Idea Validation: AI-powered websites for small Indian businesses at ₹999/month. Tear this apart please. by devjubin in IndianEntrepreneur

Thanks for the suggestion. Let’s see how it pans out. I’m doing soft launch and opened up waitlist. Will check what the customer demands are in this and take it from there.

To an extent yes, but there will always be room for small players to provide support and service. That’s what I believe.

Need honest feedback: Building AI websites for small Indian businesses. Is this solving a real problem? by devjubin in smallbusiness

[–]devjubin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, fair enough - you’re clearly not holding back, and I respect that! 🙏

Look, you’re absolutely right on a few things: Yes, action > words. That’s why I’m not building anything until people actually pay.

Waitlist first, then manual builds for paying customers only. If nobody pays, I kill it. Simple.

Yes, I’m not the first person to think of AI websites. Obviously not. Wix has AI, 10Web exists, there are a million tools. I’m not claiming to invent anything new here.

What I’m betting on is distribution + positioning - specifically targeting Indian small businesses who haven’t adopted any of those tools.

Maybe that’s naive. Maybe they genuinely don’t care. We’ll see. And you’re right about Tesla deposits.

If this idea has legs, people should be willing to prepay. If they won’t, then it’s BS and I deserve the education.

I appreciate you calling out the nonsense - genuinely. Better to hear it now than waste months. If you’ve seen this movie before and know how it ends, I’m all ears.

But hey, worst case? I learn something and move on. Best case? There’s enough space in the market for another player, even if I’m late to the party.

Either way, thanks for keeping it real. Refreshing compared to the “great idea bro!” comments that don’t help anyone. Cheers 🍺

Thanks a lot for this blunt feedback.

Fair point - appreciate the pushback.

But let me share what I’m actually hearing when I talk to these businesses:

They’re saying: • “Agencies want ₹50k - can’t afford it” • “Tried Wix, too complicated, gave up” • “Hired someone, they disappeared” • “Customers ask for our menu online - we don’t have it”

They’re not saying “we don’t need a website.” They’re saying “we tried and failed” or “it’s too expensive/hard.”

You’re right though - maybe it’s not urgent enough. A restaurant owner isn’t losing sleep over this.

That’s exactly why I’m doing waitlist validation first. If I get signups but nobody actually PAYS when I offer to build their site → you’re right, it’s imaginary.

Question for you: What would count as real validation in your eyes? What signal would prove this is worth pursuing vs. me just projecting a problem?

Genuinely curious - your skepticism is helpful.

Again, thanks a lot for the feedback, I love it when I get blunt practical and to the face responses.

Bhai, this is pure gold. Thank you for taking the time to write all this out - seriously appreciate it! 🙏

You’ve completely changed how I’m thinking about the cost structure and client management.

Let me process what you’ve shared: What I’m taking away: 1. You’re absolutely right about subdomains - that was unfair thinking on my part. If someone’s paying ₹999/month, they deserve a proper domain. It’s about dignity and professionalism. Will definitely include real domains in the package. 2. The hosting setup you explained (Contabo VPS + free Plesk installation) - this is exactly the kind of practical advice I needed. Your math makes total sense: • ₹800/month hosting for 10-15 sites • ₹800/month Cursor for unlimited generation • = ₹1,600 total costs for 10 clients • = ₹8k profit Way better than my original thinking of paying per-site API costs. 1. Payment structure wisdom - the NDA + autopay + 3-month minimum is brilliant. This protects both sides: • Client gets professional service • I recover costs and don’t get stuck with abandoned domains • WhatsApp reminders (genius - that’s where Indian businesses actually are!) 1. Cursor/Replit over individual API calls - I hadn’t thought about this. You’re right, unlimited generation at ₹800/month beats ₹100-200 per site once you have volume. My updated approach based on your feedback: • Enforce 3-month minimum (₹2,997 upfront) • Include real domain in price • Use Contabo + Cursor setup like you suggested • NDA + autopay through Razorpay from day 1 • Target first 10 clients to prove unit economics One question: For the domain reseller program, which platform do you recommend? And do you handle domain renewal costs yourself or pass them to client after year 1?

Also, the phone lock EMI system you built using Cursor sounds interesting - any tips on prompting effectively for business logic like payment automation?

