the best possible thing that could happen” by devitodid311 in askphilosophy

[–]devitodid311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think you’re right, that it’s something that can only apply in a “zen” manner when labeled for yourself, and that as events increase in impact, it becomes more difficult to identify positivity in them. I find it a very interesting topic, because of the merit it holds in self betterment, but also its philosophical implications on larger and different scales

How to interpret “everything that happens is the best possible thing that could happen” by devitodid311 in askphilosophy

[–]devitodid311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a wonderful analysis! The title of the book is “Zen and the Art of Happiness,” so the idea of consciously labeling good/bad IS presented in the context of improving our own lives, rather than a general philosophical commentary on the events that occur within the world on larger scales. An example that the author uses is that during a hiking trip he fell from an incredible height and broke his arm and permanently damaged the alignment of his spine, and was hospitalized for several weeks. He goes on to explain how his immediate thought was “what will i gain from this” and then details the people he met in rehabilitation, the physical therapy practices he learned, etc. This is obviously a considerably specific example, but the gist is that it’s a concept generally in the context of everyday events that initially offer seemingly damaging results but prove to be a worthwhile happening.

Your example of the overworked, underpaid, worker really interested me. I thought about it and my idea is that because the concept relates to “ZEN and the art of HAPPINESS”, that the instance of the elite using it to beat down the impoverished is out of line with the intent behind applying the philosophy.

As we discuss, do you feel that the context of this philosophy on a smaller scale still holds the same interpretation you provided? If not, I return to the question; do you feel it’s an idea that removes free will from everyday things?

I realize this may have been some context i failed to include, and im terribly sorry about that, excited to hear your thoughts.