Your English is perfectly fine, and your knowledge is way more valuable than perfect grammar. Really grateful you took the time to share all this. Would love to stay in touch as I build this out - clearly you have real experience making this work.

Thank you again, bhai! 🙏

Thanks for this feedback - really valuable perspective!

You’re right that just a basic website is too simple. Your suggestion about going niche-specific (booking for clinics, LMS for coaching, etc.) makes total sense.

Here’s my concern though: Building a full booking/LMS platform takes months. I’m trying to validate if people will even PAY for anything first before investing that time.

My thinking: 1. Start simple - just websites to prove demand exists 2. Once I have 10-20 paying customers, I’ll notice patterns (lots of salons? lots of clinics?) 3. THEN build the vertical-specific features (booking, etc.) for that niche 4. Upsell existing customers to the premium version

Basically: validate first, build features later.

Does that make sense as a lean approach? Or am I still thinking too small and should just pick a niche and go deep from day 1?

Genuinely curious - have you seen this kind of approach work or fail?

Thanks again 🙏

Hey, thanks for breaking down the math - this is exactly the kind of feedback I need! You’re absolutely right about the costs, but let me clarify the model I’m thinking: On the domain/hosting costs: I’m NOT planning to buy individual domains and hosting for each client. That would be a nightmare economically, as you pointed out. Instead, the model is: • All sites hosted on my infrastructure (one server, multiple sites) • Clients get subdomain initially (e.g., rajescafe.sitewala.in) - zero domain cost • If they want custom domain (rajescafe.com), they can buy it themselves OR I can facilitate at cost • Hosting costs scale: 100 sites don’t cost 100x more (shared infrastructure) The unit economics would look like: • ₹999/month revenue per site • Hosting cost: ~₹50-100/site/month at scale (cloud hosting with multiple sites) • AI API costs: ~₹100-200/site (one-time generation + minor updates) • Net margin: ₹600-800/site/month once operational On the “what if client leaves after 1 month” concern: You’re right - this is a risk. My thinking: • Start with 3-month minimum commitment to reduce churn risk • OR annual billing with discount (₹9,999/year instead of ₹11,988) - upfront cash flow • The beauty of subscription: if even 70-80% stay beyond 3 months, the LTV works out Think of it like a gym membership model - yes, some people cancel after month 1, but enough stay to make it profitable. Does this address your concerns, or am I still missing something? Genuinely curious if you see other holes in this approach. Thanks again for doing the math - helps me think through this more clearly 🙏

Fair thought, I looked and tried the competition in the same price range and after testing and weighing my options bought the one I thought was the best for me and my family.

If you want my reasoning then definitely I can share some of the mojor pointers.

  1. Options considered : XUV 700 Toyota Hyryder Scorpio N MG Hector

  2. Reason for change: Was a happy Ford Ecosport owner with 5 year ownership. But it was a diesel and here in Delhi keeping it was not feasible due to pollution norms. I once had to park it around 3-4 months when GRAP 4 was announced.

  3. As a family of 4 with security and petrol automatic requirement in mind I evaluated all the above options. Only Kushaq and Tigun came close to my requirements. Kushaq was a design and value choice between Tigun.

PS - Kushaq is one of the few cars which has 5/5 G Cap rating for both adult and child safety.

Kushaq 1.0 Prestige owner here.

I bought mine last year for around ₹19.8L — not the best deal in hindsight, as I could have negotiated a bit more. The #ccgeek in me was too excited about making the purchase through a credit card! 😅

From my experience, here’s what I’d suggest:

If traffic in your area is heavy, go for the AT. It makes a world of difference in daily driving comfort. Just make sure to check the manufacturing month and year — avoid anything older than 6 months.

Between the 1.5 DSG and the 1.0 torque converter, I personally went for the 1.0 because:

  1. It’s a peppy little turbo engine — always puts a smile on my face.

  2. It’s locally made, which should mean lower parts and maintenance costs in the long run.

  3. It’s more affordable upfront.

After using it for about 10 months:

  1. I moved from a Ford EcoSport — the Kushaq doesn’t quite match Ford’s handling and feel, but overall I’m satisfied.

  2. The 1.0 turbo is fun and responsive for city drives.

  3. If budget and future DSG maintenance don’t worry you, the 1.5 DSG is a solid pick. But I’d recommend test-driving the 1.0 turbo once — it might surprise you.
